Just discovered your channel after watching your Canal Boat Diaries. Loving these videos where you can be cheekier than on the BBC. Great humour, chilled vibes and loving your original music too, from chilled guitar to electronic stuff. Great late night viewing when nicely toasted :) Keep up the good work!
Fab! Great sense of place from a boaters eye. Always been a bit discouraged from going north cos of all the 'wrong un' stories... But you're changing my mind.
Hi, I've been watching a lot of TH-cam videos on narrow boats, and I have to say I like your videos the best. I've watched about 20 of your vids so far, and look forward to the rest thank you.
Great video !! Both the Canal and the City ...neat to see what there is to do around the Canal and in the city!! ......and your music choices fit the pace of what your up to Thank You!!
Ah cheers Jon! Yes it's weird isn't it! There's also a bunch of forms, regulations and other navigational info to wade through - will give you a brief look at the wedge of stuff they send you to read on the next vlog 8^)
Thanks for showing me a place I'd never have seen without your help ! Liverpool looks properly Beatleish as well. Glad you didn't wrap your narrow boat around the submerged car , I was worried about that. Looking forward to the next Vid !
Robbie Cumming I see you put an extra O in Liverpool. In case one got nicked ??? ( I'm allowed he he ..was born there in 1950...now living in the Aussie tropics...great to watch your winter vids while slow roasting. You have a better Scouse accent than me these days.
Did you miss the submerged car by accident? Did you see it coming to avoid it? (blimey!). You clean up good ;-) WRONG'UNS!!! (love it). You're mum is a sport for being on camera. Another stellar video, my man - Cheers!
Ah thanks +Stuart Cowen yeah mum is a shy artist type but she really loved being in Liverpool. The submerged car... man, I nearly hit it, honestly ut was hard to see untul the very last moment!
Robbie - Greetings from Canada, eh! Loved your Liverpool video! Several years ago my wife & I chartered a narrowboat in Preston Brook and we traveled on it to Nantwich and back. Before we started the narrowboat trip we did a landlubbers tour of Liverpool & saw many of the sights you have in your video. Cheers & please keep on vlogging! Wally
yo robbie after watching u on TH-cam I went a brought a boat I got a Norman 27 not as big as urs but I've been on it for 4 weeks now best thing I've ever done good TH-cam videos robbie top man
Revisiting all your vlogs to check out all your 'cranking it' on the northern waterways. Not sure if I missed your mention of The Swan when I first watched but my god...I noticed it this time! I used to LIVE in The Swan when I lived in Liverpool (well...over the water in Birkenhead) and I had some immense nights in that pub when in the summer people would all be sat on the street outside because it was packed inside. Got to agree that the jukebox in there is killer! Bogs leave a lot to be desired...or they certainly did in my day...1988-1990. Happy days!
The "Love Locks" are left by young couples hoping to lend permanence to their relationships -- you might notice names or initials on the locks. Thought to be inspired by an Italian book Ho Voglia Di Te and a 2007 film adaptation of the same name.
Sadly, you’ll never visit us because there aren’t any canals near Grimsby. However, you could go up the Trent, out into the Humber and moor at Grimsby docks. There’s a challenge for you.
looks good in Liverpool, looks like you will be in my neck of the woods (Birmingham) love the network in Brum & it's handy knowing where not to park up the boats :)
love it round hear, might even meet up on the cut one day and get cut together in some of the great pubs round hear. Enjoy the videos so keep em cumming....lol
Shame you didn't go further on to Liverpool mariner - but maybe they were full -its much quieter there with a decent club house and facilities etc - nice video -thank you for sharing.
good video really enjoying your take on places I am familiar with (Manchester and Liverpool) looking forward to the Lancaster canal as I used to live in Lancaster so I know that area to haha.
Thank you! Hopefully I can get to Lancaster, but we'll see. It's going to be another race against time as they shut the River Ribble crossing on the 4th October though so might only just make it to Garstang!
Heard in a previous vid you like your Belgian beers, get your hands on some Gouden Carolus Classic if you like the dark ones (brewed in my home town of Mechelen). We also have a nice canal here (Mechelen - Leuven), built by the Leuven brewers in the 1750s to get their products shipped passed Mechelen without having to pay taxes...just an idea if you're one of those adventurers that goes cross-Channel with their boat. Cheers mate!
If you're heading further up the Leeds-Liverpool when you get back from Lancaster, let me know if you fancy a hand going up Johnson's Hillock - I ride my bike down the canal and I've helped a few boats up there.
If you visit again, when the pubs are back open, try out the Baltic Fleet, it's not far from Albert Dock (a bit further south) the building is styled a little like a boat and they brew their own beer. There's a large number of very fine boozers here but I think you're probably correct that the Swan is really the only dedicated place for rock music. Maybe also try the Ship + Mitre on Dale Street (not far from the Walker) for an enormous selection of beers from all over the world.
Great channel! I am an American who full Times in a 32’ fifth wheel trailer, so in many respects our lives are similar. I find the videos on narrow boats fascinating because I can explore the many similarities and the differences in our lifestyles. Maybe some day I’ll see if I can arrange a swap. Go to the U.K. for a month on a narrowboat in trade for a month in America in a fifth wheel.
Hey Joe thanks so much - and sounds like a great idea! Unfortunately I don’t know any boaters who would want to make that swap! Once you’re on the water there’s no going back I guess! Well, that and I certainly don’t know any boat owners that have a truck licence!! 8^)
Love watching all your videos! You are most entertaining, animated & just a really fun guy! Someday soon when I get to the UK. maybe I'll bet a chance to meet you on the cut! Cheers Mate!

Hi m8,, I'm living in Hebden Bridge on Rochdale canal,, Gonna buy a sail away soon and do it up inside myself.. Where do you get that canal book I saw, with made and places to stay and all?? Thanks dude,, if your ever in HB drop me a line, I'll buy you a pint...
Hi Davy mate will do, thanks! Yes the book I bought online - it's called the Nicholsons Waterways guide. You can buy it in marinas too. Great news with the sailaway hope it turns out alright and you can get out there cruisin as soon as poss. 8^)
Not sure... I don't think I've found any spots with free shoreline power - could be wrong but I know I didn't use it in Liverpool. Inexpensive to buy card from CRT though. Have a chat with the Wigan office they'll help you 8^)

Scratching out finely tuned phrases for a living is an honorable job. I've been doing it for 15 years in Washington, DC for business associations. But I don't have the enviable narrowboat lifestyle; I have to live it vicariously through those who do. Love the Pub of the Week, mate! Cheers.
LIKE THE VIDEO OF LIVERPOOL AS I AM A SCOUSER AND ME AND MY WIFE OWN A NARROW BOAT AND IT MIGHT SOUND DAFT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO DO THE TRIP TO THE ALBERT DOCK JUST TO SAY WE DONE IT WE ARE MOORED AT TATERN HALL MARINA
+Kevin Roberts Cheers, yes I should think for you It's an absolute must so go for it! Maybe for next year though as I think they close it early October for winter.
The CRTrust should tax fuel same as the highways in order to maintain the system and make permanent moorings as cheap as possible and free wherever possible because moored boats are for shelter, which is a human need while transport is not, plus fuel tax encourages conservation of fossil fuels. So collect revenues from the luxuries involved, travel, rather than the human need involved, that being a place to sleep.
Being a scouser I can safely say I would never boat in my city, it's full of scruffy orrible twats, leave yer boat for a couple of hrs it will be burgled.

Ha ha I try! Yes that car was a close one... I didn't even see it until I was going past!

Great video. What is it with all the padlocks? I noticed that they are starting to appear on the railings of Corralejo harbour here in Fuerteventura.
The "Love Locks" are left by young couples hoping to lend permanence to their relationships -- you might notice names or initials on the locks. Thought to be inspired by an Italian book Ho Voglia Di Te and a 2007 film adaptation of the same name.
Thanks for explaining it. I thought it must be some fad copied by the gullible. Good for the padlock manufacturers I imagine.

If you continue on under a few more bridges you come to Coburg & Brunswick dock. This is a lot quieter and it's where Liverpool marina is located.
Interesting. Thanks Jonathan I shall seek that out for next time.

Yeah you got it. I'm from the south though so if you were from the north you would probably say 'scallies' or something else!
I just subscribed out of respect for your mother!
You seem to offer a look at the real-world experience of cruising on canals. Thanks for not glossing over anything...I hope.
your very welcome too funny.
Sounds like the good old days of Liverpool dockers. They don’t give a F##k.
Did those Wrong Ons throw rocks at the gate keeper ?
Yep!
Who scrubs up well?
what is it with you and pubs called the swan
when you moored in liverpool is everything free for a week....like free shore power
Not sure... I don't think I've found any spots with free shoreline power - could be wrong but I know I didn't use it in Liverpool. Inexpensive to buy card from CRT though. Have a chat with the Wigan office they'll help you 8^)
