  • Shes building boost! Kinda...
In this video we tear back into the E90 335i with the N54.
Were still chasing down this boost pressure issue. I finally got some solid pulls and she absolutely rips! I dont know if we need those turbos after all.
    I hope you all enjoy!

I see you got the vacuum canisters great! That charge pipe will go out on ya. That's one thing you can buy cheaper on ebay. But don't buy the one with the two outlets for the Blow off valves get the one with the fake Tial blow off Valve included with it. Should be able to get one for around $150. The boost pressure is a 30FF which is a BOOST LEAK. Or Vacuum leak. But it's almost always a boost leak. So something somewhere is not keeping pressure in the system when you're on it harder. Maybe the charge pipe is cracked but you can't see it like around the "T-Map sensor" at the back of the pipe. There could be an "O" ring or something. Oh and did you move the "O" ring from the old fuel pressure sensor to the new one?? You Must do that. Once the car has all the maintenance done that was ignored for many years (As happens with so many of them because people drive and use them like they're a corolla instead of a luxury sport car) it will be a blast! Plugs are a huge deal on these cars and you're right to get that new set! coils are number two. I'm LOVIN your N54 adventure! I know it's frustrating at this point but you'll get there! When you do. Man it will be so fun when you're ready to do the new turbos and build. I think you should do more on line reading or video searching about this stuff as it's what helps me big time. Try the "Zero to 60" channel! Andrew from that channel has been my role model for my build. I'm running quite the cheap (CHEAP?? lol) N54 build with my 2008 335XI. I've basically built the exact car Andrew built when he had the "17T Turbo build car" Which is what I think your new turbos might be. It should say on them what they are. All the best and looking forward to the next videos!! That fuel system problem is hard to know. I don't think it's your High pressure Fuel Pump HPFP and the LPFP seems to be working so check if you moved the "O" ring from the old sensor onto the new one. BTW you don't actually NEED that adapter. But it should work with it. On and iSTA is great until it isn't. The info in there is old and often doesn't cover a lot of the fixes needed. That's why I said you should do some on line research instead.

N54/N55 (N53 too but only EU market) are notoriously complicated. The HPFP is known to go, easy way to diagnose with INPA. From your problems of fuel codes when demanding max power it could be this.
Observe the pressure on idle, it should hold 200 000 hpa. If you rev to redline, check if it drops below 180 000hpa, most likely HPFP. Take it for a drive and monitor what it does when building boost, it should be quite obvious if the HPFP is dying. BMW dealers are told not to replace LPFP but only HPFP during the recall era.
These value are N53 specific but shouldn't be too far off as the cars share HPFP and injectors (index 11 vs 12 respectively)
When I had my 135 and 335 I had a misfire that turned out to be plugs but coils can also go on these. I replaced the charge pipe for a solid metal one on both as they crack.
Lastly when you park the car overnight, pull the plugs next morning, if you smell fuel then you most likely have a leaky injector in that cylinder which will cause a misfire too. You can check for the adaption values in INPA too. When your reset the adaptations it takes around 50 miles or so to learn. It should be obvious if one or two injectors are out of range.

FCPEuro has that new warehouse in Arizona and it makes getting parts in California so much faster now. I have a hard time going to O'Reilly's or whatever now that I can get OE parts in 3-5 days

Hey Alec, great video, keep on keeping on!! We are all holding our breath for this car 😊
I wanted to update you on my BMW E90 with the N52B25. Not sure if you remember, I told you last time that the car was burning a crazy amount of oil, like 1 quart in less than 200 miles. The dealer I bought it from negotiated with me a deal to replace the pistons with the new design pistons. The car is now absolutely cherry. I've driven almost 1000 miles and no oil consumption at all. Really happy with it. I've already done the classic power steering fluid flush on it. Next in line are transmission and diff fluid flushed, and a new radio, because I can't live without at least bluetooth 🤣
    Cheers brother!!

Heck yes! I freakin love FCP Euro for the beamahs 😂 It might be a stretch, and I am sure ya’ll probably know better than me buuuuuuut, I am ight 😂 have you checked the O2 sensors. They love to create mixture, misfire, and power issues. Just throwing it out there as a possible box check. Keep rockin Alec. LOVE the porch build as well. It came out super nice!

Might be the hpfp ? mine was starting fine but as soon as i accelerated it went check engine light. Another distinctive hpfp fault was a metallic ticking sound coming from it when check engine light went on. Open the hood when check engine light comes on and listen for weird metallic ticking

(A bit unsure, hard to tell from the video) The coils on your N54 looks like the old pencil-style and aftermarket, known for being very unreliable and struggle to keep up when horsepower increases, especially on twin turbo N54. The OE pencil's were made by Bosch and used on most BMWs from 03-'10. They had very high failure rate. BMW then switched to Delphi and they are very good and reliable. Significant upgrade. Seems to be able to keep up with high horsepower up to around 600 hp and lasts around 100k miles.
The absolute best coil to get now is from Eldor. And it was introduced in 2015 and is the current OEM coil used in most BMWs and Rolls' and seems to be able to keep up with well over 800 hp.
I highly recommend upgrading those coils.
The HPFP on these cars are notorious for failing and cracking charge pipes fails left and right.

    6:36. not sure about backpressure.
But one sure thing is this valve on the left exhaust is closed during cold start so the cat and Lambda are getting to operational temperature quicker.
Over time, this flap get some wear and rattle as we can listen.
Or sometimes it just get corroded and don't turn anymore (like mine). I left it open and plugged the vaccum line.

I’ve worked on a few n-series engines and those spark plugs are mechanically a one time use plug because of the length of the ceramic portion being fragile and creating exhaust leaks even if they aren’t visibly damaged. A sign of this is dark rings around the base of the plug or grossly deformed/burned coil pack boots

Take a look at the EKP module (fuel pressure regulator) behind rear passenger seat bolster purple/ grey module two 10mm bolts. Open casing re install and leave open with ac full blast. These have a tendency to go out when it heats up. But will work till it gets hot again .Sometime the heat sync fails. Use pc fan wired to keep cool till able to replace. Also take a look at the battery distribution block fuseable(under red cover over battery ) links...then also go out similar too EKP. Check for continuity on both sides of fusable links

  • @PartiBuoy
    @PartiBuoy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Oil pan do not tighten those new bolts too tight if you don't have a tool get them flush with the surface, they will still feel untight, but they will feel untight when they have stretched already and are to spec

I happen to have done allot of adaptation resets in E90's, and I am curious if you actualy did it correctly? It has been a little while but I believe you need INPA next to you with all the adaptation functions and start with the flywheel adaptation, there is a whole guide online on it and it is very important to get it right. In the video it seems you start ripping on it instantly, so you might want to go back, delete them all again and set it up propperly. If you dont do it right the fuel consumtion might get out of hand when you switch to city driving, which can lead to pre-mature failure of parts

I have a pretty heavily modified 08 335. Every part of my fuel system was new (spool performance stage 2 bucketless lpfp, new fuel pressure regulator, update low pressure fuel sensor, new hpfp, spool helix overdrive, motive flex fuel kit, new index 12 injectors, EoS BMP4 upgraded EKP module), and when checking codes i would still get the fuel pump plausibility code every now and then. It never threw a light on it's on and the car never ran bad. Not sure what the deal is.

    Hi alec,
Loved to see some new stuff from the N54 Lady.
Missfires are often from the Injectors of that model.
The n54 is known for the old problematic inhectors...
There was an callback from bmw back then when they got Sold. Maybe this one got new injectors if not maybe have an eye on em. If they are not vaporizing the fuel good enough then the Mixture fault could be the reason.
The e9x 335i n54 are well known for their high preassure fuel pump and the injectors.
The high preassure fuel pump is not the problem i think because otherwise he would take longer time to start the Motor up.
An indicator for the HPFP is a long taking cold start..
That charge pipe is very poor in these e9x models like friguy4444 mentioned before.
If u find one used on eBay or something get an aluminum one.
Mine blew up 1 year ago and it is a joke what bmw wants to charge for that poor charge pipe..
Spark plugs and the ignition coils should be good ones otherwise these bmw Motors are acting like divas 😅
    Ideally the Stock ones
I think it must me the bosch spark plugs and the Delphi ignition coils but i am not 100% sure about that.
Hey at least she did a few good pulls 🙂 it is something 😅
Keep up that good work man 💪
See ya on your next day off 👊✌️
