Rolling Stones did amazing cover of this song on their newest album Hackney diamonds (2023). Both versions are so damn good. By the way, this song gave inspiration to make the band's name out of this song.

It is freezing cold, the winter of 1962. The scene - a dingy flat in Edith Walk, Chelsea, London. A young man called Brian Jones is telephoned by a night club agent and offered a spot for his fledgling blues band. He accepts, then he is asked what the band is called, have you got a name? He hasn't. He starts to panic. This is a golden opportunity for him and his starving flatmates. Desperately, he looks around for inspiration, spots a Muddy Waters LP on the floor and quickly stammers out a name from the featured tracks. The song is 'Rollin' Stone'. The rest is history...........

stones suck: your entire business model revolved around exploitation: that of classic blues, and brian jones. The Americans had already surpassed what you'd be doing 20 years before you would even play a single show. That isn't to even say that the blues couldn't be improved as tom waits and beefheart would do just that: and as a plus they didn't do it for the sole purpose of a quick buck. Brian Jones was the only member of "your" band with any musical talent any fan of the stones is just a Jones fan at heart: you cant get what you want, sympathy for the devil or any other "good song" only appears that way because of Brian. So what did the stones do to repay him Kieth richards the trashy sonofabitch stole his girlfriend then kicked him out of the band: the band that he'd founded, hired the members for, and named. shitty band for shitty people just listened to the band from which they have stolen.

Muddy did not die broke. He was doing well in his later years touring around. He wasn't crazy rich like the Stones, but he had a good life. His death made the national news. He was famous enough that you had to be an invited guest to go to the funeral. I know this as my father was one of his good friends. Much of the general public doesn't know him, but they know his music. It has often been used in commercials and movies in recent years.

In Keith Richards autobiography he tells it: They rang up to get a gig and the guy on the telephone asked what they were called. The call was costing money and they just saw a 'Best of Muddy Waters' Record lying on the ground. The first track was 'Rollin Stone'.

    • @AtomicLobotomy
      @AtomicLobotomy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

bigman25plus25 Keith Richards still did not know who Muddy Waters was at the time. Jagger and Richards learned everything they knew about blues and rhythm and blues from Brian Jones and Brian Jones' vast record collection (that Jagger and Richards in some interview here on TH-cam make fun of). Brian Jones was finding the gigs and he gave the club owner the name Rolling Stones. Keith Richards was still an apprentice at the time. If Keith Richards said "we" in his book, he's got his history wrong, and, as usual, not giving Brian Jones his rightful due. Stones were created by Brian Jones (he recruited Richards and Jagger) and it was his vision of what the band should be that made the Stones into the great band that they became.

    Well, I wish I was a catfish,
Swimmin in a oh, deep, blue sea
I would have all you good lookin women,
    Fishin, fishin after me
    Sure 'nough, a-after me
    Sure 'nough, a-after me
Oh 'nough, oh 'nough, sure 'nough
I went to my baby's house,
And I sit down oh, on her steps
She said, "C'mon in now, Muddy
You know, my husband just now left
Sure 'nough, he just now left
Sure 'nough, he just now left
Oh Lord, oh well, oh well
Well, my mother told my father,
Just before hmmm, I was born,
    "I got a boy child's comin',
Gonna be, he gonna be a rollin' stone,
Sure 'nough, he's a rollin' stone
Sure 'nough, he's a rollin' stone"
    Oh well he's a, oh well he's a, oh well he's a
Well, I feel, yes I feel,
Feel that I could lay down oh, time ain't long
I'm gonna catch the first thing smokin',
Back, back down the road I'm goin'
Back down the road I'm goin'
Back down the road I'm goin'
Sure 'nough back, sure 'nough back
