I impulse bought a 65" TCL 6 series for $400ish at Best Buy right before covid hit. I'm so glad I made that purchase, because TV prices went crazy after that. And it's still going fine thousands of hours later.

I bought a $250 75” tv for my patio about 3 years ago, still solid and great picture quality (4k QLED), but I would never buy that one for my home theater setup, can’t compare with a 75” OLED 4k TV. But still, those cheaper TV’s are great.

I bought a Hisense 55” TV in 2019 Black Friday for $250 (the cheapest at that time for 55”) and it still works. Picture quality not bad either for a basic LCD TV. With all that said, I did just upgrade to a Bravia 7…and I’m wondering if that was necessary. Oh well, it is a nice TV.

The deals that you should skip are the off brands that you typically see a 75" 4K LED TV at around $500CAD. I remember a few Black Fridays ago Walmart stores in my area had a TV for that price. I wasn't able to get shopping on the Friday and went shopping the next day and there was literally 4-5 different people walking into Walmart either to get their money back or get an exchange that very TV.

@84jdgregory Yes and no. I have every intention of keeping this phone for at least five years. And it's not that the performance won't be good enough after that. It just probably won't get anymore security/software updates at that point. I paid a lot for a (at the top) very high quality laptop 11 years ago. It still works perfectly fine today. A bargain bin laptop from the same period would almost certainly not.
Regardless of that, stuff like this, in my opinion is like the toy you get in a kid's fast food meal. Fine for the moment, but quickly forgotten about or replaced as soon as you can get anything better.

@ so for most people. Like 99.9% of people…a phone is more wasteful than a TV. I don’t know anybody upgrading TV’s every few years. And when I upgrade because of a jump in quality, I typically just sell my old one for super cheap so it gets more use.
Everything eventually breaks. TV’s are usually good for 5+ years.

@@84jdgregory It's like your purposefully not listening to my argument, or have misconstrued it. Of course phones become e-waste and more often than other devices. It's world's different for countless reasons, than a TV. Which is what this discussion was about. The displays that were being talked about in part of this video for an unbelievable sales price, are what I would consider below entry level. I've worked retail. We'd RMA a ton of these. I recently bought an LG43" 4k for $250.00 at BB for the bedroom because my wife is a political junkie (while I could care less about watching ad nauseam) and she was using the plasma tv almost 12+ hours a day. Did my research for about a full week and pulled the plug on the LG. The first time I watched it was a 4K college game and I think I just stared at the pic for 10 minutes. However, I would not have purchased it for my HT system but it is just fine for the bedroom. So thanks again for another timely video.

I picked up the 55 inch Sansui Oled from microcenter for $760 with the 3 year extended warranty that covers screen damage and burn in. Running the Goggle 4k streamer and my Samsung Q symphony soundbar. It is probably the perfect combo for so cheap. Oled quality is so good, it beats out my Samsung Q80r I bought back in 2019 and I love that tv. Definitely a tv to consider with that warranty protection and the feature set it has. People say that 500 nitts HDR is not that bright but in a dark and light controlled room like my bedroom, it was so bright it started hurting my eyes.

Don’t buy the cheap Black Friday tv. I did that once and regretted it. I brought a 58inch Onn tv for $200 back in 2019. It was worse than the tv it was replacing that I brought in 2012! It was not bright at all and I could barely hear it. I was so happy when I upgraded to a Sony X90L earlier this year.

    • @jaguarxta
      @jaguarxta 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Good example.
Although nowadays. Audio from TV speakers is not a big thing. Since Soundbars is a norm these days.
Although the TV audio preamp should not be garbage. That would suck if the sound was still awful when using a decent soundbar all because of the TV's audio preamp is garbage.
Still. Not bright at all and low image quality are what I (the tenant) noticed when I saw my landlord's new Samsung 75" Crystal UHD CU7000 TV vs to my two year old Samsung 65" Neo QLED QN90B TV. All I can do is quietly smile. Knowing that I made the right purchases couple of years ago. As well as thankful I did not make the same purchase mistake as my landlord did.

    • @lawyerdhop

@@jaguarxtaI agree with you that audio was not a big thing but I this Onn TV sound was terrible! We routinely had the volume on 90/100.
As far as brightness. It was an LED tv and we could not watch it during the day!
I can definitely understand what you mean about seeing the lower tear Samsung LED versus the OLED. Even though my S90L is just a Qled, I still notice a difference when I watch a traditional led tv at a family member’s house.

No Local dimming. Which also means no Full Array Local Dimming either.
      4K 60Hz (meaning not 4K 120Hz).
      Has around 300-nit peak brightness
Not so bright for a bright room like sunlit room.
Not a QLED aka Mini LED.
      Decent quality for the price.

We just need to know what we are getting into with x model that we are getting.
Just not at the level that is acceptable for Digital Trends recommendations.

PPL do NOT undstand that Motion issue often is Placebo. IN Advertising. Marketing, we were trained in business school to HEAVILY focus on --psychology. YES it might be 5% “better “ in a way that U will NEVER even NOTICE in motion. BUT Significanlly WORSE that YOUR eyes/brain will Totally NOTICE.
OUR Brain 🧠r HIGHLY Biased, it Elevates or Demotes REALITY thru our own Biased. For example, ppl do Blind test of Coke/Pepsi. Its NOT new trick, its being used as old age marketing. All Health/ food industry use that to EXAGERATE the health benefit. When we see image we have to -PROCESS, if all image is NOT processed IN TIME, brain 🧠 tilter them OUT as --NOISE ANYWAY.
So when image is TOO flat (low in Color Volume) its 2D. When image is TOO Dim (WOLED like C3 C4 ..) Brain also filter them out (especailly Moving) like as if we see them are in mild shadow under roof / under tree. 🌴 that if brain do NOT have time to process DIM IMAGE, or Flat Image, our brain 🧠 just SHRED them like NOISE. Its on Constant basis --painless.
Bright day Parkting lot bright but LOW color. Or Cloudy ☁️ day Dim, or at back of building in shadow dim ( entry level WOLED). For things are moving around or busy image, our brain 🧠 LOSE significant data.
So those images when we see the --Highlight, even if it has 5-10% better motion, we LOSE a LOT of data. For alot of images it will look flat.

The majority of these "Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Boxing Day, are made to a specific low price point. They are cheap and usually come with a 90 day parts/30 day labour warranty. However the retailer will gladly sell you an extended warranty where they make more profit than on the TV. And many retail chains have them made to their specifications. And many of these TVs are sold with different model numbers by different retailers. Model XZY123, XYZ123A, XYZ123B are all the same however different model numbers means no price matching. This has been going on for a long time. Some models are only sold for these sales events. The retailer/manufacturer can put any MSRP they want on them, making the deals look bigger. Same goes for a lot of the clothing; those $100 sweaters on for $20 and in reality just $20 sweaters sold only for these big sales.

The Hisense has better contrast with local dimming enabled, but the TCL has better blooming and lighting zone transition performance. The TCL is also a bit brighter in HDR, but the Hisense is much more accurate in HDR and SDR. The Hisense also has much better reflection handling, making it the far better choice when watching content in bright rooms, with the two TVs being more or less evenly matched in darker rooms.

My friend was a rep years back with a major company. He said the TVs on Black Friday deals that are sold just for the sale isn't expected to last a full year. He said the same thing to avoid them. Now if the TV is carried in several types of stores, it's somewhat different as long as it was sold before the big sale.

Well duh. That's so the consumer can buy a new TV once next Black Friday rolls in.

Hello, think you should discuss different warranties of all the brands you review. Heard and saw some videos that Hisense makes TVs unrepairable if a problem comes up. Eg, they use double sided tape on the layers on the back so you cannot repair, even from a tv repairman. So, these TVs are affordable but now have second thoughts regarding longevity.

Meanwhile my cheap old ass vizio and Sylvania refuse to die. The picture quality isn't much but they work just like the first day. That said, my wife just bought me the Hisense U8 65inch for Christmas ❤. I had been looking at it since August

The Sharp I bought from Best Buy 9½ years ago is still fine. Only a snob would complain it doesn't have eARC. Well, the Polk MagniFi One bar+sub connected to it didn't utilize such tech at the time so it was of no bother to me. Still served me well enough. Just weeks ago I retired that and plugged in a Samsung Q850 7.1.2 speaker setup via ARC and it's better than ever. Yes, Sharp still makes TVs. I don't need a Samsung one to "talk" with the hookups because HDMI CEC is a thing. When the 4K player is turned on so is the TV which then wakes up the sound system. Turn off the TV and everything else goes night-night.
It was bought as a returned item, a common occurrence for old people. They decide to finally toss out the old Zenith CRTV and replace it with something modern, knowing nothing about today's techno mumbo jumbo. For some reason they'll opt for a 55", get it home, then realize it's way too big for their liking despite the fact it was _right there on display_ on the sales floor when shopping. So a return is filed and the price is marked down. With their poor judgment aside, do yourselves a favor and measure before buying. No need to over/underestimate the unit to place in the living space in conjunction with the distance people plan to sit from said TV.

I think u did well :) NO one is Impulsive buying U8N. Since Hisense/ TCL are being Judged on constant basis. Anyone buys Hisense U8N do Significant research 🎉actually LEAST impulsive. I honestly think this whole Hisense U8 series buying or BLUNTLY refuse to even check it out. Really shines on ppl’s personality too. Like we all skeptical, n there just have ppl have ENOUGH openness to seek truth taking calculated risk vs. Ppl BLINDLY throw themselves into Tribalism n buy SONY/ LG for comfort/ sake of buying what they preferred brand. I think ppl buy U8 are NOT going for cheap, they like WHAT U8 Look like, the price comes Afterwards. I would pay for 2X price for U8 i dont care, i just like the look of it.

You TAKE all the fun out of impulse buying , I'm running out to buy that 65in ONN tv for 228 dollars from Walmart ,before I realize what I did .Hell it might even out last that 3200 Samsung 4K TV that took a shit after 2 years I had . Remember (The Quality goes in before the name goes on )ad . Think Quality took the back seat for the last ten years or so.
