  • I have been working more with Adobe Lightroom on the iPad as I prep an ebook release of my Autumn West Virginia trip. In this video, I do a high-level overview of just how far Lightroom has come on the iPad and how I use it in my workflow. I am finding it very convenient to use Lightroom on an iPad for my initial editing of a landscape photography image.
I am planning on doing some more editing-focused videos as winter approaches. What landscape photography editing content would you like to see? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for this video! I’ve been thinking about this recently. It is something I’d love to be able to do while traveling. One of my hold-ups is I wish iPad had some sort of Star stacking app for Milky Way noise reduction. If I could do that on the iPad too, I’d seriously consider switching over my travel editing completely to iPad.

Yeah - the iPad for editing isn't completely there yet, it has been nice for on the go editing to at least get image started. I haven't tackled (or even looked into) features like exposure blending, focus stacking, etc yet on the iPad.
I have been trying to only take the iPad for travel whenever I can. I even have a backup system while on the road built around it. It has been nice to only have the iPad along instead of bringing a laptop or something. Still some limitations (or things I haven't adapted my workflow to), but its getting there!

Good tutorial! I’m curious how big your iPad hard drive? Sounds like you have to have Adobe Cloud, not Classic? Also how do you transfer your photos to the iPad. Sorry for all the questions Jeffrey 😊 TIA

Thank you! I have an iPad Pro with 512MB of storage. When I bought it, it was partially to be able to make photo backups to an SSD when I am on the road (so I wanted the USB-C port of the iPad Pro at the time to connect USB-C devices).
I have the photography subscription plan, so I use Lightroom Classic on my main laptop and then the subscription also gives me full access to Lightroom on the iPad (though it feels more like the cloud version than the Classic we're all so used to!).
I have two ways I primarily use to get files to the iPad. If I know I want some photos to edit on the road, I use a collection that I setup on the laptop that syncs to the cloud. That gives me easy access from Lightroom on the iPad (or even my phone).
If I am traveling and want to edit a photo I took on the trip, I can import a file (or files) from the camera card via a USB-C reader. Connect the reader with the card and Lightroom on the iPad can see the card and then import the file.
Hope that helps! And to be fair, I am still more comfortable editing in LR Classic on the laptop, but slowly getting better at doing it on the iPad. Especially for "fast" edits.

@@JeffreyTadlockPhotography Thanks so much Jeffrey for taking the time to answer! Sounds like a great way to travel. I'm looking into doing this.

Jeff, do you need a Lightroom subscription for the IPAD and the computer (2 subscriptions)?

You don't need two subscriptions. I would probably mess up the description of the differences/options, but this page at Adobe should help:

@@JeffreyTadlockPhotography thanks! Have you used or tested other editing software? Is Lightroom good for a beginner photographer? Thanks again!

I think Lightroom is a good choice. I still use Lightroom for the majority of my editing. The other nice thing is there are a lot of tutorials (website articles, YT videos, etc) so if you get stuck, it is usually fairly easy to find a resource to help.
