another great fusion Friday. p.s. I started listening to the POD cast. I really enjoy it. So John; don't let the trolls get you down. You do amazing work. Most of what I have learned is because of you. Keep it up. You are making the world a better place by making everyone more educated.

This video just saved a job for me. Thank you so much John!!

Great video! I was curious how to achieve big chamfers with out needing customs tools or a very rigid machine. Now I want to try it, just for fun. Thanks John

I always enjoy these type videos as I learn some but also am forced to think differently, looking at this job I automatically think of it as a lathe job followed up by milling the holes, starting with square stock on the mill never crossed my mind.

John, I was the one on the fusion 360 website that posted the Zhi problem. Do me a favor and try this. In your operation (not setup) choose the body for the model. See if that fixes the issue. It was so long ago my memory may be failing me.

The random capitals are because it uses 'camel case', one of a few standards when programming: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel_case
So there is some method to the madness, might save a few seconds looking them up

Sort of funny to see the SolidCam ads running before the Fusion360 videos.

Hi what if we had a tool that is able to machine the cone which are up-side-down, fusion won't automatically generate the correct tool path.

So, why would you not just use this tool and interpolate a hole using the OD from the bottom part of the chamfer tool? It would carry the shape all the way down to the final dimension, plus less headache trying to find how to do it this way? Or am I going about it the wrong way?

If it looks good in both sim modes and if you go into wireframe and do the sim and you cant find the crash, it's not there a reboot clears it as well, this bug comes up a lot

This is what mill/drills excel at.

Reviewing this video because I'm about to link to it. It looks like the "X axis" selection is missing or has been lost in the setup dialog. (Visible at 7:06 .)

I've had bugs like that in cam ... and making a new setup fixes it. Or just copying the operation , delete the bad op and repaste it back in some times fixes it...

The bore with the chamfer tool won't work, the bore op generates an helical path, which is fine if you start outside the part, but here you won't machine the whole diameter of the largest end of the conical section.

I have a question kind of unrelated but I am making a welding positioner and I dont need to show the actual lathe chuck I am using but is there a way to import it just for the visual?

Why not use a chamfer drill that has spiral flutes instead of a chamfer

I've been getting a lot of bugs lately. The biggest of all was that when I start fusion and open a file, most geometry selections are ignored. Reported it to tech support and they say it's a bug to be worked out. Hoping they get to it soon. It's making fusion hard to work with. It also prevents me from using the Select Similar Holes option in drilling ops. Bad combination of bugs with this week's product (500+ holes, 128 geometries)

So I learned that if your chamfer mill is larger in diameter than the through hole on the bore, a boring operation won't actually work. Using the height offset just results in an empty toolpath, without the empty toolpath error, oddly and infuriatingly enough.
I ended up having to use a 2D contour, then in the chamfer settings in the passes tab, manually adjusting the chamfer tip offset to the point where it was barely no longer blowing away the shoulder, then increasing chamfer width so that it actually cuts the chamfer properly. Lots of eyeballing it in simulation before noticing that just the tip offset wasn't cutting the part right. There is apparently no difference between an increased width just barely large enough to cut properly, in my case 0.060 and 0.120 but cut exactly the same.
Paradoxically the tip offset moves the tool closer to the center of the bore, and the chamfer width brings the cutter down to actually touch the modeled chamfer surface.

Case sensitive and and it has a capital letter in the middle of it? Honestly, wtf?? G-Code is All Caps. So may as well make anything in software All Caps as well.

gredangeo it's JavaScript... and a standard for naming variables called camelCase....

    • @andydix6243
      @andydix6243 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

gredangeo G code isn't really meant to be "human readable" so having it in all upper case doesn't really matter that much. If you've ever written any programming code then you'd soon find that all upper case is tough to read. For example, THISISPRETTYDIFFICULTTOREAD whereas ThisIsEasierToRead.

This is a wheel spacer for a car/truck. Did I guess right? (only watched the first few seconds so far)

If it is I would highly suggest that John stray away from making it because making ANYTHING that goes on somebody's vehicle is nothing but trouble. If it fails you are the one getting sued because you made it, doesn't matter if they did some janky shit after you were done, the original manufacturer is always to blame. Lawsuits for days and it's not worth it.

Looks like a wheel spacer, but like he said, he sounds like he is troubleshooting for another person. Still cool how he gets there.
And " User assumes all risk with use of product" might be the way around being sued
