    _______
    St. Isaac writes:
A man is not freed from the pleasure of sin's working until he truly abhors the cause of sin with his whole heart. This is the fiercest struggle, the struggle that withstands a man unto blood, wherein his free will is tested as to the unity of his love for the virtues.
On that day God will not judge us about psalmody, nor for the neglect of prayer, but because by abandoning them we have opened our door to the demons.
Beware of the freedom that precedes an evil slavery. Beware of the consolation that precedes warfare. Beware of the knowledge that is acquired before an encounter with temptations; but especially beware of the ardent love that is prior to the completion of repentance. If we are all sinners and no man is superior to [sin's] temptations, it is certainly true that no virtue is more pre-eminent than repentance. For a man can never complete the work of repentance. It is always suitable for every sinner and righteous man who wishes to gain salvation. There is no limit to perfection, for even the perfection of the perfect is truly without completion. And for this very reason repentance is bounded neither by periods of time nor by works until a man's death. Remember that every pleasure is followed by disgust and bitterness as inseparable companions.
The end of unseasonable freedom is absolute slavery.
Do not be frightened by the turbulence of your Adamitic body, fashioned to enjoy that delight (the knowledge of which surpasses the intellect of carnal man) when it will put on the heavenly Image, Who is the King of peace. Do not be troubled by the change and turbulence of nature, for the hardship caused by this quickly passes from the man who accepts it gladly. The passions are like dogs that are wont to spend their time before the butchers' shops; they run away at the sound of a man's voice, but if they are left unattended, they attack like great lions. Set every small desire at naught, that you may not ponder upon the vehemence of its burning. For patience shown for a short time with respect to small matters disperses the danger of great ones. It is impossible to overcome great evils, if you do not subdue the lesser.

I hate sin but my body loves it because it is seemingly pleasurable in the moment and addicting. Most Holy Theotokos save us.

For me it is not often even that pleasurable in itself, in the moment it is never as good as what the temptation deludes me into thinking it will be. This never changes and yet I struggle to remind myself of this truth every time.

So many great comments. God help us all! It is always a big let down indeed.
My Godfather once told me that I believed it was really the passions which have infected the soul which are to blame. The body is capable of pleasure indeed but the body too is actually suffering and wants God. Our Soul, through the misuse of Free Will, via the infectious passions and through succumbing to Temptation actually abuses herself AND the Body.
Remember when Christ said “If not these Children then these Stones themselves would Cry out”
The Creation Herself groans and cries out for the coming of the Lord. Indeed, humanity is the only creature (aside from the demons) that doesn’t ceaselessly worship God.
I thought this was an interesting perspective and actually helped me realize more that it is not my Bodies fault, but my Free Will is to blame. I am abusing both Soul and Body. The Passions are what Saint Paul refers to as the Flesh in His letters. The Sins of the Flesh are indeed the Passions. Forgive me if I am wrong, I believe I found this in the writings of the Fathers before.

@@Gesu_Re_dei_re Yes and that intercession can save us. So asking the Theotokos to save us is just what we need to do. The ultimate source of all salvation being God the Father is implied and understood. That does not dissolve the heavenly hierarchy like protestants think. Are you implying St Seraphim of Sarov was wrong when he prayed "Most holy Theotokos save me a sinner"?

The more often I pray the more I feel in moments of temptation I am in control and are making the decisions. This sobriety also makes me so much more aware of my guilt and fault alone in sinning. Still then, I have all the more awareness to repent and humiliate myself. God gives everyone the opportunity to become better in so many ways.

What I learned from listening this is when carnal desires and thoughts attack you should do alongside prayer is workout, like push ups, sit ups, or go for a walk. Or another thing lie down on the floor and pray.

How is it that a dog, finding the stinking corpse of some dead animal, will roll in it will unrestrained glee; and then, as if proud of his deed, runs back to his master and tries to spread his wretched odor to him. Yet, is this not our own beloved family pet and guardian? How Man's fall causes Rover such humiliation.

We will never completely overcome sin. Romans 7, Paul struggled then in the last verses he says, " Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ"..... How? Romans 5/6 By giving us HIS Righteousness! Thats is Grace, so now we are not condemned Romans 8, for we have Spiritual nature and sinful nature.....both our enmity against eachother! So set your mind on the Saviour.....renew your mind by what Christ has done for you..... And when you sin.... Thank God the work of the Cross is work of mercy and forgivness.

    Hebrews 3:13
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
    14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?

Just because the Fathers taught against Sin, doesn't mean the Church does not sin. Jealousy is a bitter foe, for example, that cannot discern the Good it likes to spoil.
