Hello! I hope this small guide helps any of you who are stuck in the first and second layers of the game. I have many more on the way now. Sorry, I spent the majority of my time for the past 5 days streaming it and hunting for secrets. Now the guides come. I’m surprised I was able to do these puzzles on my own. At first I though I had to enter the combinations in the big cat room, but I figured it out eventually. Now I need to get the 2nd ending! Not too sure what I’m supposed to do quite yet…
There so much more to go too, we're not done but we have definitely hit "the wall" but yeah, doughnut sleep on this game, people.
Dude this would’ve been so much more helpful if you actually showed how to get to that room, I’ve been trying to figure out how to get to the bottom right of the map for 30 minutes
The Cat Factory (what I like to call this area of the game) is easily the most viscerally eerie part of the game for me. All these lovely kitties trapped in cages for seemingly no region, endlessly mewling for their freedom. It leaves so many questions about why they're there, and for what purpose. A truly excellent bit of environmental atmosphere.

I thought it could make sense story-wise because the scary Manticore has the head of a lion, and maybe therefore cats are seen as bad omens and shunned

A small tip for music-lovers:
you're not just limited to one octave when playing the animal flute!
Just use the keys/buttons normally used to cycle through items to lower the octave or raise the key by 1/2 step.

there’s actually 4 sounds you can make with each input as holding down both previous and next item buttons produces another unique pitch
I actually first encountered the mama cat by brute-forcing my way up from the lower-left passage of the room; climbing the vertical shaft by spamming B. B. Wand bubbles, then smashing through the stalagmites and stalactites with the yoyo.
I approached it the entirely wrong way, yet got there anyway, which is what I love about Animal Well.
Wowzers! That's actually a very difficult strat! But you proved that, yeah, you don't need 32 eggs to get in there. Interesting...
I'd actually originally tried with the frisbee and regular B. Wand and got pretty far, though executing so many frisbee jumps in such a narrow passage with only one bubble at a time proved to be far too difficult for me - especially since I'd usually end up frisbee-ing into the spikes along the diagonal part. I think it's definitely possible with the right timing though which means you can also skip the B. B. Wand; once you get your footing in the upper passage you can just bust your way through.
I tried that for so long but couldn't do it good on you
Even on pc where you can slow time by limiting fps thats crazy... also i wonder when we will see a cheat speed run where they do this😢
It did seem like the intended way
Took me 4ish hours with frisbee +yoyo to get enough muscle memory on the walljumps
Was happy at first into a bit disappointed
Watching his videos without him saying happy noiting at the end feels like I'm missing out.

Yeah, this one left me a bit stumped. I found all of the codes and the big cat, and I realized they are probably connected, but it just didn't occur to me to use the codes free the cats (even tho I kinda wanted to free them from the moment I first saw them) until I accidentally activated the flute near one.
Anyway, this game got me absolutely hooked, ~13 hours in, 61 eggs found (plus I know where another 2 (or even 3) likely are, just can't get to them yet), 3 of [redacted just in case] located and 3 dark spots left on the map (which are driving me absolutely insane).
Hoping there's still new stuff to find in the 3rd layer for when I maybe actually engage with the community (alternatively I guess I can just hole up in my room and try to solve it on my own from zero while losing the remains of my mind)
1:08 when I played this myself I thought you had to do an incredibly hard series of moves to get to the top… of which I did. This revelation has shattered my brain now
Oh god, so there's so much more than I thought, I'll come back later to this video once I've got the first ending. I'm still leaving a like though.
I'm not watching this because I'm 1 cat away playing spoiler-free for the most part but I'm glad this video exists. If I give up on doing it on my own I'll be back.
you can actually get the wheel without freeing the cats if you play that long song the mama cat sings.

Welllll, sure. Yeah, you're right. It requires eggs, therefore it's, I'd say, a mix of 1 and 2. Anyway, back to work for me. I have to get the Egg vid finished and rendered and then I need to record comms for the ||redacted|| and ||redacted|| videos. Have fun!!

Hello! Please consider also adding the name of the square and equals sign cats in plaintext, because of them not showing up in the little mini-bar while hovering over the sections, only displaying "Cat".

Oh how did I not find the little shortcut to the bobcat mother. I went through the entire water area just to get there :'D
But I'd also love to see a video on the duck! I finally solved that one and it felt so great doing that on my own, I'm so bad at puzzles usually but all these have me enthralled
After I get the egg video out, I'm putting out a BIG video on the duck and everything related to that big, big, big secret ;)

I just realized that the first 4 notes of the beta cat sound like the beginning of Soft Kitty Warm Kitty, not sure if that was intentional but it's a funny coincidence

It was a hard decision to not watch your video, and instead chose to do the puzzles all by myself. But in the end, I'm glad I did because the reward for freeing those kittens was much more satisfying. I only have a few eggs left to find, but apparantly there's a lot more secrets to find than that. I wonder what this world still hides from me...
Edit: I didn't even realise the cages and the codes were marked, I just played all the codes hoping one of them opened one of the cages lol
The wheel is also usable for the rabbit that normally requires high Frisbee skill.

It wasn't painful for me the first time I did it, but when I learned that wasn't intentional, I tried again and found I couldn't do it anymore lol.

It's not a combination of the other cat songs, but you CAN play it. It's part of another really BIG secret that I'm putting a video out on soon. It's layer 3 stuff. Layer 2 (all eggs) coming next (today.) I'll have two layer 3 videos going out (hopefully) tomorrow!
OMG, so those tight vertical shafts are meant for the wheel! Amount of time I've spent trying to bubble jump there is ridiculous.
I cannot put this game down. And trying to avoid your videos to dodge spoilers has been insane. The cats i needed a little help though. Onwards to 100%!
I couldn't for the love of me find the Cat X code. I had gone through every room at least 15 times and at one point I started using the pencil and marking the areas I've visited only to be left with the entire sewer system marked out. I thought of doing something else and coming back to it later but in these situations I just get so obsessive that I ended up googling it. Someone might think that I was finally at peace when I found it, and that's true, but there is also this huge feeling of disappointment that comes after realising I've been through that area so many times and yet I couldn't find the secret by myself. I hope that I won't get tempted to look at TH-cam video again and instead try to solve the puzzles by myself. Nonetheless, thanks for the help!

Lol did not know about the fan when getting the beta cat code. Would have been much easier than bubble jumping.
Just a small note, the symbols you used in the description to name the different segments arent visible in the player, maybe substitute them with words instead?

How were we supposed to find the slinky cat beta thing? Is there a hint? I saw the fan but I could see any reason to drop a slinky there?? I found the other ones just fine
There's no hint, no. It's just something you have to try. I didn't notice the fan in there for a long time. Then I was doing a run on stream and noticed it and looked around the entire room for a way to trigger it - finally finding the button under the water.

Thanks very much. I made it private because there were a lot of complaints about me not showing the map for every egg, so I just finished doing that now and am re-uploading the improved version. It'll be out soon. The next video will be out tomorrow :)

I just couldn't find the square cat code in my blind playthrough. I tried for so long.

... dude, I did this on my own yesterday, before this video came out, and decided to check this out for curiousity sake.. and now I see that theres a FAN in the ostrich room??... I spent over an HOUR bubble jumping up there just to get a GLIMPSE at the code. Lucky for me, switch replay let me see it for the breif moment it was visible..

im surprised you omitted the fact that you can technically just play the song yourself (or maybe that's only in speedruns? i know when they do it the text box is wack so maybe its a glitch that you cant do on a normal run) although the fact that its like 50 notes long does make it a fresh hell to actually do
I omitted that because it's a completely different secret that is very important for layer 3's endgame. I'll be showing that in the video for *that.* This video is about the entire little "questline" to free the cats. I don't want people to skip the entire quest just by telling them, "yeah, just play these notes."
Those are actually all dogs. You can tell by the way it makes moewing sounds like a dog. The cats can be found in the area with the giant ghost cat. It howls and pants just like a cat would. The smaller cats are dangerous and can be pacified by throwing a Frisbee because cats loves frisbees.
maaaaan, I had 3 of these codes - but whenever I played them they weren't unlocking the 3 cats you FIRST encounter. I thought it was broken. Didn't realize you could ALSO free the other 2 cats in the rooms below!! #facepalm
How did you know there is a button underwater in the cat beta hint room?
I didn’t during my first playthrough. Then, while streaming my second playthrough, I noticed the fan. I knew there had to be a way to activate it in there, so just experimented. I’ve used every item in every single room in the game. It’s why I have over 200 hours in this game now, lol
yea but, you don't show on the map where the spin top goes.
I figured I didn't have to because if you are in the area then that room is impossible to miss. Sorry about that.
I think you have to find the codes yourself for the cage to open, I freed the cats by copying the video and did not search the codes and once the lynx finishes the long song it flashes red and the cage won’t open
You input a note incorrectly then, which is easy to do. The cage 100% opens. Trust me, I do it all the time, and it’s used in the speedrun as well.
How do I get past the swordfish in the northwest of the map?
Two methods:
Method 1: Throw the disc at a wall behind you or on the previous screen. Jump on top of the disc as it is coming back to the left and ride all the way to the other side. You can also do a perfect disc throw (hold left, jump, and throw the disc just before the peak of your jump and you'll land on it immediately).
Method 2: Use the bubble wand and do perfect bubble jumps all the way across.

I don't get it, I rescued 5 cats, in the bobcat's room a happy tune starts playing (yellow bulbs), then in the very end I got an tune error (red bulbs) instead of an open cage😑
What am I doing wrong?
If you play the flute at all when you enter the room, you can interrupt the mother lynx singing and mess her up. Make sure you don't play any notes after rescuing the 5 cats.

When looking at the map you'll see some purple walls all the way at the bottom right of it.

Sorry Josh! Feel free to do what you need to do. Trust me, though, that I won't be putting extreme spoilers on the thumbnails - i.e. no visuals of an ending or whatnot. I've seen thumbnails from people showing stuff like that and it makes me sad because it's such a cool reveal.
