Drained many a beer listening to the T-Birds, Doyle Bramhall, and SRV live back in the late 80s early 90s. That TX sound... often imitated, never duplicated
This show is a perfect example of what an absolute stone-cold killer Jimmie was in his prime. Obviously, Stevie got most of the accolades. But Jimmie’s playing here (and for a solid 15-year period) was the apex of the genre. When it came to timing and phrasing and articulation and sheer cool factor, he was matchless.
Saw these guys in Sydney when they supported Stevie Ray Vaughan in the mid 80s. Kim Wilson wore the same red suit. Great moment when both Vaughan brothers played "Pipeline" on the one guitar.
Are the absolute greatest band. I saw them several times within that month and I recorded one of the shows. I think I misplaced the tape the other sets and performances in nearly identical. Man I got to find that thing. I love this band. I'm in the mood to tear it up! LOL
Saw them live at the Venue about this time, absolutely amazing, they waz kicking it. Rubbed shoulders with Dr Michael Woods the famous historian in the pit. Big respect for him now, I have to admire his taste!
What year was this show? I saw them at the Venue in May of '81.... This seems like it was later than '81 though - I don't remember this guy playing bass...
Dingwalls is a brilliant venue, up close and personal. The atmosphere with these guys playing must have been bloody awesome. The 'Ain't Nothing But The Blues' bar is the same, tiny but what a place, what an atmosphere.
I was at Dingwalls too for that show! Johnny Winter the 1st night, Dave Edmunds on the 2nd night, the Thunderbirds on the 3rd night. Best 3 nights in a row of music ever!
@@kevinobrien9626 I would assume they recorded this in 85, which would've been when this concert was-- some of the arrangement may have been in development but the idea of writing a guitar solo is... weird. Lol That's not how that works.
The band has gone through 14 different line ups. And notice that there is very little rapport between Wilson and his bandmates on stage. That's always a sign of friction. If you can't get along with your bandmates, that's a recipe for failure. You don't have to be friends, but you do have to be able to work together towards a command goal.
Thos Robert I don't think you know what you are talking about. They have all played shows and sat in with each other since then. He trades these guys out to keep fresh, and then plays a shitload of side gigs with them aside from the TBirds.
He does know what he's talking about. He doesn't trade out guys to keep it "fresh". I've worked a lot of gigs with them as support, and most bands in later stages of their career, have some friction. But the TBirds, have a lot more than most. Well known within the industry. Yes, later on, they sit in with each other, etc, but that's usually a one-off. Theres a reason their level of popularity stopped at the level I did. Too much inner strife
@@bradstivers Thos is right, they did have a lot of friction within the band during their peak years 1985-1991. Jimmie left and never came back or ever played with Kim again, what's that tell you? They didn't get along. It's a shame what happened to that band, they were amazing in the 80's, no blues band was better. Now 30 years on and two of them are dead (both of their original bass players Keith Ferugson and Preston Hubbard) and Fran Cristina is retired from music. Jimmie is just a boring shell of his 80's self, and Kim is the only one keeping the T-birds flag flying, albeit very low.
Jimmy Lee Vaughan. Never one note more than needed, never one note less than required. ALWAYS perfect, ALWAYS in the grove, ALWAYS in the pocket.
Agreed. Like the Chris Spedding of blues.
And has always stayed true to the blues whilst ploughing his own furrow. Killer stuff.

It doesn't get any better than this. The original members. And they simply kick a-s.
The original bassist Keith Ferguson isn’t here and he was legendary.

Jimmie Vaughan at his best ladies and gentlemen!
love his rhythm n lead guitar playing. He doesn't over do it which makes it more of a song in my own opinion.
Awesome.
What a groove. Great act and very relaxed, too. This sort of contributions will last. To my son etc. 😎

Hey you guitar students. Learn from this, I have seen and heard them all and Jimmy is the Master.
TBirds in absolute prime here.
Saw them at Dingwalls, Camden after seeing Mickey Jupp at The Dublin Castle in 1981/2.
A very good night!
Glad I found this.. awesome! Thanks!

Fantastic, too bad JLV left when he did. He made that band great.
Just watching a re-run of Minder. The band was advertised on a poster. Strange but true!!!

thank you very much
Gooood music!
NO poncey guitar-changing crap..brilliant ...
TUFF ENUFF was not even commercially released yet. They hadn't figured out the guitar solo, even, or the high/low contrast in the chorus.
You can Jimmie was still trying to figure it out but eventually got it to become a hit
Hadn't figured the guitar solo?
Yes, that part of the song seems to be in development. The arrangement is not all the way there yet. You wonder what Dave Edmunds had to do with it.

I'm wondering why Kim didn't go much further in the music biz? He's incredibly talented plus he's been around almost as long as Cher !!!

CAMDEN DINGWALL NOVEMBER 1984 ? I confused Kim Wlson for Steve's brother ... for me Jimmy never great as Steve
Jimmie was every bit the blues player his brother was just different. Stevie absolutely idolized him. No Jimmie - no Stevie.
