Argentinian horror movies don’t give a fck about your feelings and I’m here for it. This movie was BRUTAL. Check out his other horror film “Aterrados” (Terrified). It’s damn good!
I don’t think is says specifically where When Evil Lurks takes place, but it’s assumed in Argentina (since the director is Argentinian). And Aterrados takes place in Buenos Aires.
@@icha6od I just realized this was a silly question considering how Native the neighbours (Uriel’s mother and brother) looked lol. I was just confused by the landscape, I’m so used to the South American settings being tropical.
There's people who say he tried to kill his son once by burning him or by asphyxia, that's why his wife calls him a killer. At the end of the movie there's smoke coming out of the chimney, so probably 'the evil' made him finish the job.
Hello guys, Argentinian here, just to clarify, It seems that in the translation they refer to him as "rotten" but I think this may not be the correct word. In Argentina, we call it the "embichado", which has no direct translation into English. A more accurate word could be "infested". It is common among cowkeepers who are very superstitious ppl.
I saw so shaken after the dog scene I had to stop the movie for a while and I am rarely even slightly bothered by horror stuff. This movie is SO brutal.
I watched the dog and rewinded to check why it's so bad? I've seen worse in Terrifier and the Saw films. I think Georgie's death in IT was way worse. Update: I saw the mum walking on the road scene... I found that a little too much. 😳
@@logic33594 because there's something different on the behavior of an animal and a beast, there's something different between a zombie eating a person and cannibalism. Something more explicit: if you've ever seen a real death, you can tell that even if the movie's death is basically gore, the real death is like... Completely different, even if it was just a shot in the heart or someone stabbed on the neck. For me, is like that. The dog scene is something that can happen, and even in that way, you don't need limbs all over the room or blood flying and I bet you will be way more terrified than when you watch "Hostel" or "Saw", or "Terrifier". In my case, less means more, that also happens with the scenes that aren't on the film (the son eating his mom and same with the nephew and the grandma).

I think the point was for Pedro to be an incompetent man. Not sure if the director intended this but it seems like a comment on the fact this is most likely the way most humans would react. Emotionally, ill prepared and not fully thought through leading to mistakes and ultimately our own destruction. Also saw someone say this could be seen as a prequel to the children of the corn. Or at least in the same universe and potentially and explanation of the demon from that’s film
@@wgjung1 The whole movie felt like a criticism of how our government (and people) handled the pandemic. This movie is so messed up, but I loved it! Man did I hate Pedro though, wanted him to die cause he pissed me off so bad. Also I can't lie, I did laugh for about 3 minutes when Pedro hit that little girl with his car door. 😂
@codybot5151 OK so I was still laughing about that door when he was slapping that little girl, but felt weird about it cause I wasn't funny, but I could not stop!
Agreed. I love that they just kind of drop the audience into a world where possession already exists (to the point where there's a government protocol for how to handle the situation)...but that's undermined by people not wanting to believe that it's happened in their neighborhoods and families trying to protect their loved ones by hiding them. It almost borders on criminal that this movie isn't more widely talked about.
Oof...This was a great horror movie, but man was I not ready for some of the things that happened...Glad you guys watched it. Now, go find some eye and brain bleach to get those images out of your head.
OMFG I love you guys for watching this and reacting. Genuinely one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. Also, and this is a side note here: TH-cam's ad timing is impeccable. I got a corn syrup ad emphasizing "a smooth texture in every bite" right after the scene where mama demon was noming Santino's brain like he was a bucket of popcorn she just bought.

I'm sorry but I've watched so many reactions from you guys and loved them. This reaction was a 2/10. So many moments of horrifying things it seems ya'll had no reaction to. I was holding my breath. My heart was racing. Even tho I don't have kids, that dog/kid scene was fucking horrific. I love ya'll but this reaction was disappointing. So many times I was caught off guard. It depends on what you're looking for. Is it gory like Terrifier? No, of course not. But that scene was so crazy to me because of the fact that it DOESN'T focus on the bloody craziness that's going on. The kid gets snatched out of frame in the immediate foreground....and instead of the camera following under the table, we stay with the argument happening in the background. And you realize that the daughter is getting mauled while no one in the house has even realized that it happened.
