      Yeah the driving skills of the truck were my immediate thoughts I own a v2 I’ve had it for about a week now and all I’ve done is lowered it and put 50w in all 4 shocks and it handles great I can even slide it around turns on pavement and it standing backflips like a dream on 4s I love it

  • @geodude3966
    @geodude3966 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    To be fair, nobody ever expected the Maxx to handle like a race truck. The front and rear suspension are identical, and it's really heavy for its size, it was designed with durability and parts support in mind. The wider arms and longer chassis does increase stability and prevents rollovers, which is what bashers care about.

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not its intended target audience, that's for sure! That said, you can make super durable monster trucks that handle well too (MT410, Notorious/Outcast), so I'm comparing it to other similarly sized trucks.

    Nice honest out of the box review Brother 🤗. Definitely looked all over the place with the steering 👀. I could feel your frustration as the truck veered off with the slightest bounce or provocation. Just had a similar first test on Sunday with zero tuning plus the ESC shutting off while landing jumps 😝. Just dropped in a Max8 and starting to tuning the shocks. Also swapped the stock reciever and TQi radio. No plans to buy a Traxxas link just to tune the blue turd 💩. Hopefully get her out of Tank brick status and handling somewhat better next run. The Sledgehammer tires are a big improvement atleast. 🍻😎💪👊👊

  • @Technetica
    @Technetica 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The heavy center diff fluid is going to drag the steering down quite a bit and you can loosen it up by lightening the locking in the center. When turning the front tires trace a longer path than the rear so it's going to try to push until you get into a full slide or 4 wheel drift which you seem to be noticing already. The diff tuning hasn't changed but the effect will be more exaggerated with a longer and wider truck which is why some people will note this handling 'worse'.
    As it stands it's really set up for bash and stunts, drop the center diff to 1-2M and that should open up the steering and give better flow through corners. The front and rear are lighter already and I'm not sure I'd change them because you could start bleeding a ton of power on accel but maybe a more open front could help too I think they're 60k.

  • @doubleaaaron
    @doubleaaaron 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I took my original maxx to a track several times and it wasn't worth a darn there, but bashing it's pretty good. I ended up putting the hot racing 17mm extentions on it and it got much better but not really at the track only bashing. I also tried the big rock at the same track just for fun and it's, as you know, longer and wider and it wasn't worth using there either, but when I jump dirt piles or just run around parking lots and jump ramps they are both fine. I almost bought the new maxx, but I figured why. Unless it flies a little flatter which idk if that's true. The only thing left is the bigger battery compartment, but other than that, I guess you never know till you try something new if it really works or not.

    I don't think the Maxx is meant for lapped dirt tracks. We have a local guy with a gorgeous dirt track, crawler course, and basher ramp area. I only use my Typhon on the dirt track and if it gets crowded enough, he'll ask the guys/gals with bashers (Doesn't matter which brand,) to the basher area because they're too unpredictable and they slam into short course trucks and buggies constantly when they're trying to race. That's just my opinion.

If it has the same steering servo and components as the first version I think it got sluggish feeling from the longer wheel base a shorter wheel base will be more twitchy and responsive. maybe try stiffer rear springs softer front ones it will get more steering response but to be honest the tires look like they don't grab to good like when you drive a rc that has crappy compound tires and it just slips around all over? I'm more into crawling than bashing, but I see a similar experience with rtr crawlers out of the box. A bit of tuning as you mentioned to help with the steering and suspension setup along with a bit more "driver mod" should get this truck to be a bit more compliant in the handling department. It's clear the engineers put most of their eggs in the "send it to the moon and survive" basket over much anything else though. Look forward to see what you do to improve the setup this time round.

      I have an E-REVO 2.0 with about $1,000 in Traxxas, RPM, and Hot Racing upgrades and a Kraton EXB 6S 1:8 with the RTR Spektrum electronics and no upgrades at all. The Kraton is a better vehicle from any angle I look at them. It’s 100x more durable, priced reasonably (especially on Black Friday :) ), fast and full of speed and acceleration, far more easily customized and overpowered if that’s what you desire (8S!!!), easier to work on, tires are better, electronics are far superior, there’s no dog bones falling out of the differential outdrive cups constantly or pillar balls forcing themselves through the hub retainers like the E-REVO 2.0, AND you can use damn near any type of battery type and size you so desire unlike the E-REVO 2.0s battery compartments specifically designed around Traxxas batteries so only thin long 3S packs can be used.
      Basically, if I could trade my E-REVO 2.0 (worth about $2,000 if someone were to build it themselves) for a new in box OutKast EXB 6S RTR (worth $700), I’d have an OutKast (since I already have the Kraton) even though I’d be on the losing end of the trade. Out of my 14 RC vehicles, all of which were purchased between June of 2021 to December 2021/now, I drive the E-REVO the least followed by the X-MAXX. Both are nearly always broke and waiting on parts.

    A race truggy is well suited for that kind of track, a basher truck is only good at sending it to a ramp no technical twisty track😂 maybe a kraton on 4s has more luck in that bmx track..

    Its like actually driving a drunk sailor!!! Mine handles so bad, i can’t even line it up half the time for a jump. The servo is slow and the servo saver is crazy weak. Im on the same page with you on the racing thing, i expect handling and performance for $600. The E-Revo 2.0 is a much better truck out of the box. Hell my old E-Maxx drives better.

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw your video -- I'm thinking it's the center diff not allowing it to put the power down very consistently. it's pretty much a locked diff. I usually swap out half the 20M for 7k which mixes down to about 200k.

  • @c05sporty
    @c05sporty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This truck is a disappointment from the get go. $600 for bitty stub axles not even 17mm!!… all plastic drive shafts, only 4s capable, y’all are fools for paying that lol but no judging if that’s what you like then so be it 🤷🏼‍♂️

    I never understood some of these reviews, the max v1 and v2 are bashers, they don't pretend to be anything else, so why would they be precise on a track? It's not a tekno or a mugen lol both versions are probably the toughest bashers on the market..I like most of your content don't take this personally, I just don't understand wanting something to handle better, turn sharper or be more precise thats not design to do so, either way bash on my friend!!

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don’t need to be precise, but the V1 steered soooo much better with like $10 worth of shock and diff fluids. No reason a truck can’t drive well out of the box, that’s just lazy on Traxxas’s part.

  • @Joercgarage
    @Joercgarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I do believe the steering suffers from the wide maxx I also think it’s a better basher with the wide maxx cause it’s lands better and traction rolls less with the wide kit on my v1 so I think that what most people are referring to as always thank you for keeping it real it’s a still a great truck..

    it is running around like a HOSS, and that my friend, is not a compliment to the truck. now that i think about it, i wonder how all of the wide arms and stuff from this v2 would make the HOSS run. the upgrades options for it have been rather dissappointing.

  • @TheflyingkiwiRC
    @TheflyingkiwiRC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Obviously you've been spoilt by the handling of the Arrmas you own bro. Certainly some mixed feelings about the Maxx V2. Here in NZ it's going to compete (price wise) with the V5 Kraton and Notorious and what I've seen so far is it is falling well short.

    "Out of the box" steering on almost all Traxxas vehicles sucks, primarily due to the servo. The 2075 (what's found on most) is slow, underpowered, and analog. In my personal experience, switching to a faster, more-powerful, digital servo resolves 95% of all Traxxas steering problems.

    • @GarageLifeRC

  • @airguns_rc
    @airguns_rc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Out of the box, it definitely isn’t track worthy. No desire to buy one. My E-Revo 2.0 blows that truck away. My XMAXX handles better. Definitely need to do some tuning on it. My XMAXX is bone stock, and my E-Revo 2.0 just has durability upgrades done to it. Curious to see what you can do to it.

    I don't understand why you and others are even testing the handling in a place that the truck was specifically designed NOT to be. Smh on this one. Seriously, The truck was never designed to run a straight line into a jump that's only 5 feet wide at speed. You'd be looking for a race vehicle at that point. Disappointing to see so many people agreeing. 🙄. Other people correct on here have stated that this is a basher and has no business on a racetrack. 100 correct. I have zero handling issues whatsoever. Maybe I just took the time to drive the truck properly. You're giving the review after a few minutes of driving it. Which is not really fair. After driving it for 3 or 4 months I could see giving an opinion. But not after a few minutes of trial. Anyone who follows your channel knows you do not like TSM and are probably not using it at all. I find if there are any issues whatsoever a smidge of TSM fixes everything. When used for it's intended purpose of bashing, hence no racetrack... It is the best vehicle in it's class in my opinion. So much more fun than any armor vehicle. And there is no replacing bent aluminum. I see a lot of people bashing Traxxas up here for the price. But the parts are far less expensive, far more durable than any armor parts, the parts are in every single hobby shop in America. In addition, which this is something everyone seems to leave out is that the customer service and the 7-day support is unmatched by any other company. When you can call them on a Sunday afternoon about a problem with your vehicle it's worth every penny that you pay. I really wish people would just test these vehicles in their intended environment and then give an opinion. If I take my Corvette out onto the dirt track I have no right to say it handles like crap. Difficult to put much merit into any review such as this one. Compare apples to apples please.

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uh, this is NOT a review. This is a first run video, it says that in the title and the thumbnail. If you've followed my channel at all, I always do an unboxing, a first run, some tuning, and then finally a full review after 1-2 months of driving in different locations.

    • @mezzyshredder
      @mezzyshredder 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RazorRCActually, it's always considered a review to others. I'm aware of your process which is exactly why I don't understand why you'd give an opinion so quickly. And why you wouldn't just bring it out into a field and bash it. It's your channel so you do and say what you feel. I'm just responding to what I saw. It's only an opinion. Not the end of the world.
