Poor people angry for reasons not explained? What? They're angry because they're poor, and because they're exploited by the rich.

This film was, "literally", too deep for you, and I'm not joking.
All this Metropolis thing since it's inception in early last century was symbolic. It has context and commentary, Tezuka's manga I'm 1949 also, and then this movie draws from both and reinterpret then with new commentary about today's (or yesterday) Japan. But it does so through context and symbolism. The vertical city turned horizontal by the end, the power of the Sun God, it's trone, the military seizing power, etc, etc.
OK, the film is not pure enjoyment and this is a valid criticism, but no, it's not bad, on the contrary.

I liked the movie a lot, i just felt it was rushed at times and overwrought with too much going on.
Honestly, it could've been a great 6-13 episode show ala Lain

I personally love Metropolis. It's one of my favourite anime movies. The music was really awesome and the graphics. Even when it's an old film it's still pretty good. In this review I only don't like the fact that you said Rock hates everything and everybody because he only wants daddy's love. It's not really true. If you could look more into his past you'd knew he lost his family and Duke Red adopted him that's why Rock is scared of losing him and he acts like that.

I don't think you fully grasp the depth of the story. All these different story lines make the story complex but complete. Without even one of those lines it wouldn't make sense anymore. It's in a sense a fine reflection of reality, where every effect has multiple causes.

I think what he's saying is that the subplots were'nt executed well. For example the political ones were confusing, convoluted and vague. I still love the movie , it stays with you, I saw it in the theatre when it first came out.

Other than Rock and the revolutioners being flat, I dont mind how the rest of the movie is constructed. It's one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. And all it's occurences pretty much make the city itself the main character.

a rich plot doesn't mean it's not comprehensible, I had no trouble understanding it and the plot not being "centered" didn't bother me at all, even if it's truthfully centered more around Tima and Kenishi.

You explain that there's a society of poor people who are angry for reasons that are never explained. Not too long after you mention that people are complaining that robots are taking their jobs.

    Poor pacing? Frustrating?
What movie are you watching because the anime Metropolis I watched is neither of these things. It was exactly as it needed to be. A movie with great characterization that it greatly focused on and stories to challenge the audience's thoughts related to the real world

Honestly i thought this film took everything that made Akira and Ghost in the Shell so good, watered that down, threw everything together with a very rushed script, dubbed it very lazily, and covered it all up with amazingly beautiful animation and art design. It's a film with a lot of problems but the things it did get right were masterful.

I don't think many of your critiques are "incorrect" per se, but you gotta realize that any film with the Katsuhiro Otomo stamp is largely an exercise in the art of animation and not storytelling in the conventional sense. In Metropolis, the pictures convey more than the words do and, as you stated, there's a masterful sense of scale. I think the climax scene is a pretty good example: the whole "grab my hand!" bit is totally cliché to anyone who's seen anything, but the cataclysmic setting and genius (JEE-NEE-US) choice of music transforms it into something mighty. Keep this in mind: film is a visual medium.

The first time ive heard of an anime with ray charles in the soundtrack O.o
The way you describe it, sounds like the movie "steamboy", beautiful to look at, filled with detail in every scene, but too comboluted with side plots and useless characters

Both movies are written by the author of Akira.

Have you played a game called Midtown Madness? It came out in 1999 and was a PC exclusive open world driving game pre-dating gta. It was developed by Angel studios and published by Microsoft. Angel studios later got bought out by Rockstar and became Rockstar San Diego. I Would gladly watch a review if you decide to do one.

It should be trilogy. I mean like, this movie have a lot of plot surrounding our main character. Its really wasted opportunities despite the fantastic world that this movie have.
