- This video is a journey to the hard part of IKEA kitchen cabinet shopping. I looked at the kitchens set up in Ikea stores before but this time we were really looking, touching, and imagining how we would use them. We still don't have a solid trash can plan, guess we'll have to cross that bridge when we get there hahaha! I've been thinking about and planning this kitchen remodel for months and it was super scary to actually say yes and swipe the card! But I did it! And the cabinets are here! Next comes the hard part!

You may have done it already, if you have disregard my comment. Make sure you lay all of your boxes down flat. Leaning them against a wall can cause warping. They can be stacked but need to be flat. Can't wait to see your beautiful kitchen and the adventure to get it!

Also it’s a shame the way some of the delivery people be acting, also it’s so obvious that some of your pieces are damaged upon delivery, that’s a shame, I’m not sure if they guy said anything to you, but I guess they have to deliver everything and then you have to return what’s damage? Also I truly appreciate you showing all the behind the scenes stuff, because the amount of work that goes into redoing a home, building, ordering, styling etc, is a lot of work, but I truly enjoy it, but I hate the disrespect folk you run into that try to make the process horrible. Sean's kitchen breakdown was everything. I love these updates! Could you do those pulls that wrap around the edge and just have a thin ledge on the bottom or side of the cabinet for a seamless look? Just curious before you drill any knobs?

Do you have a ReStore or a salvage yard with natural stone remnants? The ReStore here in VA is a good go-to for tile, cabinets, lighting, and other donations from contractors, or hardware/tile store clearance items that do not sell. When I had a porcelain sink over a stainless, I hated it. Porcelain chips and scratches like crazy. I couldn’t wait to change it back out for Stainless. Please do the research before going for prettier.
These are common complaints I hear about porcelain. I’ll make sure Sean sees this!
Hey Celia! Aww man, my comment got deleted or something the other day. I was commenting to say since you're doing drawers, if you have medium drawers, get the large drawer insides for the medium drawer front. They fit perfectly, and if you don't plan on doing the double drawer (small internal drawer), then it's totally worth it. You'll get a full sized drawer that way. There is a youtuber who introduced the idea to me. I won't try to link to the video (I think that's why my video got deleted). If you want his name, let me know. I hope my comment isn't too late since you already have your items. I had mine, and sent a couple of drawers back to do the large inside drawer with the medium drawer fronts.
Other things I did... Instead of the double drawer, I did a small, medium, large set up. That way my utensils could go in the small drawer without having to do the double drawer.
Trash drawer, I opted for a 15 inch drawer. It only fits one trash can, but worth it. IKEA recommends the 18 inch drawer for double cans, but I couldn't fit an 18 inch in the space where I have it.
Corner pull outs - I have two (one in each corner of my kitchen). I LOVE them.
Apron front sink - I have a fireclay sink (from Home Depot online). I've had it for two years, and not a scratch or ding. I clean it with Bar Keeper's Friend. If you want to go that route with IKEA cabinets, I will recommend the blogger whose instructions I followed. Let me know!
That’s a good idea on the drawers since they’re kind of short! Clearly my research didn’t take me that deep. I’d love the channel name if you have it.
We ended up going for the double drawers in both cabinets were we could. One for the utensils as Sean suggested, the other for spices. We’ll see how it goes! And we didn’t get a trash drawer cause we really didn’t have the space to sacrifice, the cans will have to live behind the back door. Admittedly this might be a fail but it’s my first go round! And since the plan is for our unit to eventually become a rental we think we’re going with a SS under-mount sink. For our “forever home” I think we’d weigh aesthetics a bit more, but this was about function, the form, with a dash of novice kitchen builder thrown in lol! Thank your for all your suggestions!!

I think you'll still love your kitchen. My home isn't my forever home, but I'd been living here over 10 years when I remodeled the kitchen, so I decided to go for most of what I wanted. LOL. Like you, I have a few different ideas for my forever home, but surprisingly, I'd keep most of what I did in this kitchen. Just hopefully a tad more space in the next one.
