Dude this video was GREAT. I was laughing so hard at the dude that kept drinking the soda lmaooo. I ship out May 10th. Enlisted as a QM, and as you said, as long as I am surrounded by the right people, I am 100% looking forward to my journey with the Navy!
Wow I'm so grateful I found your channel! The job I was given when I was sworn in is a QM as well and I leave for bootcamp next month. I've read so much information about this rate but I've been searching for an experienced QM who can tell me far more information on a more personal level. So thank you for creating this channel! :)
Katy Montejano I was with my recruiter today and he was suggesting QM as a choice. I said aviation or BM, he said I scored too high to be a BM lol. QM sounds interesting tho. Everything at the 2:10 mark sound like a foreign language.
Andre K Definitely look into QM, it's a very interesting job. I highly look forward to having a career in the Navy as a QM. But remember to do your research on any job that sparks your interest so you know exactly what you are getting yourself into. I wish you the best of luck :)
Katy Montejano I will, the recruiter gave me a site I can go on to look up each rate. It tells a lot of stuff about the rate, like the work environment, how long A school is, etc etc. The part about the stars at night got my attention lol. Where I'm from, as a kid I spent the summers in the "country" area. There was little light, and at nights, it seemed like the entire sky was crowded with stars. On a few occasions ive seen satellites or even a "shooting star" or two go by. I wish you the best of luck in your journey. Maybe I'll see you on the bridge sometime lol
I enlisted for QM back in May. I leave Nov 8th so it's only a couple days away now and I'm extremely happy with my choice of QM from everything I've read and watched QM seems to be a great rate. Being on the bridge, the most important room on the ship surrounded by the most important people on the ship, being on a first name basis with the Captain. All of that honestly just makes the rate stand out above others. I'm 19 and knowing that the U.S. military and my Captain will look towards me to Guide, Drive and overall just keep track of one of the Navy's ship's at such an early age is honestly a privilege to do. I can't wait in a couple months I'll be actually be there. I'll let you guys know how bootcamp went.
I was a Korean navy officer. When our ships are underway our bridge is so quiet you can hear a pin drop. When USS JSM came to Korea I was so surprised that bridge was so busy.
I'm in 8th grade and my brother is going to be an Air Force Officer. I really thought about joining the Navy and be known for serving my country and go to ROTC in 4 years
I am currently in DEP for the navy and my contract is pact an, I have a request to change it to either pact fn or pact sn. The jobs I wanted weren't available when I enlisted in February. So I went pact for now. If I change my contract to pact sn, how hard would it be to get gunners mate. Which I qualify for.
Was a QM aboard a Cleveland class cruiser and then a Sumner class destroyer in the 1970s in the Gulf of Tonkin & the Mekong River Delta. It was intense navigation. Got acutely intense when we entered Haiphong Harbor to assist in mining it in 1972. We were all scared, yet, it was an exhilarating adrenaline rush ! I was on the helm.
I was a Deck Seaman or striker and a Gunnersmate and if I had to choose any rate other than GM it would be QM. I loved being on the bridge and you can be stationed on almost any platform from expeditionary to Carriers.
I was thinking about Engenerring or Medical or electrical, anything that I can carry over to a civilian job. In all honesty only reason why I'm joining is to serve on a Air craft carrier and get benefits for University and get some money being on the sea (love the sea). I also thought about Nuclear but I'm not American (Yet) that has been living in their home country for the past 5 years (going to enlist as soon as I return) so I doubt I'll get a security clearence. I just enlisted as a Quartermaster today, I'm 18 and was hoping you could go into further detail about the job and what it's like, I leave Nov 1st so I still have a while to wait but any additional information would be much appreciated. Also I was wondering how did you become a forward Gunner as QM or get put on a small boat, I was led to believe I wouldn't be handling weapons as QM and that I would be on much larger boat's not the small boat you where on, did you volunteer for that could you explain please?
Brendan. Congrats on QM. Forward gunner on a small boat..well, you'll have many paths available to you in your Navy career. Keep your ears open. Something might pop up. As far as handling guns. I was a .50 cal gunner as a seaman on a warship...as well as a quartermaster. You will always handle guns as a watch stander in port. If you want to handle guns, talk to your Master at Arms. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
They changed my ship date from Nov 1st to Nov 8th so I'm about to leave. Still super excited for QM, something about being on the bridge in the thick of the action sounds appealing and very few rates put you on the bridge stright out of schooling, so it an honor. I've heard that it's possible for QM to get put on submarines but I'm not sure, I'd like to actually go on one. Anyway good luck to all.
You must be very smart to get quartermaster job. In my past experience in USAF military jobs were assigned based on those aptitude test results. My dad was a radio operator on ships in WWII .

Jacob. GM's do a lot of cleaning and maintaining guns. That's the hard part. The good part is GM's can be attached to some cool teams and wonderful places.
Just graduated Friday!! Finally in A school as a QM and will be aboard the USS Rafael Peralta! Will be on a destroyer in Japan, and told I will probably be underway a lot.. But not sure how much is a lot, and how often, any info on what that looks like on average?
Pumped for you! Congratulations on many front. First QM. You'll see and know every movement of the ship. USS Peralta, destroyer is the best ship choice you can make for your future. QM's on small boys learn quicker and rank up faster. FACT. Being underway a lot is a good thing despite what others say. The first few years are going to suck. The work is going to be hard, but you will have the time of your life in between. Japan is AWESOME. GOOD LUCK SAILOR.
Makes me kinda sad I'll probably never be on a small ship for any real amount of time. I'm AV which yeah carriers are badass and the flight deck is something special but that means I wont really have any surface warfare stuff on destroyers, cruisers, or frigates. Living on a destroyer would be awesome.
first off, love your videos. Quick question, I'm finishing up my packet for Navy OCS. I'm prior service Army, and I am indecisive on what type of officer I want to be. Should I be Surface Warfare or Supply, any suggestions?
+Corey Gardner Corey, thank you for the response to the VLOGS. I really appreciate it. I'm sure you've done a lot of research on both SUPPO vs. SWO. Looking at it from the enlisted side, SWO's have a high speed lifestyle, lots of responsibility, lots of work. You'll go to a ship automatically. You'll be in charge of a lot of sailors, you will be in a community with a lot of pride. SWO's are the extension of the captain. You will be leading men and women every minute of the day. SUPPO's have a more tranquil job in the Navy. Most of the work is done at a desk. The thing about SUPPO that is intriguing is the variety of places you can be assigned to. You can be attached to special operations commands, aviation commands, ships, you name it...we all need gear. I keep going back and forth on what I would chose. SUPPO's are happier people as a whole. They seem to have a good lifestyle. Either way you're going to have to grit it out for a few years. Once you hit Lieutenant, you're golden. If I were you Corey, I'd flip a coin. HA! Have a great rest of the week and stay in touch. -Benny
yeah... I have done a lot of research and I find myself leaning more towards supply, but I always question it for some reason. I appreciate your time and the insight. Keep making great VLOGS!!!
Congrats on your choice. You picked the right profession my friend. 90 percent of the work you do in the Navy is team centric work. Most QM work involves the entire gang. Let me know how it goes. - Benny
Benny Winslow brooooo the fast reply means soooo much I swear It means a lot I most definitely will let you know I ship January 5th i had a lot of nervousness you took a big chip off my shoulder .
+badweetabix Well you do have a choice they just push you towards the jobs that have the most openings. If your scores are high enough you can get any job you want as long as its not over crowded. I may be wrong but I'm 99% sure its like that.
my ASVAB score was fairly high and I only had 2 jobs to pick from. IT and CM. I chose CM and I was lucky because that was exactly what I wanted besides AM and AD.
No, that's how it is. I had scored a 90 out of 99 on my ASVAB so of course I was available for more options. When I went to MEPS, they gave me a pretty good selection of choices that I could choose from, but it's true they do try to enforce the ones they need on you. I ended up choosing to be a Nuke because I have an interest in Physics and Chemistry and believed it was the right choice for me. However, you DON'T have to choose a job that day if you don't see a job you like.

really great video, but my only concern is should i trust my commander? I mean what if they tell me to go to another country and fight there, am I fighting the bad people or the innocent people? and what if I feel the other side that I am fighting, is innocent ?
I figured Navy used GPS and modern nav aids to do all this . I’ve been in Air Force and worked with Army most my career thus far, so the whole ship/sailer life is foreign to me.
Yeah I hear that. The Navy does use a lot of electronic navigation aids but they also teach navigators to use old school methods first. Thanks for the comment.
I'm shipping out for basic 12122017, the rate I picked was QM. Are there any tips you could give me that would help out with my future career? I'm going to need all the help I can get.
+NO CHANCES If you can make the mile an a half run in under 12 minutes, you should be fine. My knees are messed up right now but when it comes time to test, I suck it up for a few minutes, run and it's over. Twice a year. In bootcamp you'll be running a couple miles every other day. There's a lot of people that don't run well but get through bootcamp. Doctors will make sure you are healthy enough to run before you go in to the Navy. -Benny
Bro I have no idea about divers. They don't wear uniforms much and PT a lot. I hear it's dangerous because they work under ships sometimes but other than that I have no idea. Sorry! - Benny
+TheAlyssaRaptor CT's just like all rates are in high demand. There are always spots needing to be filled in he Navy because of the constant movement of sailors (retirements, new duty etc). -Benny
I want to join the navy but I also want to expirience some action and combat and not be on a boat sailing for months sitting on my ass instead of shooting at terrorist.. is there any job in the navy out there for me or am I looking into the wrong branch.?

QM2 is a great place to start Malik. Good luck!
Benny Winslow thanks man I’m eager to learn the rate I’m prior service alao
I want to work on jet engine's but I don't think I'm that smart I have some mental problems I'm kinda dumb a little bit
Do you have to score high on the asvab for this ?
QM will take anyone. BM's too. We are the lower end of the Navy spectrum but that's why we like it.
I'm shipping out for basic 12122017, the rate I picked was QM. Are there any tips you could give me that would help out with my future career? I'm going to need all the help I can get.
What's being a FC like? I signed for AECF So I'll either be a FC or ET.
Do you have any insight on the (LS) Logistics Specialist rate?
LS is 200% overmanned in the navy you will never make rank above 3rd class if you're lucky. Look at other rates LS is supply not that great a job.
What do I need to score on the ASVAB in order to become a Navy firefighter?
All sailors are firefighters. They train us all to fight fires.
And I have osgood schlatters deacies in my right knee witch causes me to run slow and not run correctly will that effect me
+NO CHANCES If you can make the mile an a half run in under 12 minutes, you should be fine. -Benny
+Benny Winslow alright thank you Benny I would like to be in the navy but not for the longest time like less then 5 years is that possible
Your first contract will either be four or five years. Keep me posted on your progress and I'll try and help if you need it. --Benny
+Benny Winslow cool I will have to start training right away I am almost a Eagle Scout witch I heard gets you some extra money in the navy
Yes, start training and go hard. I'm not sure about eagle scout money. Worth asking a recruiter for sure though. -Benny
I got sworn in for the national guard but I qualify to be a aviation orderancemen (probably spelled that wrong). I'm really thinking about the navy
Go AO best job in the navy
+Devonte Mclendon Thanks I'm trying to get an I.T. position or linguistic.

What do you think about the job of being a diver in the navy
Bro I have no idea about divers. They don't wear uniforms much and PT a lot. I hear it's dangerous because they work under ships sometimes but other than that I have no idea. Sorry! - Benny
Thank you
Where is A school? And also, can you just go sign up for qm?
Brandon Lovell at Great Lakes IL

How in demand are Cryptologic Technicians?
+TheAlyssaRaptor CT's just like all rates are in high demand. There are always spots needing to be filled in he Navy because of the constant movement of sailors (retirements, new duty etc). -Benny
