Greta video! Yeah man I’m so tired of hearing people complaining about the R9. Pretty sure Yamaha knows what they are doing over some Joe off the street. Most people are closed minded and haven’t had experience on a variety of bikes to know what it’s meant for. It’s not meant to be a liter bike and it’s leaps better than an R7. R6 fanboys need to just let it die. Also the “it’s just an MT-09 with fairings” crap needs to stop. People need to do some research. 😂
Going to see the R9 this weekend, my local Dealership has one to look at. Hopefully they will start it, let people sit on it. I think the price is spot on!!!
Very mature commentary on the subject matter. Thank you. The R9 is actually on my shortlist for my next supersport and I haven’t really been as excited about Yamaha’s offerings in that segment since the early 2000s. The RS660 currently has top slot for me, but I do have access to ride one pretty much when I want, so depending on how my demo experience with the R9 goes, we’ll see.
Thank you for the compliment and glad you found the video helpful. RS660 is a fantastic bike and in a similar price range to the R9. Be a tough choice between it and the R9. If it were me, I'd probably go with the R9. Good luck with your selection process.
I love how we’re now spoiled for choice. Whereas before supersport mean full fairing 599cc nowadays we have faired twins, naked triples (765rs), and an Italian V twin still. Of all the Ducatis the V2 has the most heritage IMO and hope it continues in the production line.
@MyToxicMasculinity you are actually not totally correct. the later R6’s were closer to 599 than they were to 600. Ninja bounced between 599 and 636 over the years. CBR was always 599 and GSXR was also always 599 other than the really old ones. It is the 600cc class, that’s where the naming nomenclature comes from. However, bikes in that class were typically 599cc in reality. No need to be rude to others man.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m already talking about upgrading, and the YZF-R9 is at the top of the list. It’s literally the best value for your money with all the technology you get that are seen on a Superbikes. You said “more options out there,” KTM’s new 990 RC R also has the same concept as the YZF-R9, but with the reputation of Euro-brands and for the price, I’m leaning towards the Yamaha because of the proven reliability of Japanese brands.
You speak the total truth, well done. A decent rider would be quicker on their local twisties on a R9 than a R6 or R1, that usable torque will rocket out of corners. Usable power wins for me.
Sorry to comment at 3:46 BUT .. when you were listing differences up to this point you left out the sprocket sizes are different as well as the ECU Tune/MAP is “allegedly” going to be unique as well but please continue this is the video I’ve been looking for all week. Thanks 🙏
Don't apologize. Both good call outs on your part. I was just going purely off of the spec sheet on Yamaha's website instead of whatever media outlets are saying. Appreciate you chiming in, good points.
Great Great video bro. You earned my Sub. I feel the same way about the bike. I'm getting an R9. Putting my deposit down next month. Some videos I've seen about the R9 say it's alot bigger and better looking in person. So for me...its gonna be my first bike and I can't wait. Definitely gonna take the safety course. But thanks for doing this video bro.
Glad the video was helpful and nice to see you are putting your money where your mouth is by getting an R9. If the R9 is anything like the XSR900, you will not be disappointed. Thank you so much for the support.
When most Yamaha fans heard the R7 was on the way, we thought Yamaha YZF-R7 OW02, which would have been a fitting replacement for the famed R6, I can totally understand the disappointment with what came out. As far as the R9 looks cool, I might test-ride one. I'd give it a go if the YCRS has them on tap.
Great points! I think people hate on it coz they want to be blown away and or impressed. It's like they just wanted the R7 and R9 to be their dream bike just to worship and go Woohhhh I get it. On the other perspective - The R6 is an iconic bike (won everything in it's class and has an amazing engine) and people wanted anything that came after to be as iconic or even better. But Yamaha closed the R6 chapter. R7 or R9 is not a successor to the R6-it's a different type of bike and it's where the market currently is. Just look at the 650 class from Kawa and Honda or rs660 bikes. I have an R6, and I'll probably not replace it, but the R9 seems like a cool bike, and I'm excited to test-ride it.
Absolutely agree man. Yamaha is here to sell bikes and they are trying to piggy back off the MT09/XSR900 success. When we look at what happened with the success of the R7, stands to reason the logic is there to believe the R9 will also do well. Any sport bike enthusiast has a soft spot for the R6 and the R1, but business is business and as you’ve stated, the market for the R6 just isn’t there anymore. Maybe at some point they’ll make a resurgence, but if everybody keeps buying naked bikes that won’t happen. Take care man, appreciate the perspective from an actual R6 owner.
Great video, The MT 09 SP likely the best bike in the line up, most practical as well as fun factor..... Looking at the RSV4 in the background, what was your experience with reliability ? The RS 660, is actually in this R9 segment and likely one of the best misses in a way for Aprillia because of so many reliability issues with the bike
MT09 SP is a great offering. You get a ton for just a hair over $12K. I've had the 2023 RSV4 since January of 2024. The only issue I've had with it so far was the finish on the fuel tank began to crack and split in various places. Aprilia accepted the warranty claim without issue. Took about 2 months to get the parts. Other than that, I have had no issues. I agree with RS660. Awesome bikes, but the reliability is kinda scary on those.
R9 is going to be a cool bike and everyone will grow to love it for what it is. For the price and specs it's going to be extremely competitive in the middleweight sport bike class. This is what the new Triumph Daytona should been. Yamaha's choice to discontinue the R1 in other countries but not in the US sucks but gives the chance for everyone complaining to buy an R1 to potentially convince Yamaha to throw some money into their R&D to conform to the new emission standards in the future. Doubt they will do it since that same group of people say "why would I buy a new R1 when a used R1 is a couple thousand cheaper". Also, the editing is tight 🤣
Hahahaha. I have zero confidence these complainers will be buying an R1. Easier to just complain on the internet than it is to actually buy these bikes they say they love so much. If it's anything like the XSR900, the R9 will do well.
i actually like litteraly everything about the r9, other than 1 thing. the sound of the cp3 engine, im still not sure about it. i was gonna buy the zx6r, great engine sound but the r9 is just much more bike for the money, the tech and everything else is just better. and as i said the only thing still holding me back is the sound of the cp3. i never heard it IRL tho, do you think it sounds better in person IRL than what videos show ? cuz if it is there no bike that compares to the r9 at the price
I agree on the sound unfortunately. I’m not a fan of the sound of triples, including the CP3. I would say videos capture the tone pretty well. However, I’ll also say I’m not a fan of inline 4’s either other than the crossplane Yamahas.
Ordered the white/red one the day after release. Excited to get back on 2 wheels after selling my 400 moving states! This bike basically has everything I want and am so happy for it finally being released! Plus my roommate as a 2014 R6 so it'll be fun to compare the 2 bikes.
You ordered my favorite color scheme out of the bunch. I’ve got a feeling you are going to really enjoy that R9. For $12k I don’t think there’s another bike I’d rather have. Very similar price to the RS660, but the R9 is better equipped and you aren’t going to have RS660 reliability issues. Enjoy your new bike when it arrives. 👊🏽.
I put my order through for the R9 and will most likely be swapping my current gen 4 MT-09 SP. I'm wondering if an R9M is coming since i like that silver paint work from the SP. To much negativity on the Internet anyways Yamaha has done a great job with the R9.
I'm sure you can't wait to get your R9. Coming from an MT09SP, it'll feel familiar but different enough to warrant the swap. Ride safe. Thanks for contributing to the sport bike segment by ordering an R9.
Man! That white and red color scheme would be my choice if I bought an R9. I know what you mean, hard to give up such a great bike (the XSR900) for something you haven't actually seen yet. I've got a feeling these R9's are going to be a hit and all the haters will be nowhere to be found in 18 months.
You need to be rich to be a $12K bike? It's all relative, but the equation is simple... when we don't buy these so called "beloved" bikes like the R6 and R1, Yamaha won't make them.
@@ridewithKY I was joking and my joke was that you get a rich friend to buy multiple bikes so it would increase the sales and save the model.. So for this I'd say you'd have to be rich to single handedly achieve this.
Sorry about that, sometimes the sarcasm doesn’t come through text. Appreciate you taking the time to explain. If only we could do that so easily to twist Yamaha’s arm to continue the R6 and R1. Take care man.
Like the video but the facts are Yamaha is riding of great bikes over crappie replacements, I ride nothing but super sport & r9 is nothing like the r1, same with the r6 & r7. If Kawasaki & Honda are still pushing there super sport line so can Yamaha & Suzuki. It’s just gonna make them lose there super sport riders when we wanna trade in for the next gen
The r9 is not a replacement for the r1. For God's sake the r1 is still available here. The r7 was never meant to be a replacement for the r6. Yamaha has stated that in the releases of both these bikes. You can't replace an inline four 600 with a parallel twin 700. If you wanna say anything is trying to replace anything then you could say the r9 replaces the r6. The hp numbers are similar. As to why yamaha quit pushing the r6 it's pretty simple. If you produce products that constantly need updating to stay on top but regulations make it hard to do then throw in poor sales , are you going to spend millions in r&d to not make profits? No. If you need to spend more than you are making back then your not going to continue that product.
Appreciate the compliment, but as @danlford explained; the R9 isn't a replacement for the R1. Really the only thing that can replace an R1 is another R1. The R1 has rightfully earned its fan base, but the facts are they just don't sell strongly anymore. When we talk about Yamaha losing their super sport riders, they already have when you look at the numbers.
I agree with you from start to finish. But, they just announced that they are "retiring" the R1, and announces R9 is atleast weird and to make people think that is a R1 replacement. Which, its stupid... Also, going from 4 to 3 cilinders, is a really big disappointment. Ignoring that, thinking that is a mid SS and the screamers will die, it should be a good motorcycle.
@JoeStanek-vu7rl the R9 is not the replacement for the R1 and the R7 was not the replacement for the R6. In North America at least, the R1 is going to be sold beside the R9.
