    I dont think i have ever commented on a video in my 15 years on youtube, but god damn your content is SO on point! I teach photography and lighting in Brazil and now I'm looking to transition to DOP and then Director. I discovered your channel like 2 days ago and now I'm binge watching ALL of your videos! Your content is so honest and well made that I had to at least boost the algorithm with a comment. Thank you! I wish you all the success there is!

    Oh, if I may add a fun fact (because even though I tech photography, Im an engineer), from f/14 to f/8 it's an 1,66 or 1+2/3 of a stop of light. F-stop comes from the focal length divided by the aperture diameter. But the light enters the sensor proportionally to the Area, which is related to diameter squared, so each stop of light is 1,4 the f-stop. So 8 times 1,4 is 11 (1stop), while 11 times 1,4 is 16 (2 stops), so F/14 is a third of a stop darker then f/16. Ok, this is way more complicated to explain on a comment than I immagined. Sorry.

      @@douglaspcoelho4432 yeah i was thinking that, F8 to F11 is one stop so it would have to be at least one stop faster and then whatever the remaining difference is. Sometimes you cant always trust what ChatGPT says and if you question it, it corrects itself. How did you figure F14 is a third of F16?

    Scott, your spec work has been quite varied, from sports specs to food specs. How do you go about organising your reel/website and are you concerned about being too broad with what kind of commercials director you are when you reach out to new clients?

    • @ScottPetersFilms
      @ScottPetersFilms  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's a great question Ben! My site isn't currently well organised, but when I have more than 2 days off this summer I am planning on giving it a bit of re-haul with updated work and when doing that I was going to categorise it somewhat, but I do varied types of spec because I want to do varied types of work. I get bored just doing the same type of job, variety is the spice of life for me. I'm sure if I specialised in just creating one style and area of work I would arguably go further in that area, be the "whatever" guy... but I really don't want to be, and it's rarely me reaching out to clients, most of the time it's production companies that I've worked with before, that like working with me, asking "have you got any of "X" in your reel" and then I'm sending them relevant links.

    Hey Scott,
    When do you spec work do you send it to the company you are making it about and have they ever reacted negatively / told you not to share it?

    • @ScottPetersFilms
      @ScottPetersFilms  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don’t normally make it brand specific to be honest, I think this is the first product focussed one I’ve made. But I won’t be sending it to the brand, maybe I should… but I know Adidas have something like 30 different agencies they work with in the UK alone. Maybe if it was a smaller company I would reach out, but there’s strict processes in these larger companies that basically means they won’t care…

  • @SauloASFS
    @SauloASFS 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Really great video Scott! I was wondering if you have any thoughts on this: I always had an impression that having some specs with known brands would make people think I'm trying to "trick" the client into thinking i've worked with bigger names.... How to avoid this?

    • @ScottPetersFilms
      @ScottPetersFilms  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think you’re overthinking it, who cares if it’s a legit paid job or not, the purpose of a spec is to show you can do something and if someone can see something you’ve made that shows you can do it, wether you got paid for that or not I really don’t think matters :)

We're a production studio in the US that specializes in motion control work, and we're creating a series for directors/filmmakers on the ins and outs of motion control, how to best talk through your vision, and how motion control works, specifically for industrial robots like the Bolt or SISU.

      I will, thanks! This sort of content I would love to see. I'm actually about to do my first paid motion control gig this week... a 4 day shoot where every single shot is on motion control, so I'm sure I'll learn a bunch more on the job too, but it's a world I'm excited to finally be able to be in.

    • @BeyondTheSpecsChannel
      @BeyondTheSpecsChannel 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ScottPetersFilms Congrats! That's awesome that you are able to do a full motion control shoot! As you go into it, definitely make sure that the 1st AD & moco operator talks about the time it takes to mock up moves. Also, as I'm sure you already know, what typically makes things go faster when making a move is to discuss the movement, and get the beginning & end frames down fairly quickly. From there, it's just a matter of touching up focus & movements, and will make things easier to adjust depending on the software they use. (But talk to your moco tech to understand what is easily changed versus takes longer to change).
      Have an absolute blast man! Hope the shoot goes well!
