Marriage: A Covenant, Not a Contract

  • It is important to remember that God is the author of marriage. Marriage serves three purposes: it is a life-long companionship, it is necessary to establish a family unit, and it also benefits society. When a man devotes himself to meeting all of his wife’s needs, he finds fulfillment - and vice versa. Alistair Begg reminds us of the importance of our vows, and how they reflect a true understanding of what it means to love, honor, and keep for life.
    Scripture: Matthew 19:1-12
    Preached: October 27, 1996

Amen! What to do if a marriage has already ended in divorce that I didn't want but happened because I was just as guilty of causing it's demise. I truly now feel that I must remain single although I hate it.

It was after my divorce and an unexpected rift with my son that I found myself on my knees alone. I realized that I had placed the love of my son above my love for God. While praying daily for my son to come to faith I was baptized in the Holy Spirit at 59. I truly believe this happened after I put God number one. With this blessing I have no desire to find another mate. I want nothing to interfere with my sanctification and only a short time ago I felt exactly like you expressed. Grace was certainly worth waiting for. Obedience and a servants heart are my bedrock. Grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. I wish you well.

Why can't you meet with her and ask her forgiveness,.... Ask the Lord to help you to forgive her, and to help you to heal your marriage.

@@mikemccormick9667 ....dear Mike, ... I wrote my response before I could read yours. What a blessing your response is! How sad we are and how many complications we place on ourselves and our mates. When the grace and mercy of the Lord--- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit --- would give us what we need to make things right. .... I just had an interaction with my son, that makes me sad and brings tears. Such a small and simple thing to me, he turned into a big deal. But he has not sought the Lord, .... He does not show signs at least that he has.... I have been praying for him. He is the oldest of our 3 children. Maybe this is too much detail. Anyway, I agree with what you say. Putting God thru Christ on the throne of our hearts,.... Giving him first place in our every minute of every day,.... Places Him where He belongs, and everything else, in it's place..... Oh what a wonderful Lord is He!! We are blessed beyond measure. Amen and amen.

@@homebase967 Thank you Mililani for your kind words. My son is 29 and has zero faith at this time. I totally get your frustration. He is making 200k a year and like myself only a few years younger my faith was in me. Like myself my son has a drinking problem. Can't learn from his mistakes and like him I never thought it was a problem. Until it was. Only a couple days ago God reminded me of His providence when I quit drinking. The person that I went to my first AA meeting over 30 years ago was someone that drank harder than me. It was then that God first came into my life. I HAVE to love him through this process. Much easier to text than do! God bless you and your family! 🥰
