I'm a huge Mercedes fan, I really love just about all their cars. Took delivery of my brand new XC90 yesterday, and couldn't be happier. Volvo has really stepped up it's game with the new SPA-cars! All my friends have been super impressed with the XC90, and this new S90 looks even better! I mean, that interiør is Bentley grade!
I'm with the Volvo S90 everything about the car is unique The design the infotainment system the interior and the safety features are ahead compared to its competitors
I currently own a 1990 244 (290 000 km) and a 1992 745 (320 000 km). They are pretty much the definition of reliability. However, I have owned a 2004 V40 and I can tell you that is was nothing compared to those. So, being now owned by a chinese company, I can only assume that reliability didn't improve. I could be wrong and I might even actually buy a C30 in a near future (I just love the look of those cars), but I'm pretty sure that the last reliable car Volvo ever produced was in 2000, when they stopped producing 850s (which then had become the S70/V70, first generation). After that, being bought by Ford and all... Then again, one could ague that the last reliable Mercedes they ever produced was in 1995, with the W124 series.

UK Joiner I know. That's exactly what makes it special as pretty much the only Volvo's hot hatch ever produced (they sold it new up until 2013 here). When you look at a C30 R, it is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful everyday car ever made. Plus, from where I'm from, 3 doors hatchbacks are more valuable than 4 doors sedans, new or used (a C30 will retain it's value best than a S40 or a V50 of the same era). We don't have a lot of choice anyway (between the useless SUVs, all those trucks and the big saloon cars). It's not a family car, but that's not what it's intended to be.
s90 all day. More distinctive design, equally nice interior but with that special feeling Volvos have, that made them so unique. I love it. The Merc just looks bland and unsurprising.

The interior looks stunning, as nice as the S90 but different style, but the exterior... Nah. Just looks like a big C-class which was already a reduced S-Class. You can't even tell which one is which model : C, E and S are bland, and totally unsurprising. The S90's styling is so much more inspired.
S90's stance is very nice, and its frontal three-quarters view is the prettiest I've seen in a very long time. Merc is nice, but S90 is special. S90 gets my vote.
i love the volvos Scandinavian, minimalist design. a very different design to the merc but equally as modern. Personally Id go with the s90, no one will bat an eyelid to the e class
Volvo! So sleek. The interior is beyond comfortable (if it's anything like the XC-90) and the B&W Sound system is the best of any production sedan bar none.
I have a 2005 Volvo S40 with 230 thousand km on the clock and it never put me down. Last week, I got the brand new Mercedes GLA 220d 4matic with all goodies and love it, too. My wife's learning to drive now, so I'd like her have the GLA in the future and I'm personally leaning towards getting the new s90 as I adore the distinctiveness of it.
Got the chance recently to test drive the E Class merc and try out the Volvo S90 in a boutique stand (as the S90 is not yet available to test drive). The Volvo won hands down. It is distinctive and feels more special than the merc. Incredible I know! I have ordered the S90 Inscription, the first time I have ordered a car without a test drive. I think the merc just seems very similar to all the other ones in the merc family, not necessarily a bad thing I might add. Even from an interior point of view the E Class is beautiful, however the 12" portrait screen in the S90 was very impressive and well placed as is the heads up display and B&W sound system, interior materials. It is an amazing package. I cannot wait to drive it in October.....yes October....feels like waiting for Christmas.

Do not forget, most of this constant evolution are in our cars today, like crumple deformation zone, airbags, ABS, multi-link suspension, etc. I understand that most of us are boring of similar design lineups from Merc, Audi, BMW, but things is pretty same as before. I have Volvo 740 GLE, then buy W124 260E 2 yrs older. Still have this car and can see lots of them on streets every day. Volvo 7 series, well it is somehow disappeared. Volvo is really good car, but evolution is hard to beat.
E-class. It looks really elegant and expensive. I can see so many Volkswagen design features in the Volvo, whereas Mercedes has applied its own design language. It looks similar to the S and C-class, but it's original nonetheless. E 👑❤️

I'm a big Mercedes-Benz fan as well, but I have the same problem with their sedans as I do with the Audi line up. "Same sausage, different lengths." Brand recognition is important, but you just can't tell them apart unless you actually look closely.
I deeply admire the Volvo's styling and interior. Apart from the Merc's boring corporate looks I think it will have the edge. Don't forget the Merc's rear-wheel-drive as well. I hate front-wheel drive when it comes to pulling out of slippery junctions and corners.
I vote for the Volvo S90 for sure! The Merc is very nice and i love what they did with the interior with all nice shiny surfaces! But the Volvo's styling is what really wins me over! From every angle!
Rear lights on s90 are stupid.Bad design. But rest of the car is great.Its weird to see that badge on a car like this.Hope it didnt lost that sturdy feel(like it was carved from one huge piece of metal) that boxy volvos of old had. I think the e class is better than ever.It looks very german,simular to other cars in its range but it really gives out vibe of "expensivness".Probably because it is.Interior is class leading. If it was my money i would go for merc.Its more comfortable and it will drive better since volvo is front wheel drive.Like a golf. :D If volvo is cheaper i would say that is better value for money.But if they are in the same price range ,would take merc any day.
+1. .. Build quality goes to the E-Class kombi. ... The "Looks" department hands down the Volvo S90 kombi. .. The Volvo's range of 4cyl engines signals caution "could be underpowered". .. MPG frugality isn't everything........
Quick correction. The new SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) will not underpin all future Volvos. The smallest models will ride on a different, also modular platform, co-developed for use by both Volvo and corporate parent Geely.
30 plus years we have had a volvo in our driveway. Drove the s,v and xc 90. Order an e300. The dealer sells both mercedes and volvos, so we tried both back to back. We were interested in the driving assistance tech (my wife has some vision problems in one eye) and it just plain worked in the MB...volvo not so much. Same roads. The engine in the e300 was also more responsive. I really would recommend testing the engine in the E class if you are looking at the v or s volvo. xc is a different animal, recommend you look at (suggest looking at the q7 before you buy). But you probably won't go wrong with either choice. We are sad to leave the volvo brand.
hi. I drive a S60 2005 SL 2 litre T. I haven't done allot of miles it only has 39,540 on the clock. just for the first time I've had the car from new had all the brakes replaced and cam belt. it's just a beautiful car to drive and on the button everytime.
The VOLVO. My Mercedes SL550 is at the dealer for the 2nd time within a week due to issues with automatic trunk that also prevent me from using the convertible top. I have no doubt the Volvo will be more reliable & durable.

That E-Class interior has the WOW factor, but.....the exterior is near identical to the C-class! Come on guys, photocopier styling gets boring really quickly! Just look at the Audi range. :-/ S90 looks, errrm....interesting. Not sure about that grille at all but Volvo are known for their comfort and quality so I'd be more interested to see an S90 review.
S90. The back is a bit strange on video and in pictures but overall it's more special and eye catching and the interior is just as good if not slightly better than the E. The exterior of the the E is not bad either but less outspoken than the S90's.
You're too busy complaining about the similarity between the E and the C-class to notice that even this Volvo s90 is very close to her big sister, the XC90, in terms of design cues. Anyway, before taking an ultimate decision, I'll have to test them yet for now, I prefer the German one over the Scandinavian.
The Germans (BMW, Audi, Mercedes) biggest downside seems to be their success these last decades. "it's too many of them around" or similar comments that we see often. Volvo's biggest advantage is therefor the fact that it's not one of the usual G suspects, hence more exclusive. XC90 and S90 are actually exclusive even here in Sweden as the last thoroughly new Volvo was designed some 10 years ago.
I'm surprised at all the Volvo love. They have a good exterior design for the first time is around 20 years. Their interior is white, but that doesn't make it high quality or on par with the E class'. I don't know what people see in it, it's white plastic all over and the display is like a miniature version of what the Model S had many years ago.

You realize that this is also in a white car, right? That it's white leather, right? The car you see in the video is the Mussell Blue S90 that was there. This interior is the white S90 that was also there.
Why are you biased?.....I was expecting you would be just to the Volvo and show the interior otherwise you would be directing the direction of comments for the best to land on the E class!

Merc has put together what probably is at the very moment the best car in the world. (Alternative engine concepts aside, that is.) BUT (and that's a big but in more than capital letters) despite Volvo having arrived at true premium price levels the Merc will definitely be ridiculously expensive when fully spec'd. Plus: Merc is always inclined to have the "wrong" engines. The AMG lumps aren't refined enough. The Joe Average versions are just plain boring and with regard to the eco-stuff... come on .. a 350 hybrid? No one has ever bought these before, so why should we now? So, no doubt it's the Volvo then: Hardly any less good than the E-Class, cheaper, with prettier/classier looks, yet still more down to earth and an oh so positive image bundled with a good dose of individuality. Marriage made in heaven.
Volvo must think that their larger models are better sellers than their smaller saloons, or perhaps they know there is a greater profit in building big instead of small! Ford motor Company always said small cars make small profit ---large cars large make large profits. BUT small cars sell in larger numbers with their numerous addional services and car parts. I cannot understand the thinking of Volvo where they are shunning away from their core & existing car owners to cater for a newer and far richer buyer! They were with Fords so perhaps thier teaching and coaching has paid off????? No, Fords still produce some of the best small cars around and have done since the early 1960,s. It's a good job Kia is successfully producing cars that the buying publis can't get enough off.

The S90 is better. It looks better, the 2.0 I4 strategy and autonomous driving is truly groundbreaking.

The Volvo sure looks nice. But I'm a sucker for Mercs, so I'll go with that. Especially when we're talking tech.
