Bob Gibson still holds records that will probably never be broken. I played today with my 'Bob Gibson' model Spalding. It's old but so am I. After 50 yrs it carries the memories.
RIP my friend... Your legend lives on.

So many. Like Al Pepitone, below, I thought ballplayers were immortal. That changed with Thurman Munson's death. Thank you for recording these for us.

After seeing this list of names, it reminds me of not only my own childhood growing up back in the day, but also how time really DOES fly quickly in life. So live everyday like its the last b/c you just never know. And count your blessings while you are still here, b/c time moves fast & there's no guarantee tomorrow will ever come. Lot's of great ballplayers on this list. So depressing that we loss em in 2020.

This video appeared in my recommendations today, with former Pirates catcher Hal Smith appearing at the 6:52 mark. Just minutes after watching this, I saw that Foolish Baseball had put out a video today about Smith's homer in the 8th inning of Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, calling it the most important hit in baseball history in terms of a team's chances of winning a title, but largely forgotten due to Bill Mazeroski's walkoff in the 9th inning of the same game. Well, Hal, your heroics are not forgotten today. RIP.

This was heartbreaking to watch. You could field an All-Star team with just the players I watched growing up in the 1960’s who passed in 2020. Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver, Joe Morgan, Dick Allen, Al Kaline, Jimmy Wynn, Whitey Ford, Bob Watson, Lou Brock, Glenn Beckert, Denis Menke... my childhood baseball card collection. I miss the way the game used to be played - no DH, no putting a man at 2nd base in extra innings, the high mound, games that lasted only two hours, World Series games I ran home from school to watch being played in the afternoon. Those days are gone. Just because the time passes doesn’t mean progress. I’ll miss every one of these guys... they made my childhood better and made me dream of becoming one of them. Even though that didn’t happen, they’re presence in my life as a young boy made me want to be better at whatever I did. I’ll see you in the cornfield, fellas.

Bob Watson scored MLB 1 millionth run on May 4th 1975. He sprinted around the bases and it was a good thing he did. He just barely beat Dave Concepcion who had homered at the exact same time. Both were shown in highlight reels sprinting as fast as they could. The next 1 millionth run won't be scored for at least another 70 years.
