Cristat Adeniums The Fasciated Teratopias and Monstrous

Fasciation means showing abnormal fusion of parts or organs, resulting in a flattened ribbon-like structure. Fasciated stems in Adeniums are produced due to abnormal activity in the growing tip of the plant. Often, an abnormal number of flowers are produced on affected stems. This happens when something has affected the single growing point (growth center) of the plant, creating multiple growing points. When this happens along a line, stems are flattened, sprouting new growth on the top of the stem, and creating a bunching effect. Then undulate and end up resembling brains (fasciation).
Numerous new leaves appear and make the cristate plant look different than the standard.
The plant showing this abnormal growth is indicated as "forma cristata" or "f. cristata" following the plant name. Gorden Rowley, The President of the British Cactus & Succulent Society from 1983 to 2003, calls this as Teratopia. A new name to cover the world of such wonders and shockers.
Cristation are real living sculptures, sought after by collectors, coveted by plant amateurs, and widely cultivated by commercial growers, they look very outstanding when potted and certainly attract a lot of attention.
