    Hi Paul, et al. I have a friend and we both have BX2360s. The first month he had his he was pushing brush over an a bank. Tractor failed to stop he and tractor went over the steep 75 ft bank. Damage to tractor was nominal. But to him broken bones, cuts, and contusions.
    The problem was just as you point out. Tractor failed to stop when he disengaged the forward peddle. Kubota Dealer and Corporate denied any fault or liability of course.
    Almost a year later, after several attempts to fix tractor and with help of lawyer, Kubota Settled out of court and my friend had to NOT disclose ANY of the details.
    Kubota KNOWS there is a problem.
    However, oddly enough my tractor works as it should.
    I have been watching for quite some time now and appreciate your advice, hints, and especially your attention to details. Wish I could find someone in my area that took as much pride in their craft.

      Wow. Thanks Gary. It just goes to show there needs to be more awareness of the breaking issue. Thanks for posting. Let's see if they'll ate on to fix the issue.

    I have a Massey Ferguson GC2400 It did the same thing when new. They recalled it and, replaced the whole peddle mechanism with a new redesigned unit. That was a couple years ago and, I have not had any more problems. I would check to see if they have any active recalls or if the have changed the part number for the peddle mechanism.

    I know this is an older video, but sad to report this is still an issue. I went to see a new bx2380 today, and it would roll back just like that with the back pedal released. And yes, when I questioned the dealer, he was like "well, you do have the brake on the left side".

    Thats really disappointing on Kubotas part.
    Especially since this unit is primary designed for home owners that might not have the first clue as to how these are supposed to work in the first place.
    Thanks for the heads up Paul, hopefully Kubota will address the problem before some one ends up dead.

    Was going to trade my 2010 bx25 on a d series an asked about this issue after seeing this on other videos an asked my Kubota dealer an they said its the way it's designed cause there were too many complaints about the abrupt stops on the original bx25. He said they talked to there rep an he said there is no fix as its the way it's designed an if used like the manual states it's safe. But I'll never trade up now.

    Ps You added another control and I hope it has some type of pressure relief control in that add-on? At least I hope the control / spool control has a built in pressure relief... Because, once the pressure is on the other side of the control, it should have a max psi before it releases back into return flow to the tank via some filteration device (filter the hydraulics)... PSS. I am taking the time to write you because, I care.

    • @jhomrich89
      @jhomrich89 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Whoever says "you pay more for the green paint" has obviously never been tractor shopping, yes the TLB model on the John Deere is significantly more, but the other models the 1023 and 1025 are very similar in price to Kubota. Kubota BX2670 starts at $13,147 the John Deere 1025R starts at $13,561 so given that the Deere has a much better layout for using the loader, electric PTO and better pedal design I'll spend the measly $400 more to get that much more refined of a product. And besides Austin, almost every manufacturer out there outsources a lot of components John Deere compact tractors are made by Yanmar in Japan yes but even Kubota for a while didn't build their own tractors in the 80's they were made by Kioti just like LS makes New Holland compact tractors, ect. The point I am making is evvery manufacturer outsources components or the whole machine for cost reasons otherwise you would have a subcompact that costs $20,000 for a base model and nobody would buy it.

    I've got an essentially identical 2014 model BX2370, which is the same model except for the backhoe. My machine does brake to a screeching halt if I suddenly release either pedal. Unintentional rolling has never been an issue, though it does require the parking brake to hold it on an incline of any degree. All seems normal, as I would expect. Where did you get your chain saw hanger? I like that!

      Some stop, some font. Kubota has a high problem with the BX25D by letting them leave their dealerships and not being able to stop. It only takes one death and then crap will hit the fan. I custom built the chainsaw holder. It also has an axe holder on it too.

    • @GunBlue490

      Paul, Greetings from a New Hampshire cousin! I've enjoyed your BX videos and helpful hints and subscribed. I've got a 5 year old BX2370 that's your machine sans backhoe. It fortunately has never had any problems stopping quite positively, either in forward or reverse. It's a wonderful workhorse that's working out with the front end snow blower these days.

    I'm considering this machine, it makes sense to me that the heavier machines would break better. Let's say your driving along and your foot slips off the gas, your going to get a jolt, the wheels will lock up on this smaller machine. The roll and mild braking make mechanical sense to me, especially in 4WD.

  • @SteveRobReviews
    @SteveRobReviews 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting- my B7800 stops fwd or rev soon as I release the pedal. I think the pedal on the BX goes into neutral and free wheels as opposed to most hst's that stay in gear . To me a spool valve on the hst needs a retrofit. To me it's just common sense , it should stop. If I had one I'd be calling Kubota for sure. WOW - HA there's safety stickers all over the machine and warning labels but no warning of killing people . Kubota should be ashamed as a corporation for doing such a build.

    After watching this I had to go out and try it on my tractor. I wonder what the difference is between the BX25 and the BX25D. I have the plain BX25, not D. As soon as I let off the pedal (in either range) the tractor stops in just a few feet. In fact, in reverse if I let off the go pedal it stops so abruptly it almost lifts the front wheels off the ground.
    Edit: there is a comment below that this "abrupt" stop was designed out of the BX25D... as you and I have talked... people just have no imagination. They just can't imagine what might go wrong. WHY would anyone complain about their tractor stopping well??

    I have a JD 4400 with HST and it stops as soon as let off the pedal . I never use the brake to stop the tractor only to set the parking brake . That is a big time problem , but as with most things nowadays , the manufacturer does not want to recall and fix the problem because it will cost too much money . They will wait until somebody gets hurt before they are forced to fix it . Good call Paul , stay safe buddy , bob k

    Paul, as you know, I'm looking at getting one of the BX25D's this spring, or an B2601, (not sure yet) But, Debbie and I went to a dealer ship here about 2 to 3 weeks ago, and I asked them if I could play with them both the BX25D and the B2601 to see how they handle and how are the hydraulics do. They said sure, just don't dig with them, I said oh I'm not, just want to move the attachments around drive around some. So I did, and I found that the B2601 worked like it should, (just drove one of the B2601's because only one they had there) but I tried 2 of the BX25D's, and both of them done pretty close to the same thing that yours had done, about the not stopping thing. I just tried 2 is all. Tried a BX25 with out the backhoe, it stopped like it should. It wasn't setup for the backhoe attachment. So, I thought that we would share this with you. Thanks for the video's our friends, really appreciate your updates and things on tools and equipment, such a big help... Thanks Paul & Kathy....

    My b21 stops every time... Seems like your spool is not going to zero / neutral... It is not pressure...it is flow... Flow is still taking place and you releasing your foot should bring it to neutral...

    • @EngineerPEretired
      @EngineerPEretired 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand your point but, the "spoo" is what was not "centering"... Perhaps your linkage was not allowing for that "travel" so as to center... If, you were to remove connections from that linkage it might go automatically to neutral (no movement of machine)... I am guessing your spool is controlled by this linkage and since you have two pedals controlling same (it is just like you moving your handle on your bucket lever /control)... One foot pushes spool to one side (forward) and the other pedal pushes spool to the other side (reverse).

    • @paulsargent6688
      @paulsargent6688 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Plow Guys The (operators) manual says it should stop within 10 ft. frontwards or backwards. If it is not, adjust the tensioning spring for the HST pedal and should be adjusted every 100 hrs (as part of normal maintenance). Then it tells you to bring it to the dealer for that service.
      Now the (workshop) manual tells you how to adjust the tensioning spring and the amt to tighten it. After that, If it does not stop within 10 ft. then repeat the process.
      My question is, have the people either brought it to the dealer or bought the workshop manual and done this service. I brought my 2360 to the dealer and they adjust it to meet the spec during the warranty period. It is now out of warranty and I'll be doing mine soon as per the workshop manual. I believe that's where the problem is. Hope people get er done.

    Paul, My 2012 BX 25 stops in both low and high range (US model). In face you have to be careful it will wrench your back when stopping a down hill backup in high range while mowing. Took me a while to adjust to the quick stop when the backhoe and FEL are detached. Also had a 2330 and it stopped although not a briskly. I would never tow with the dipper stick. My backhoe is well used and will float after a period of time so anything attached would freely sing from side to side... dangerous! If I must tow I use a tow bar in the 3 point hitch with a stabilizer attached to stop it rotating. Only time I use the brake is for parking or when someone is assisting me by hooking chains or other material handling. Then always foot on brake hand away from all other controls unless instructed by assistant. If in dough DON'T MOVE ANYTHING! I have an assistant working with me regularly so as you say I wouldn't operate a tractor that didn't stop when its should.

I am used to this now, but always gets me hesitant when I approach a ditch or change in grade. Also, would like to see a vid on adjusting the brake pedal. Mine is going to the floor before grabbing. Happy New Year and all the best to you and Kathy in 2016.

      I've done the research and yes I've got an opinion on it but I have to wait a little bit longer before I express it. That being said I'll soon be looking at mine. I'm use to mine as well but that don't make it right. I'll be doing a video on the topic sometime this winter. Happy New Year to you as well.

    This exact thing was happening on my Massey Ferguson GC2600. Its turns out the foot pedal linkage was corroded and sticking under the tractor. I disassembled the linkage and greased it up good. The problem disappeared. Its a very annoying issue to deal with a drifting tractor especially if your doing detailed work with the bucket.

    just changed my block heater to find unpleasant surprises . one , the block heater failed after only 3 years because it was leaking antifreeze through the center of the unit to the electrical connection. i will now remove the 12 inch extension wire in summer . two . American distributors of Kubota parts are not allowed to sell to Canadians . 80$-90$ usd original part . 40$USD knockoff . 225$CDN here. three . the piece is not threaded but press fit to install and remove.Very scary because there is precious little info about how to do this yourself . But it can be done . 3/4 inch pipe with a female to female fitting screws on nicely , then torque it off gently . didn't even bother to take the drain plug off because it is very hard to remove and even harder to put back .
    love your videos . very helpful Eric Roussil Chertsey Qc

      Take the old block heater to an automotive part center. They might be able to match it up for you at a fraction of the cost. I’ve installed many frost plugs. Yes a little tricky but not bad to do. Just put liquid Teflon on them and hammer them in evenly and your good 👍

    Hi Paul and Kathy ... I tried the back and forward stop test to see what my BX would do. My BX did the opposite of yours. Going backwards it stopped immediately but forward it kept going! My observation was the back and forward pedal was slow to neutralize, so I greased the pivot under the mat but it was still slow to return to center. I'm going to look and see if a little WD40 will help the other moving parts and see if that gets the pedals to center quickly ... Could the issue be that simple? I'll keep you posted!

      Yes the pedal don't naturalize fast enough. Goes to show Kubota don't have any consistency when it comes to breaking with these machines. Purely dangerous in my opinion.

  • @TheGimpy117
    @TheGimpy117 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    did you grease the HST pedal? nobody greases those. if the pedal and linkages are binding that can be part of it. also, If you touch the oppositte direction in an emergency it will stop very fast. also the machine is equipped with a brake...the hst pedal IS NOT a replacement for a brake. but I saw your other video and yes, a linkage problem.

    • @7863348
      @7863348  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I show that grease zerk in my full service BX video. The foot brake on these things are normally only used as a parking brake. They are designed to high to use as a foot brake. I've resolved the stopping issue.

    Paul, I have a BX24 with the same issue of rolling after you take your foot off the pedal. It stops quick in reverse but continues in forward for a long way.Takes a bit of getting used, but definitely not how it should work, I did see a slight improvement when I greased the pedal fitting under the floor mat, but still not right. Maybe a heavier pedal spring would return the pedal faster, not sure. I have a hydro JD riding mower that stops on a dime when pedal is released. Something wrong in the engineering with Kubota design.

      The BX 25D is hydrostatic and it's the only Kubota that I've ever seen that acts like this. Some of them do, some of the same model don't which means if they were designed to not stop they all should be the same and they're not so there is a problem.

  • @bmwoilhead
    @bmwoilhead 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    My BX25D does not have this problem. For you Kubota haters, my 12 year old JD riding mower never gave me a problem, so the first tractor I looked at was the John Deere, very nice indeed. On the advice of a friend I decided to look at the Kubota and I was very impressed, Kubota seems a bit more heavy duty then the JD and was a bit more user friendly. Still a JD fan, but in this case I had to go with Kubota and if you put the two side by side you would make the same choice.

    My bx24 stops immediately when I take my foot off the pedal, sometimes it jars my back. Ever since kubota has put on the pedal dampers i have seen this issue. They got alot of complaints that the bx22-bx24 would stop to harshly. So they put these dampers to slowdown the pedal movement. I believe this is why they do this. When you take your foot off it takes a little bit for the pedal to return to center because the damper is there. I believe that if you take the damper off it will stop immediately just like the previous models.

    Thank you so much for the video! We're seriously considering buying this machine. I have a couple of questions for you: 1) Did you test your tractor at the dealership? If yes, didn't this problem arise then? 2) Do you know the current status of this problem--has Kubota fixed it yet since your video is from August 2015?? I just called the dealership, and she said Kubota has them do extensive testing on each machine before it leaves their store--I'm assuming it's no different in Canada, right--or are they pulling my leg??? LASTLY, WOULD YOU STILL RECOMMEND BUYING THIS KUBOTA VERSUS ANY OTHER TRACTOR OPTION IF YOU HAD TO AGAIN?
    I really appreciate your video; thanks very much!!

    Does anyone know which lines you switch to reverse the backhoe controls on the BX 25?

  • @nnonix
    @nnonix 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The father-in-law has an older BX25 that doesn't stop either and it's pretty clear that it's not designed to. I have driven plenty of hydrostatic vehicles that stopped immediately as you describe but then I've also driven several that do not. Really it comes down to whether or not the control valve allows fluid to bypass when near the neutral position.
    The bypass is under tension like a weak pressure relief valve and so the vehicle will ultimately stop and hold position but the bypass makes the vehicle MUCH (I repeat MUCH) more comfortable to drive in repetitive forward/reverse movements than those that auto-stop. The auto-stop feature creates a much more jerky operation and when you're stacking dirt you will appreciate the bypass.
    In this case I must agree with Kubota, it's not broken. You can do as you do (use opposite pedal to counter your movements) or use the brake (yes I think it's higher than it needs to be).

    I'll have to see what mine does ... interesting to know the brake is for the emergency brake only. With that said sometimes I'll switch from forward to reverse or vise versa and it stops on a dime ... not sure if that a good thing or not. But I'll the do the stop test as you did and see what happens. On an other safety issue ... the seat. I actually received a letter from Kubota [and inset for the owners manual[ on the bolt that holds the seat in place. It was last winter, and last winter here was a bear ... my seat popped completely of the stand .. my little tent shed from Horror Fright [aka Harbor Fright] was warm and cozy, so the repair [double nutting the existing bolt] worked fine and no issues since. Thanks again Paul and Kathy for the video and information.
