This was filmed by a prof. news crew, (i.e.) the firsties are on their best behavior. The Plebe summer process now is substantially relaxed compared to the old days. Marine bootcamp was a cakewalk compared to our Plebe year. To bigarmyrob, yes the arrogance of being a ring knocker was taught to us from the evening of day 1 onwards.
Not needed. Pictured above is just the first day with a small number of upperclassmen... the first day of more than four years! *s/ Retired 24 Year US Navy Submariner - USNA Class of 1965*
Hey, remember this is the morning of the very first day. Plebe summer gets a LOT harder after this. This is just the rude awaking that they're not civilians any more. A lot of what they have to do is stuff that doesn't make sense but it does have a purpose...follow orders immediately and exactly whether you understand them or not because that can be critical in dangerous situations. This is about attention to detail, teamwork, functioning well under stress, etc.
1) This is so awesome. Thanks for posting this, My friend is right there. This is crazy. I haven't seen him since we graduated High School 2) Ajcadoo is right, the military is our leader.
@frootbooter29 True, it is a component of the Navy; however, it's still a seperate branch of the military. The two operate autonomously, with their own chains of command, uniforms, history, objectives, and missions.
@poolie626 Yeah, but Army Cadets, Navy Midshipmen, etc. are all considered members of the armed forces. Obviously, they aren't going to have the full responsibilities and benefits of, say, an active duty Marine, but they are still part of the military.
A Cadet at USMA does not hold an actual Army Rank... a Midshipman is a Midshipman in the US Navy. *Subtle difference.* *s/ Retired 24 Year US Navy Submariner - USNA Class of 1965*
Always the same treatment for all of the new plebe candidate in a military academy in the world by their senior,,,,,,senior,,,,senior,,,can do no wrong
@TheLogan1156 not 100% if you were to get kicked out of a service academy, you don't get any military benefits, time in a service academy does not count as active duty time when you graduate. You're at the same standard and rank as being an ROTC cadet
No, you dodn't know what you are talking about. Your time at USMA counts as Active Duty Service time toward Obligated Service and also retirement. If you graduate and are Commissioned it does not... however, should you later work Civil Service it does count toward Retirement and pay.
I know just what the 3 prior enlisted seamen I know, who got accepted after they got out tell me. And it amazes them, how entitled cadets feel. As well as the West point graduates and cadets I know. What branch, are you again?
I am a Former Enlisted man that was subsequently appointed to the Naval Academy by a Congressman. These are not cadets in the Academy, they are All Midshipmen in the Navy. You don't know what you are talking about and are just seemingly trying to troll and incite! *s/ Retired 24 Year US Navy Submariner - USNA Class of 1965*
@tlages oh god.. Im so sorry!!! My brother always goes on my account to comment. No Harsh feelings. Sorry for the disrespect and i'll tell him to say sorry. ahh please don't be mad..
@esoberanis1 I wouldn't be bagging on the most influential military power in the world. you should be grateful instead of commenting on videos such as this.
The same "macho types" that provide a new plebe with structure and guidance. Maybe you should research the USNA before commenting? After all, everyone you've seen in this video have or will go on and serve the US Navy or USMC to protect your rights and freedoms. Maybe you're mad because you were rejected. The world may never know.
+Riley Johnson "protecting your rights and freedoms." Even if you repeat a lie over and over again, it still doesn't make it true. Give them a purpose and make them believe its noble. Then they will willingly sign up. Realty check: Becoming a murderous robot for politicians is nothing to be proud of. You were duped. Playing dress up and reciting fairy tales to justify evil.
Lol if you think those Firsties were bad look up videos of the Marine Corps. They were instructing the plebes to do a task, and were corrected. They were not yelling, hitting, or doing anything else besides talk to the plebes.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice, - is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.
Lmao these guys think they're the actual military. Give me a fuckin break, are these actual graduates. Or is this just part of the self entitlement process you learn each year at an academy? By having new students( they are all indeed students. Not commissioned officers) call you Sir? This is like a PFC yelling at Pvt, and feeling powerful for it.

The Academy should have Marine Drill Instructors there, just for shock and awe!
Not needed. Pictured above is just the first day with a small number of upperclassmen... the first day of more than four years!

Make it happen. Get there. Hmm that sounds interesting

NROTC doesn't last for 6 weeks. Plebes have to do this all the way until May of the following year.
1) This is so awesome. Thanks for posting this, My friend is right there. This is crazy. I haven't seen him since we graduated High School
2) Ajcadoo is right, the military is our leader.
About to get my nomination, but may go to USMMA. MY BODY IS READY!!!
So did you end up going?
Glad to see that Midi has no idea what a 90 degree angle looks like
@assumethepowerstance This is actually really calm. All hell breaks loose in Bancroft Hall
GOD I can't wait I hope I get accepted
Did you get accepted??
The reason these guys are so nice is because they are midshipmen as well.
@crumbutt If you're enrolled in the Naval Academy, you're a member of the military. You have a rank, and everything.
As explained above, not so at USMA however!
AWE .
NJROTC, getting me ready for this day.
@frootbooter29 True, it is a component of the Navy; however, it's still a seperate branch of the military. The two operate autonomously, with their own chains of command, uniforms, history, objectives, and missions.
And so it begins
Class of 2017 all the way!! Beat Army!
@poolie626 Yeah, but Army Cadets, Navy Midshipmen, etc. are all considered members of the armed forces. Obviously, they aren't going to have the full responsibilities and benefits of, say, an active duty Marine, but they are still part of the military.

Very scary, oh my.
damn DAT BLONDIE!!!
correct. in most cases it is much more difficult.
USAFA inprocessing was a lot more intense. This guy seems pretty nice.
Another moron that has not been thru USNA.
Always the same treatment for all of the new plebe candidate in a military academy in the world by their senior,,,,,,senior,,,,senior,,,can do no wrong
I love you Lindsey Darling! I miss you I'm sorry you got yelled at :(
? what are you talking about
So many clueless detailers. Trying to act too tough and screwing up their job.

This actually doesn't seem that bad. Seems as harsh as army cadets in Australia
67 days
worst six weeks of my life :P
Really? You went to USNA? How was your experience and what was the 1 thing that you regretted the most at your time in USNA?
what is the manual they are reading?
It is a Book Called Reef Points... its contents *in their entirety* need to be committed to memory by each Plebe.
This is incredible. NROTC orientation was about 10x more intense than this.
Spoken by a moron that has not been thru both...
trust meh there are more intense guys than that
They're upperclassmen, not officers yet. =)
@tlages oh god.. Im so sorry!!! My brother always goes on my account to comment. No Harsh feelings. Sorry for the disrespect and i'll tell him to say sorry. ahh please don't be mad..

@@jd5655 I made this comment when I was 10, embarrassed that my brother used my account to comment. Hah so cringy.

Man they need to train them like the Marines do. This is too lazy and relaxed .

@esoberanis1 I dont know if you make much common sense yourself.
@Keyboard858 absolutely false.
Navy. LOL
they are so soft. go into the marines and they will cry
Many Marine Officers are products of this Training at The Naval Academy. It's obvious that you have never been so trained!

Classy
school is not the military.
Making it up a you go along? Moron!
