P.Sarasate : Carmen Fantasy, Op.25 & Massenet meditation well you cant get much better music than that or a better Violinist than Zia Shin, plus the added bonus of seeing this beautiful young South Korean Violin playing live at her very best !!

Pablo De Sarasate, Niccolò Paganini & Antonio Vivaldi are the most incredible violin composers of all time. Always when I hear a piece from them, I imagine what were they thinking when they wrote their masterpieces, like... "this violin nowadays sounds so boring, let's squeeze new sounds of it like there's no tomorrow". Incredible performance!

Wonderful performance. This woman has astounding technique. More importantly, she has a sense of the music and drama. She does not let technical obsession spoil the music. She uses all her skills and beyond that, she helps us understand the the composer's spirit. Some musicians give us only the notes. They are able to hit correct pitches, and play the notes on the page. Mechanical performances by other musicians can be like listening to a music box. Of course, your accompanist shows the same sensitivity. Together the two musicians are magical. Thank you for sharing your passion.
It is not possible to imagine a better performance of the Carmen Fantasy: utmost virtuosity in the insane parts, most intimate playing in the introvert places, full of beautiful and inspiring nuances - all delivered with a great honesty and artistic imagination. It leaves me speachless!
Very nice vibrato and unusual to see a hybrid (or combo) wrist vibrato and arm vibrato, although she sometimes alternates. I heard her (via recording) play at the 2012 Queen Elisabeth Music Competition - she was one of my favorite contestants that year - I would have voted her for 1st prize, yet she got 3rd prize (still impressive). I played the violin in competitions in the 1970s to early 1980s and usually I placed 1st or 2nd yet a few times I didn't even get into the finals - depends on many variables and subjectiveness of the judges and (similar to Olympic gymnastics scoring) bad luck of making mistakes that day.
Similar to ANY competitions where there are multiple judges.... you can pay them off, you can wine and dine them, you may be dating their daughter... you could buy them a car every year... a TV.... there's all kinds of hidden B.S that goes on with judges. The only way to get an honest set of judges would be to sequester them last minute at random from all over the world, and NOT let them talk to any of the contestants.. and make sure that they do not know any of them personally.... Judging is a dirty business. It's rarely fair. Just like picking a jury for a trial. It's IMPOSSIBLE to find jurors that are NOT biased in some way, shape or form. Same everywhere. Doesn't matter. You could be swimming in a competition with a timeclock... but there's still a judge saying that you won by the clock, but you took one extra stroke under water (that nobody else saw)....

That's an interesting interpretation Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy would usually sound more of a bravado with big and heavy sound while yours were more intimate and refined I would definitely love to see a Waxman version with your style!

I think the modern Violinists are every bit as good as the oldies...if not better !! Zia Shin is one of my favourite lady Violinists since around 2008 when I first saw her play on TH-cam, she was called Shin Hyon-Su also Hyun Su Shin back then. I think the modern Violinists are every bit as good as the oldies...if not better !! Zia Shin is one of my favourite lady Violinists since around 2008 when I first saw her play on TH-cam, she was called Shin Hyon-Su also Hyun Su Shin back then.
