“Dressing for a lifestyle I don’t have”. This so resonates with me, I’m retired don’t go out much so why do I need the latest expensive fashion/style ? I need comfortable clean practical clothing, subscribed immediately 😎👍.
It’s been so hard to declutter. I’ve worked for 4 major clothing brands (Ralph Lauren, Diesel, Giorgio Armani and Michael Kors) and my style has evolved since. I still have pieces from each brand and boy oh boy. I was tiny then. Not a lot of places want my vintage designer apparel. Ugh.
Hey James, as a man in my early 30s, I related to every single point. Only now do I feel I've kinda found my style in relaxed and baggy silhouettes, whereas before, I used to think my clothes should reflect how much work I'm putting in at the gym. I'm currently trying to offload a lot of items by listing them on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and Depop, but I'm not getting as much traction as I'd hoped. I would love to see a video with tips on how to effectively declutter and sell. Amazing video as always! Cheers mate!
Only been following your channel over the last few months but I’ve been loving your videos. I agree with pretty much all the points you make throughout this videos and others. It’s great seeing a fashion content creator truly minimising their wardrobe to pieces they actually wear, not what modern society deems to be “worthy” or “in-trend”. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel many creators always touch on the negative impact of having so many clothes, preaching to spend wisely and/or purchasing less fast fashion and more high quality. When ironically, they deem their over consumption to be ‘valid’ because of their lifestyle and occupation. To a degree, I definitely understand, but I feel people can still be fashion creators, without the need of an excessive amount of pieces. A bit of yap but anyways, I’m glad you’re preaching these wise words!
Been watching you from the very beginning and you always had great insight on personal style while displaying personal awareness. Good to see your channel growing ! 🙏🏼
Love the dressing for social media take brotha, I have put on some clean outfits during my day to day but nobody would no cause I don’t post a lot as well feels good to just dress for yourself and nobody else
I like your videos very much, James. Because they’re always very enlightening. You have a distinct quality of being always very humble, sincere and frank with your insightful opinions. You touch on the really important and unpalatable things in fashion. I wish others on TH-cam did the same 👍 thanks!
maybe your best vid yet. it's really refreshing to have a voice in the youtube fashion space encouraging consuming less and with more purpose rather than more.
Can't believe I missed this video. Even though I'm not a fashion content creator, I relate so much to everything you said. To me, social media has really turned into a disturbing and abusive inner voice that makes me feel constantly insufficient and dissatisfied with myself and my life. That's one kind of self-awareness that's really bad - the awareness of everthing you are not (and maybe wish you were) and everything don't have or own. I have to step away from it in order to be able to listen to my own self, my tastes and needs. And after watching your video I feel more inclined and inspired to go that route.
I agree with all the points mentioned in this video People create their own mental health issues by constantly comparing themselves to other people on the internet and faking their lifestyles for clout instead of putting their own happiness first I’m glad I got rid of IG and have never used TikTok because those apps preys on your insecurities to make you buy stuff you don’t need just to feel accepted by other equally insecure and snobbish people who are chronically online As a fashion community we need to stop with the “aesthetics” nonsense and go back to giving each other good ideas and active encouragement for better outfits and discovering our own tastes
"We're all vain creatures at the end of the day," says you. Makes me think of the novel Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray: “The world is a looking-glass, and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face. Frown at it, and it will in turn look sourly upon you; laugh at it and with it, and it is a jolly kind companion; and so let all young persons take their choice.” "Ah! Vanitas Vanitatum! Which of us is happy in this world? Which of us has his desire? or, having it, is satisfied?"
This was a great video with a positive message and practical advice. Also, that hair is absolutely working for you and your skin is glowing! 👀 🙌🏻 I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your skincare routine with us? You always look so fresh faced. Cheers!
Thank you mate!! Honestly nothing special, I don’t use any scrubs and just use CeraVe moisturiser after my shower and that’s it! I drink a lot of water, perhaps that helps! 🙏
Water is life. I suspected that might be part of it. I assume you also abstain from cigarettes and drink alcohol moderately. Those two vices can definitely contribute to a diminished complexion. Thanks for replying!
Thank you for this video Im also at a point in my life where im trying to quit various bad habits. None of them relate to fashion, but nevertheless this was a helpful video. Your organized and reductive approach is definitely something I'm trying to replicate. And I'm glad i got to start my day with this video
Jame, love the vid as usual! Are you actually wearing the MBS tee here? I think I found a decent alternative and wanted to get your thoughts on it. It's the Aylestone Core T-Shirt - Gyr White from Admiral. Finally, what do you understand by the term 'Tubular T-Shirt'? I am seeing it a lot since the advent of JAW's top in The Bear. Thanks!
As is being delivered and by James specifically, you do not need to look like “an unmade bed”. Be confident in you as an individual and listen up to what James is offering - it’s a suggestion not a directive.
Does anyone know where I can find that exact Adidas t-shirt he wears in the second Instagram post at 1:40? In the link it shows up a different t-shirt..
Hello James! Really enjoyed the video as always, I have a question for you. I was wondering if you'll do some brands reviews in the future since you've stopped buying multiple items at once especially if it's all from the same brand? That kind of video is always interesting to watch but the concept of it doesn't seem to match your mindset about how you deal with your wardrobe these days.
I simplified my work clothing by wearing the exact same thing daily. I have 3 black polos and 4 black trousers, all identical. I also Rotate between 2 pairs of shoes. All black everything. Thank me later. P.S. no one will notice OR CARE.
Similar to Marx's theory about how societies need to go through every transitional stage in order to truly achieve their highest form, I feel like the same notion applies here where in order to truly achieve this definitive state you describe in the video we must go through all these stages. For instance I already got over the "wearing something new everyday" and learned the lessons, but I'm currently in the hype of dressing for a life/subculture I'm not part of (yet). And I feel like if I skip that it would always live in the back of my head like wondering what could've been. Maybe it's not that deep and this comment is super cringe LOL 😂But great video as always, mate!
Except that’s not the point of Marxism it’s a trick by powerful people to cause infinite revolt and revolution because ultimately in a atheist worldview there is no direction for man but to mindlessly evolve for and change to become God. In short I agree as we get older we get wiser. Then how much wiser is the one before All.
I'm 28 now and I think as I got older, I did less and less of dressing fraudulently aka wearing what isn't me and moreso what I wanted to be seen as. And I also just choose less pieces nowadays because the neuroticism that comes with "looking right" is just too stressful and I've seen my gf stress like that and I didn't want to impart that into my life. I love peace. So nowadays instead of dressing for a certain look or goal, it's really just to dress comfortably and a look and feel of ease but also with an expression that there was sophistication and planning in mind, not just thrown on something. And when I do wanna have a certain look, it's purposeful but also comfortable and non stressful in the thinking of what's put together. I think overthinking about what others will think, will be negative to your mind and self esteem. I don't really care what others wear tbh so it's much nicer to be around someone who might not dress well but they're comfortable with themselves and enjoyable to be around with, than someone who dresses nicely but has to make sure they look correct all the time so they keep picking at their clothes and hear them constantly critique what theyre wearing rather than enjoying themselves
This a great message, well thought out and written. Sounds like you’ve really found your personal style and comfort level, that’s awesome. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Haha, gotta be honest with ourselves 🤣🙏

Wise and self-aware
🙏🙏
as Kendrick Lamar once said "Im sorry I live a boring life, I love peace"

That’s great to hear mate! To be honest I’ve had trouble offloading some clothes as well, so I end up giving to charity! Thanks for watching 🙏

I would say, that you are also different from the others in the way you talk. Very calm, beautiful pronunciation and nice voice.
Thank you!
Last tip is so important! I'm happy with a shirt I bought on sale last week, I had it saved for months 😀
Awesome! 🙌
Appreciate you, James. Always look forward to your (and Harrys) weekly uploads. Keep up the great work👌🏻
Thank you my man 🙏
Hello james,
Another great video. Very uplifting.
Cheers.
Thank you my friend!

Really kind words, thank you 🙏
Another banger video James 🖤🤟 I'm also in the process of decluttering & simplifying my own life
Amazing man hope it goes well for you! Thank you 🙏
The concept of calling people "outfit repeater" is truly insane. That's like saying you aren't allowed to eat the same meal twice in your life 😵💫

My king, would you suggest and model some swimwear, the best underwear, etc. No other motive than examples for a body type such as yours.
Another Great video. So happy with your Channel growth. Well deserved 👍🏼👍🏼
As a woman I’ve gone through all of these myself. Great video James!
Hopefully you found some improvement! Thank you 🙏
@@JamesLeung oh for sure! I have learned the same lessons as you have-can totally relate to this video as I’m sure many can. Thanks.

Great video, I’ve been thinking the same thing… focus on buying on high quality essentials.
Can we have a wardrobe tour at some point ?
It’s the best way to go 🙏 yeah I want to do something like that, just waiting for a bunch of house work to be completed first!
Thank you for this video

This video is a treatment! Thank you!
Not browsing final sales is a good tip. Next thing you know, there is price reduction on a final sale.
Yes exactly! Thanks for watching
Really nice evolution. I can relate.
🙏
Points discussed all new to my ears
Blue jeans and a white ass tee is good for me
True true 🙏
Useful video and mostly agreed with you 😅❤
I gave up social media and downloaded Duolingo instead now I’m moderately good at Spanish

Yeah sorry about that, it’s out of stock unfortunately. If you search for 70s Adicolor t shirt then you might be able to find it on eBay!
