Deadass when a Frugal video came up on my recommended for the first time, it was one of the older videos where it was narration-only, and I definitely just pictured Hiccup but hypebeast.
People appreciate thoughtfulness, and in a fashion context basic is essentially a synonym for thoughtless, you wore the outfit without care as to why it fits you or your aesthetic and more than likely the fit is an attempt to follow a trend without thinking about why it aligns with your overall look. This is why the same outfit can look great on one person but basic on another person.
since 2017 graduated college, got a job, made a career out of it, got married, became an uncle to 3 nices and nephews, revamp my style cause i watch frugal and other fashion youtubers, and now im working on my weight and eating habits. shit man i've done a lot to be honest.
2024 What I have done with my life this year: - travel Asia for 1 month (Japan, Korea, Thailand) - visit Portugal - Visit France and go to a Travis Scott concert - Visit Monaco - Lost all my money doing this and had to wake up at 5 every morning for work - Going to visit Norway next month - Apply to flight school Cheers Frugal

Although my knowledge of fashion is limited, I think the distiction between simple and basic is insight and elegance. A simple and clean fit is elegant and skillfully put together using insight and technique gained from experience.
What did i do since 2017. I went to middle school, survived covid 5 times, kept my grades up despite the pandemic, overcame my technology addiction, started to garden, started going to the gym in high school, made my high school volleyball team, broke my wrist (playing soccer), broke my elbow (rock climbing), broke my ankle (playing soccer), healed, trained with the Guatemalan national volleyball team, tried to ask a girl on a date (she invited her friends), started caring about fashion, subscribed to Frugal Aesthetic, and started dressing better. 😊
I love how much hate Sambas are getting like Air Jordans and Forces aren’t by far the most popular shoe, some people really want to see 9/10 people wearing Nike, they’re not happy with 8 😭
Since 2017, graduated high school, undergrad, and in the last month of my Master's, got a girlfriend that year and we are still together, moved to a new province, made new friends and hobbies 🤠

i think the difference is “basic” refers to how popular something is in a negative connotation (i.e “nike tech with jordans is so basic), while “simple” rather refers to the simplicity of a piece or outfit . a good example frugal gives/ shows is the margiela gat (though the gat itself is becoming basic)
