Just in case you think it is, This is not a normal passage on a well-prepared and properly skippered boat. Its a melee on a tired boat.

You hand steered for 3380 miles? Why on earth would you do that? And what's up with a guy who takes a crew of 8 on a transatlantic passage with sails that obviously should have been replaced long ago?

Not the first to think this I'm sure, the owner/Skipper of that boat should bury his head in shame. A wholly unprepared boat, with old sails and poor maintenance that put the whole crew in danger. This boat (and I take my view based on the pre departure disarray from the previous episode as well) is an absolute "dogs breakfast". If ARC rules hadn't been in place this skipper likely would have set off without proper safety in place, needless to say his lack of due care and probably inadequate sailing skills 1) ripped the sails, 2) wrecked the autopilot and god knows what else. This series is an example of what NOT to do on a lengthy passage. (I pity Terry Crouch, who filmed this, who had to endure this skipper..)
