As someone whose brain does not jive with vertical weeklies no matter how hard I try, I so appreciate that more planner companies are starting to embrace horizontal layouts!
I love Hemlock and Oak! I love the new B5 size. For anyone who is interested know that they also have notepads, if you're looking for something at a lower price point. I think Amanda has them in one of her previous videos.
I do so appreciate Hemlock and Oak. I have never purchased a full planner from them (a little above my budget). But all the details they pay attention to, and the SUSTAINABILITY they think of. I have enjoyed some of their printables from their website. And am grateful that they offer that option. I am so glad to hear you say such GREAT THINGS about them. And share with everyone this small AMAZING company!
A note on the B5 grid, it is listed as 4.4 mm. You have to select the B5 size on the Minimalist option and it will reflect the grid size under Measurements. Also shows on the comparison chart. I just wanted to share because the bigger grid size is one of the reasons I snagged a B5 right away. Just love the extra room for someone with slightly bigger handwriting. Thanks on the review video!
@@deborahsmith6782Agreed. All those are major pros. I also like the monthly layout with all that grid. Makes it so much easier to write. It's very functional but also looks sleek-looking and open to any kind of embellishment.
I did click on the B5 and it didn't have the correct measurement (it actually was listing at 3.7mm which was less than the normal grid! That's why I was so confused in this video. lol. After I emailed them they did say it was listed wrong there and they fixed it- although it was correct in the comparison chart and I should have gone to check there;) I love the extra room too!!!
Thanks for grid size as I’m giving up my love/hate relationship of ten years with the Hobo Cousin over grid size. There’s so many choices these days of monthly/weekly/daily that weren’t there when I started using the Cousin. I don’t have to put up with total mismatch between the grid size and my hand writing anymore.
Oh be still my heart! B5 is my absolute favorite size, but not that many options for it in the planner world. Passion Planner style was functionally my jam, but the “harshness” for lack of a better term, of the print was enough of a turn off and I only used it for 1 year. This minimalist B5 is THE ONE. 😍 I ordered with your affiliate link and used your discount code. To my delight the color I wanted was even available with a slightly imperfect cover for an even better price. Thank you so very much for your many many hours of work you put in for us. Blessing from Hilton Head, SC. 💜
Your video came out at the perfect time, love it and as a result, I may replace my Passion Planner to use H&O as the functional planner for 2025. I also received a notice today about a discounted rate for planners that have imperfections. So of course I ordered a vertical minimalist to try out in the A5, love the grids and simplicity. I got the undated, as I did with Sterling, so I can go in and out of them if I choose to avoid waste. This is the final for me this year, there is so much to choose from. My goodness! 😊
I love this planner, I discovered it watching your videos, Amanda. I turn the Saturday/Sunday into a 'to do' list. This paper is so close to the color of Bic whiteout I just white out the Sunday numbers (you can barely see it) and put Zig dots on top of Saturday times. It makes a three inch to do list on the right next to my time-blocked week.
I have been sitting on the fence for the longest time for H&O. After fighting so hard to get a Hobonichi 25 on their launch day, I discovered that I truly cannot stand ghosting on my planner… thanks for confirming that this will be a good alternative!!
I love when companies move forward to B5 sizes. B5 is the perfect size for me and is the only one I will get but it was so hard to find at first when I started doing bujo stuff. Only archer and olive had it when I first started but now many planner companies are adding it to their line up as well. Very exciting to see. I was wondering if/when we were going to get an updated thoughts video on Sterling Ink common planner? That's the system I decided to try for next year but I'm always looking for different thoughts and opinions of others who have used the same or similar systems to me.
I really hope they restock the daily duo in the flex cover-- I tried a H&O planner and loved the layout but hated the pointy corners. (I know, the weirdest things can be a dealbreaker, right?)
Thank you Amanda! ❤️ Wonderful video for this amazing company… I’ve used the weekly all year and loved it! Have the chunky daily for 2025… but am tempted to get a weekly as well! 😅 the paper, simplicity which is great for decorating whatever way I want, and the thoughtful layout, quality etc.., it’s pretty perfect! 😍 thanks for this video! 🥰👏🏼💕✨
Great video, thanks Amanda! I ordered the Flex A5 minimalist weekly this year in the rose color and it is sooo nice. I ended up giving it as a gift as I still have 6 months to go with my current planner--I'm really hoping H & O will offer their wonderful Flex planners in academic years.
I have been waiting for this review! You know that I used and loved H&O for several months at the end of last year and beginning of this year, but the grid was just too small for me and I felt really squished. I was excited when I saw that they were coming out with the B5, but I was waiting to see your review to decide if it would make the difference I was needing. And I think it does! I don't have a book bound in my 2025 lineup yet, and this may be it!
Thanks. I was waiting on this review. I’m going to go with the new B5 vertical weekly minimalist. I was undecided between this and sterling ink common planner. What I don’t like about their daily duo is that the second one just goes into the month so basically you always have to reference to the first one at all times for yearly planning. Overall I love Hemlock and Oak. Thanks again for your reviews.
I REALLY want a H&O for 2025! I know I am running out of time as they sell out but I am having trouble deciding which one. It would most likely be a daily, that is the one that is not in my current line up, I would choose the Daily Duo but $91 is a lot to let go of at once, although I get why it is more. Thank you for another amazing review! 💕
Thanks for the review! I used the Minimalist planner earlier this year and enjoyed it, but I see that the B5 size would have made it more sustainable for me.
Thank you:) When I was making my video the B5 was listed wrong on the site saying it was less than the normal- i think it was listed at 3.7 like the A5...I can't remember. But I then asked them about it and they fixed it. But I didn't get that info. until after this video was made...hence why I kept questioning it;) LOL. But thank for for laying them all out here:)
Another great review, thank you Amanda! I do have a question though. I need to get some graph/grid inserts for the first time and I’m debating among Hemlock & Oak, Jane’s Agenda, She Plan and Cloth & Paper. I know you have reviewed the first 3. Which would you recommend if I want the lightest grey grids? I’ve never used graph papers before but want to try them starting with the lightest so that the lines aren’t so distracting while still writing straight. Thank you in advance!
Hi:) I only have reviewed Hemlock & She Plans. Ive had cloth and paper in my hands becuase my sister has used it. I think H & O would be the lightest out of the 3 I've seen. I don't have cloth and paper here or She Plans grid here to compare to H & O. But from the ink color in the new She Plans bound books for 2025 that I do have I am guessing her graph grid would be darker than H & O...but that is just a guess bc I don't have a graph grid page of hers right now to compare. Sorry I am not much help on that dilemma!
Thank you so much for this timely video. I had NO idea H&O now had a B5 planner. I have been wishing for this for a long time, so not sure how I missed it. Your video was supper helpful - I especially liked the measurement comparisons. Any idea if we will be able to use a Black Friday code + your code? $74 dollars is a lot for a planner, with no returns accepted.
I am so glad this came at the right time! They told me my code will stack with whatever black Friday sales they have:) I don't know what the sale will be for...and if the planner you want is low stock I would just go ahead and get it now:)
@@hemlockandoak That would be great! I bought the B5 minimalist because I didn't want to be carrying a planner with a lot of personal information to work, etc. Would definitely be interested in buying a separate goal/journaling book to have at home, though!
My thoughts on Hemlock and Oak are kind of all over the place to be honest. I applaud their sustainability efforts, their cover colors and their paper quality. The pros and cons I have are really more of a personal choice otherwise to be honest so nothing against the company itself. Only problem I had was the cover started peeling in some small spots on the front and back. I converted it to rings, recalled why I don't like rings and now just use the rest of the planner as reference note pages.
Hey Susanne:) Thanks for chiming in as a user. I haven't heard of this cover issue with anyone else so I am thinking it might just be a bad egg. I haven't used one for a full year yet but all my covers seem very well made and I haven't had any issues. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder what they mean by reducing emizsiins by 200% lsnt 100% *all* of the emissions? Either way, I am totally getting a daily duo if its atill around on Wednesday.
Hi Jennifer, that's a really great question! Algae Ink production actually involves the capture of CO2, so it's not just carbon neutral (which would be a 100% reduction). We want to be really careful about our messaging because we had to mix in some conventional ink to ensure it printed dark enough, but we're going to continue testing because we'd love to make the full transition in the future.
Ok so here’s the thing. I bought 3 h&o planners for 2024. I have a girl in the planner community that is so jealous of me and everything I buy that she will message companies and tell them lies about me so that end up with the companie blocking me on ig. I can’t believe that a big companie would listen to someone like that. So I quit using h&o and it’s sad because I am a horizontal planner and def would have bought a planner for 2025. But it really is sad because I love thier planners. I would think that a companie wouldn’t listen to the ramblings of a crazy person.

So true with those details! H & O really is shining bright for 2025 IMO!
