Hi Laura! Cheapest and easiest way to get rid of fungus gnats - mix 3 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide and use it as a drench to water plants. It usually will get rid of them in just two treatments. It kills the eggs in the soil and it also acts an an oxygenator for the plants/seedlings.
Can I use this mixture on succulents? I have a horrible infestation of gnats that came in the soil I bought and I have tired everything and nothing has worked to get rid of these little suckers 😊
@@wonderwonder30 in my experience, I only used it to water my plants once. It lasted over a year, then I started to see some again but it might have been from some new plants, so now I use the mix on any new plants that come in. Also consider treating any over-wintered plants that you put outside in the summer....
I ordered some geranium seeds last spring and didn't get to plant any. So....now that I know it's not too early to start them. I will do that now. Laura, you inspire me.
Budworms go after my snapdragons as well as petunias. I didn’t know they liked Geraniums too! I guess I’ll add that to my list to spray with bt next year.
The house plants are glorious! I have never started geraniums from seed in my 70 years of gardening. I’m on the hunt for seeds. Thanks Laura, you are always so encouraging and a treasure to us all.
It feels a bit weird to be planting seeds in November, but this whole year has been a bit weird (in a good way). Your house looks so nice and of course there is a “toy central” when you have two lovely little kids! Have a great day, everyone! 💚💚💚
I just realized while watching this today-these off season videos are what got me hooked on GA-I enjoy the content and the way you just chat and inform us on a wide variety of things! Love the in season videos showing the beauty too-but the off season vids are really enjoyable & come just when we are getting the blahs! So THANKS! 🌺👩🏼🌾🌻
Morning! Schismaglotis- yes you pronounced correctly! I spelled it wrong lol It is a Thirsty plant!!! The philodendron easy plant let it dry out before watering and it will eventually need a pole, it’s a climber ❤ I have over 200 house plants, I also love my outdoor gardens they are done for now it’s freezing up here in Maine! I love your channel always look forward to watching! Omg ❤Samantha was sooo cute in last episode, she did such a great job planting! I have a 4yro and she loves gardening as well! Have a great Thanksgiving!
I live my indoor seed starting life vicariously through you! I’d love to have the space and equipment to start seeds inside, and then the space to plant them out in my garden! Lol!! For now I’ll stick to winter sowing, which you taught me to do with great success! Such a satisfying process!
Beautiful living room! The tree is gorgeous! I love how the home has evolved over time, too. It's a great reminder that this is real life for you guys, too. ❤ to you all.
I know that you say every year that you don't like to show seed starting multiple times, but it really helped make me so much more comfortable to buy the necessary supplies and be successful with starting seeds inside. Thank you and I look forward to seeing many more seed starting videos. Could you possibly do some perennial seed starting videos? Your house looks beautiful, but I am really envious of the plants you have in your greenhouse!
I know this is kinda obvious but isn’t so cool that those little itty bitty seeds turn into beautiful wonderful flowers, nature is darn cool it just boggles the mind 😂

Good morning, Laura ☕️ So thankful Ken didn’t edit in music on this one. How exciting to seed start already 🙌🏻 I think I’m going to give it a try. The house plants 🪴 are gorgeous. Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈🐈
Hi, first I want to say, I LOVE, LOVE your channel, I get my Laura fix everyday!!! Question, I watch you start the seeds and every time your seeds grow perfectly, what in the HECK am I doing wrong? I can NEVER get my seeds to germinate, i have purchased a million dollars worth of seeds and NOTHING every time. I do exactly what you do and still nothing, I try and try all the time and end up having to buy expensive plants. When you say, "they are so easy to grow", I want to scream at the screen and Laura you are the seed princess of course they will grow for you!!! I am in zone 7b Upstate SC and yes, I follow Jeanie too and do everything she says to do and nothing!!! I have the greenhouse and everything, can you give a suggestion? Thanks from the broke gardener
I just love those gardener supply large trugs! They are so flexible and easy to dump. I even bought my sister one for Christmas last year. I have 4 in different sizes, so i can lift them full of soil!
I'm excited to see if all your seeds produce as they should 🌸 house just looks so pretty those lovely chairs the peachy orange chairs that you picked up at the antique store just turned out to suit your house in a very lovely way ❤ the tree is beautiful oh I'm excited now to put up our tree. So that was a beautiful color of your living room and added a moody coziness 🕊️
I need a knock off brand Hartley so I can fill it up and not worry about killing my house plants lol. Or succulents. Laura, everything I watch your videos I'm ready to go on a plant haul! I've never been this into or excited about them till you ❤
I am already using my grow lights for my coleus cuttings and love their color. I usually start Lisianthus mid January but plan to start some sooner. I have found that bumping them up really produces a larger plant to plant in April. Thanks for a fun video!
We move our summer potted plants & hanging baskets of Bougainvillea’s in our pool house each winter. We hung some grow lights from the ceiling and when necessary we turn on a space heater. They all stay looking beautiful! I even put a big pot of Sun Patients in their last year which is an annual & it almost lived through this summer too. Here in N. TX the temps have been below 25° the lady couple of years
Your home is incredibly beautiful. Laura, you are so talented. And, it is no small blessing that Aaron has his own gifts and talents. He contributes to the healthy atmosphere of your home + business. We know, no one is perfect. But the way you all thrive is a tell of the common, virtuous values of love and tolerance you each work on.
Love the new house plants. The schimatoglottis is a real deva plant. It will go from fully erect to flat and looking dead within a day. Don't worry, just water and she'll come right back. If you're having to water much to often, try taking it out of the terra cotta and put into a self watering pot as they work great for these. That Philo is awsome and has great variegation; congrats on a great find. Happy planting!!!
Laura, A tip to make your house plants happy is to water them with your leftover water after steaming your vegetables. Previous winters my plants would stay alive but they were limping by springtime. I was amazed at how vigorousmy my plants were after overwintering. All the plants were in the same amount of light and the same amount of water. The only thing that changed was the veggi water. Come spring they were just as big or bigger than they were the previous autum.
Love those house plants, I love having them but we winter in Florida, so i only have three which my granddaughter keeps a live for me while we are gone. Enjoy them Laura.
Great video today! Looking forward to hearing about seeds coming up! The potted plants were so glorious, and looked so nice in the house! This whole video made me very happy!❤❤❤
I had one of the schimattoglottis and it was the pickiest plant about water I’ve ever had. It would crisp up and lose leaves if it wasn’t watered almost every day. I eventually just got rid of it. They are beautiful though.
Laura like every morning I watch your videos. I normally watch them twice because I’m such a new gardener that I miss something and I know you are just Vast with knowledge. I think I understand why I am so intrigued with watching your videos not only for the knowledge and the beauty of your garden, and the love that you and Aaron each other and your your children and everybody around you but it’s I’m a very detail oriented person. I’d like to have all the items I need for a project or a report that I’m writing or when I’m cleaning I want to have the correct items to clean with and tools, and for me when I go to garden, it’s an all day affair at the garden store and the tools and fertilizer you always have right at your fingertips and I find that so intriguing. I love you love that. when I can’t afford it, I love to stock up on pots and dirt and Landon see fertilizer. I just love seeing when you show your storage of pots or your seeds trays or your tools of your trade. It just intrigues me thank you just one more reason why I love watching your videos. Have a great day. Have an amazing Thanksgivingfrom your girl in Philly
Can't believe seed starting has begun...I'll be outside mowing and raking up some leaves 🤷I save for warmer days we have two 50ish days this week so I'll be on it! 🤪
Swallowtail Seeds is offering free shipping on orders of $20 this week instead of their usual $60. I ordered geranium seeds and honey baby butternut squash seeds so I can make that dish thath looked so delicious. I garden in raised beds so I was delighted to see that the vines only grow 2-3 feet long. Baker Creek has a similar variety but the vines grown 7-8 feet long. I'm going to try to wait until January to start my geranium seeds. 😉
I’m a procrastinator too. I pulled my two pink geraniums out of the ground and potted them and brought them indoors late last Fall and I’ve never fertilized them so off to do that now!! Thanks for motivating me Laura. Going to try to deal with gnats as well.
This video was perfect timing for me! Your success with the red geraniums inspired me to buy some seeds. They came in the mail today, so I just finished planting them along with a few seeds of begonias. They are sitting on a heat mat and I sprinkled vermiculite on top. I’m praying all goes well.
Enjoyed the video.. a lot! It is very inspiring and a joy to see you plan for the next season already in NOVEMBER(!!) and show us how important and easy it is to just follow up on these little things that can be done during the fall and winter months… while I and many of us are feeling the fatigue that sets in clearing spent beds. Also on a side note.. thanks for clarifying about the budworm attack on your geraniums. I battled budworms last season on my new geraniums, annual salvias and snapdragons. I was shocked because my snaps were always clean before!
I tried something else for the gnats. 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide to 1 cup of water on a spray bottle and sprayed soil and the plant lightly It does work. Try it. It's much cheaper.
It’s awesome that you can start seeds in November a great head start . Your great room looks lovely especially your tree , have a wonderful day everyone!🌲🌲🌲
This past spring, I planted my Lisianthus seeds about a week after you did. Mine were much larger, half-full size when I planted them out in early May. I did pot them up into quart size pots, and they were in a sunny corner of my green-house.
Hello Laura Love your new house plants. I wanted to tell you I planted my Amarillo's a huge one, I added the branch canopy and I added light. Looks so pretty. Always thank you for your great ideas. Happy Thanksgiving to all at Garden Answer and Andrews Seed Co❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉.
i love those maverick geraniums.. i have some on my back patio, started from seed... they should be perennial for me here in my zone 10b (hopeful).. and yeah, i treat for budworm on all my geraniums and i have lots because they do well here in socal... silly little budworms... they meet cap'n jack early on in their little lives at my house... looks like a pleasant day, love those houseplants... any houseplant i bring in has to go "up high" so my old cat doesn't think they are a salad just for her... your room and Christmas tree look so warm and inviting!! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤
I love the lacy fern!😊 It's beautiful on the endtable. I agree that houseplants get ignored in summer, but I love them during our long Winter months. ❤
What crazy timing! I got out Lisianthus, Geraniums, and Violas to start early. I have 5 geranium plants I brought in from this year and they are GREAT. Love Swallowtail!! 🎉🎉🎉
Can’t wait until you start your house renovation, you guys have a big house! beautiful already, but I see so much potential, so much. Please allow us to be part of the process.
Thank you for yet another enjoyable video! Hard water patina on clay pots: do you know that people (me) pay good money for that kind of patina on their pots and your pots get that patina for free! LOL. Those new house plants (esp. that fern) give such a warm feel to your home for your Thanksgiving Celebration along with Christmas Trees, the family, and of course, Aaron's deep-fried turkey! Samantha is just such sooo adorable. You are truly blessed!
Just a tip Laura i have that fern it has grown really big and is beautiful im in Queensland Australia when you water it be careful not to let much water splash on the leaves just water the soil if too much water gets on the leaves they will go brown
Ugghhhh that living lace fern. I saw it at home depot and wanted it so bad but didn’t want to spend the money at the time. I’ve been thinking about it since! Of course it wasn’t there when I went back. I hope I find another one at the right time 💚
Can’t wait to see those pretty geraniums! I’ve enjoyed the i geraniums in the Hartley so much this summer. I don’t have the sun for them, so I enjoy them through you.
I find with lisianthus is that you must pot up and never let the roots become even a little bit root bound. Otherwise they stall, and this is why you see so much more growth as soon as they are planted in the ground.
@@Talula72 it's not about the leaves its about the roots. So it depends on how big the pot is. Just check every now and then to make sure the roots don't hit the sides of your pot.
Gnatrol is the best! It’s Bacillus Thuringiensis , the same ingredient that is in mosquito bits but much easier to use. I use it to control fungus gnats in my orchids. It’s harder to find the little 2 oz packets but worth the effort.
I love the fern & how you're displaying it! I also noticed your stack of garden books in the background. It got me wondering, could you share some of your favorite garden books? Thank you
I’m so excited that you’re starting geranium seeds. I was thinking of doing the same. Last year, I started them in late February, so they really didn’t take off until June. I wanted to get a jump start!
Thank you for taking us along as you plant new seeds. Seeing the new house plants in the house looks so refreshing. I love the color of the walls! The Christmas tree looks beautiful.
7:27 fungus, gnats what a pest. My trick for controlling them is to add some neem oil to the water when watering your plants. Works every time. Actually it’s the only way I got rid of them. ❤ Another trick when filling your every other cell in your tray. Because your cells are large, you could use a canning funnel to fill the cell.
Hi Laura I’m from New Zealand and have been following your amazing adventures in the garden for awhile. I just love that our timing works out almost opposite. This week I just got the last of my dahlia tubers planted just as you are packing yours away. It’s nice to be reminded of things to come and inspired when we are in the depths of winter. Now just as I am itching for things to get growing I’m hopeful you get to have some restful colder months and some time with that sweet family of yours. Question, do you deadhead your dahlias? I know you don’t pinch them but I’m wondering do you deadhead and do you notice a difference of you do?
I have a 'White Princess' philodendron and they do like a trellis or moss pole as they are a vining variety. I collect philodendrons and I have 35 different ones❤❤

@@wonderwonder30all plants like a little diluted peroxide.. it’s just hydrogen and oxygen with an extra molecule of each
Exactly what I was going to say! (Except I use a 4 to 1 mix)....works like a charm!
Should I use it every time I water until the infestation is gone? By the way, thank you for answering my questions 😜

Good Morning! 🦃 I can't believe it is seed starting time for next year! Wish I had a proper place to start seeds. I like those houseplants! 🙂🌱🌿
I love the lacy fern!😊 It's beautiful on the endtable. I agree that houseplants get ignored in summer, but I love them during our long Winter months. ❤
Your mom house is going to be amazing
Hey Laura that's a nice Christmas tree in the background.
Glad to see you feeling better Laura! You have a sparkle in your eyes again!💕
Good morning! Seed starting in late November, wow! Love the Christmas tree but a little too early for me. Enjoy!!
We need to do one holiday at a time. Don’t t wish you life away!
Just a tip Laura i have that fern it has grown really big and is beautiful im in Queensland Australia when you water it be careful not to let much water splash on the leaves just water the soil if too much water gets on the leaves they will go brown
Great instruction!
Thank you Laura. I would like to see how you remove the plants out of the trays wants their ready to be either potted or planted.
Ugghhhh that living lace fern. I saw it at home depot and wanted it so bad but didn’t want to spend the money at the time. I’ve been thinking about it since! Of course it wasn’t there when I went back. I hope I find another one at the right time 💚
Sounds great that your starting your seeds again I always enjoy starting seeds In the fall and winter I hope to get some started soon myself
Can’t wait to see those pretty geraniums! I’ve enjoyed the i geraniums in the Hartley so much this summer. I don’t have the sun for them, so I enjoy them through you.
Ha, should have waited. Thanks for sharing mister brand.
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day ❤🎄
I find with lisianthus is that you must pot up and never let the roots become even a little bit root bound. Otherwise they stall, and this is why you see so much more growth as soon as they are planted in the ground.
How many leaves before you pot up?
Thank you
I missed your fireplace mantle for Autumn - Just spectacular! You are so gifted!
Those philodendrons are really striking shades.
Thanks for showing us the seed planting. I’ve getting so excited.
Another trick when filling your every other cell in your tray. Because your cells are large, you could use a canning funnel to fill the cell.
The houseplants are gorgeous.
SOOOO BEAUTIFUL AND I 💕 YOUR HOUSE !!! 🥰🙌💥
