I find your breakdown of the gesture REALLY clear. I tried to understand it through a lot of other books and resources, but yours really helps me see how it's an integral part of figure drawing.
Also don't worry about making too many lists. If people don't like them, they can ignore them, but they are quite useful to others, such as me ;)
I hope you keep sharing your knowledge and make a lot more of these videos

If anyone's confused on where to place the thoracic or cervical gesture line (Right or left side), it's always on the weight bearing leg side. That's the pattern I've seen Hampton use.

After trying out different materials, I find that I'm always coming back to your explanations for gestures (and other things) because it is very versatile in doing different situations/poses. Also your book is like a condensed version of every fundamental lesson one needs to master which is why it is (for me) the best out there. Having said that we must carefully go over each topic and pause and think about it because its important/valuable as there are no fillers/nonsense in each chapter. Which is why I appreciate how you further explain it and even show us the process in your channel. Thank you so much!

This is an excellent explanation of the why and how of gesture drawings. I just bought your book, "Figure Drawing: Design and Invention" for use with my art students and myself, and I was hoping to find accompanying videos. I've read through about half of the book. Explanations are wonderfully clear, the color choices and design and printing and paper are just beautiful. I feel that the anatomy is well-simplified to prevent overwhelm. The sequence from gesture forward is also very effective. I look forward to more videos!

I'm late to the party, but I just got your book on figure drawing to see if I can apply it to 2D animation. I got a bunch of key frame animation books and realized I need to learn how to draw those pesky people lol. My career fell apart after moving to Japan and left me with little to look forward to professionally. I found my way back to art and into animation of all things. I suck at it, but it's really fulfilling and your book and especially these videos are helping me make sense of the chaos. Cheers to finding meaning in things that are enjoyable, but may not make money or change the world. Things don't always work out and it's important to learn that that's actually ok and oftentimes the most probable outcome. Our reaction makes it a gift or a curse.

I found your TH-cam channel when I started working through your figure drawing book a few days ago. Your instruction is amazing in both formats. I started drawing about a year ago and have struggled with the figure. I find a disconnect between what a lot of instructors teach and what the demonstrate. I wonder if their teaching simply becomes vague because they have to steer students away from the contours and they overcorrect. Regardless, your teaching is one of a kind. Thanks, man.
