If someone came to you with something worth 3k and only wanted 1.5, you'd give them what? 2,800 and make 200?! 🤔 Obv it sounds fair to offer 2.5k but he's still getting more than he wanted and matey is taking the risk, stolen or reselling difficulties.... 2k doesn't sound bad to me when he asked for 1.5. Matey could have gave him the 1.5 and he would have been a happy customer, it's partly on the seller to do research and being offered another 500 is quite generous when don't have to.
The way I see it is you earned 2 customers for life. Bro and Sis shopped around only to find out you were fair. And of course blessing the person an extra $400. accomplished the same thing. In all honesty it's probably even greater than that when they tell their friends, family, and coworkers how well they were treated.

its not $200 worth of Gold, 24K was around $75 per gram but the ring was 14K which is only 58% pure Gold so about $30-$40 per gram...at best its $100-$125 of Gold...she doesn't have to sell it, she can find someone else to buy it for more, right??

Those stores didn't last long, probably because between the ebay selling fees, then the fee that the store you brought it too, then the sales tax you paid you'd walk away with $20 on an item that sold for $100. I think most people realized they could bring it to their local pawn shop and get more for it than that.
