@Ladue11 Good question. You actually close all of the doors and just remain inside. There is no leaving the house...also, with the AC, we had to simply replace the filters and so far it has been working good.
I love the commentary! I watched it come in from my roof, and let me tell you, I was freaking out! Definitely Top 3 storm experiences I've ever witnessed.
I am in total awe. That was both amazing and scary all at once. I was on the west side while it was happening towards Avondale. Just crazy! Thanks for the footage!
@that1nigglet It actually did not rain where I was at, but good point. You would think that the rain would somehow "catch" the dust and turn it into mud somehow...
@WCGwkf Yes, I feel better about it now after seeing the pool with the cover off of it...it was worth putting the cover on because no dust settled on the bottom and no cleanup required AND it saved my pool pump.
Im in Surprise,AZ and it hit us just as hard as this video shows, and we are northwest of Phoenix.. just incredible,, 7000 feet high and over 50 miles wide traveling at 60+ MPH
lol nice video of it! i ended up randomly being in pheonix that day and i have never been in a dust storm before! crazy!!! lol oh and you whistle really good
@rkenshin0922 Yes, exactly...the only reason I knew it was coming was because I turned to the weather channel and saw the live coverage and was like, "I wonder if this is outside right now!" So, I ran outside and, bam, there is was right at my doorstep!
Wow dude quick upload and edit! Thanks neigboor I live there too lol. I saw it and I faced the storm head on, it was badass and i'll never forget. It'd be great to see on featured!
@trevhopp13 Good to hear you made it out safe. They say not to hit your brakes at all during it, which I guess makes sense. I have yet to experience it during driving and I hope I never do!
I was on lake Pleasant when this thing hit it caused massive waves on the water but it was pretty cool watching it roll in cause one minute it was nice calm water the next it was huge swells smashing against the side of out boat
@LovinLearnin We had a thunderstorm down in Tucson that fell apart. As T-storms in the summer Monsoon (seasonal wind shift) diminish, their outflows kick up dust. Powered by the heating over the desert, and fed with tropical moisture from Mexico, we can get some severe thunderstorms sometimes with hail. Straight-line winds can blow down a row of power poles, all falling in the same direction, versus a tornado with its swirling winds. Dew point over 55 degrees from this tropical moisture.
i have been in a few of these an this is everyones reaction because there is almost no wind till it hits you then your blasted by it so before it hits it calm and its hard not to be in awe of a 3 mile tall 50 mile wide ominous wall of darkness silently approaching
@TrailsofArizona So Arizona has not gotten enough rain this summer and is extra dry. A large rainstorm moves in, but because the Arizona earth is so dry the strong winds somehow bring up the sand with them maybe like a tornado picks up houses and cars and swirls them around with it. So the cause is over dryness, no rain...correct?
Ry, be safe out there man! Thanks for the video! Oh! 5,000 views. Wow! "Okay everybody, back up, back up... Nothing here but wind and sand, no free ice cream." :)
Me and my friend were walking home from the store and we were watching it get closer and closer, and then when it did seriously turn dark in about 30 seconds. We couldn't even see anything because there was so much dirt in our eyes.
@inglebear84 Actually the droughts ended this year in California, we had huge amounts of rain on record which got us out of drought from the previous 3 years. I hope every thing is ok for the people in Arizona, that dust cloud was crazy. Weather on the planet is so unpredictable.
It hit about somewhere about 6 or 7 pm and it left dust behind, allot, hour after i was driving and the cars where moving around in the dust that settled, and, it was kinda like foggy
that was insane! im from Calicornia but recently moved to chandler. i walked outside in the middle of it thinking it was fog...that is, untill i opened my mouth to talk and tasted the dirt! dows this happen often here during monsoon season ?
Hi, I live in San Luis Mex, this is right in the border with Arizona, this it's been hapening since july 2, the weather is crazy this days, last saturday I was in a night club in Mexicali and the power went off when we came out we couldn't see nothing, the air was like sand... it was kind of scary
@TrailsofArizona it must be an amazing experience but at the same time scary. if someone that didnt know what that is and saw that, they'd think it's the apocalypse! lol. thanks for sharing man!
i live on hunt and valvista which is right at the boarder of the indian reservation and i think we got the worst of it . and also our pools were complete mud
The air was rank and my eyes burned. I had to wash my eyes out with a wash cloth, and I never even ventured outside at that time. I guess I better change the air filter in the furnace and hose down the AC unit. It was 118 degrees just the other day, and before that we had a transformer fire that put us out of electricity for 9 hours from 2 PM till 11 PM in east Mesa.
it was crazy how it was day and then dark..i was actually driving when it was really dark.i had no idea what was happening.crazy..did this hit all arizona?
Thanks for posting! Can you tell me what it feels like? I'm guessing that it's like fine grains of sand blowing about? i hear a pitter pattering in all the videos people are posting.. and it's just wind and dust? nothing too harmful, right?
@BestofVideoGames Thanks, I pulled over when it go REALLY bad and the wind was so bad it pushed my car with breaks on so I kept going to my uncles house, it flipped a semi
It was crazy how it was day and as you said it turned to night basically, I was walking my dog and didn't even notice there was a dust storm... Let's say I found out the hard way
I live in south phoenix arizona i remember this dust storm lol this dude was driving next to me when it hit our area and his window wouldnt roll up lmao
fuck i live in north scottsdale and fell asleep after work and completely missed the entire thing. My entire backyard was grey when i woke up for a smoke and i thought i had gone into a coma and missed a war or some shit was nuts
I was at my computer when this happended, and the walls of my office (actually an Arizona room) are covered in Styrofoam so it always looks like its night here, so when my sister called I was sort of surprised.
How do you breath being engulfed in that? Seriously..... Also, I appreciate your commentary. So what...you repeat yourself a few times! When one is faced with an event of this magnitude, one tends to be overcome with emotion vs. logic, and loses the ability to report like a news anchor. You were in awe by this. I understand!
@Ladue11 Good question. You actually close all of the doors and just remain inside. There is no leaving the house...also, with the AC, we had to simply replace the filters and so far it has been working good.
Ryan, you captured some amazing footage here..Congrats on catching one of the largest dust storms ive ever seen and getting it on youtube so quickly!
I love the commentary! I watched it come in from my roof, and let me tell you, I was freaking out! Definitely Top 3 storm experiences I've ever witnessed.

Trails, you did a great job of recording this. Best footage I've seen yet.
Proud to say i was apart of this :) Also of the 4 other ones that occurred throughout the summer
@WCGwkf Yes, I feel better about it now after seeing the pool with the cover off of it...it was worth putting the cover on because no dust settled on the bottom and no cleanup required AND it saved my pool pump.
Im moving to Pheonix in a month! I cannot freakn wait to experience this in person! Thank you for sharing!
Great recording, thanks for sharing!
that was the best dust storm video ever
Im in Surprise,AZ and it hit us just as hard as this video shows, and we are northwest of Phoenix.. just incredible,, 7000 feet high and over 50 miles wide traveling at 60+ MPH
My brother showed me this. He lives in Tempe. Great vid man. That's crazy.
Thanks for posting the video.
Unbelievable! Nice job with the camera work. Hope all was intact afterwards. Thanks for sharing.
@TrailsofArizona Welcome and thanks for the upload!

Great Clip!!!! Got hammered up in the North part of the city too!!!!!
Amazing footage thank you!
Tucson pounded by an amazing monsoon, and Phoenix hit with the biggest duststorm yet. Good start to the monsoon season i'd say.
@TrailsofArizona I understand it now, like a pre storm dust surge. Really apprecieate your video and education!!!!!!
Nature does some strange things. Very Good Video !! Thanks for Sharing !!
Frankie from Carrollton Georgia
this is an Awesome video, than you so much for sharing, never been through or seen one of these Dust Storms, I was as nervous as you, this is scarey.
I was on lake Pleasant when this thing hit it caused massive waves on the water but it was pretty cool watching it roll in cause one minute it was nice calm water the next it was huge swells smashing against the side of out boat

I'm in Gilbert, too. You made a great clip of this.

@TrailsofArizona So Arizona has not gotten enough rain this summer and is extra dry. You got a very good hand for taping. Good shots of the dust storm. Thumbs up
great video ryan!
Great footage! I've been through one in Texas, but it was minor compared to this one.
Me and my friend were walking home from the store and we were watching it get closer and closer, and then when it did seriously turn dark in about 30 seconds. We couldn't even see anything because there was so much dirt in our eyes.
Yes... dusty...
For some reason, I love hearing wind chimes in the storms. I also live in AZ.
:)
I had a bad dust storm at my house northwest of Tucson. Is it by any chance if this the same one that gotton bigger going up I-10?
nice broadcast, niceley covered. Thanks for the vid.

I saw that dust storm on the plane, and when i got outside i could hardly see a thing ! !
@TrailsofArizona it must be an amazing experience but at the same time scary. if someone that didnt know what that is and saw that, they'd think it's the apocalypse! lol. thanks for sharing man!
Pretty amazing, looks like the end of the world coming. Have you been finding sand in everything since? Nice vid.
Great video! Amazing
does that happen all the time each year or is that the first time... that is freakish!!!!
it's like the dust bowl all over again...
monsoon season is so cool
awesome video. much time did you spend cleaning up the dust afterwards?
@TrailsofArizona well in south phoenix we got heavy rain for about 10 to 30 minutes right after the dust
i live on hunt and valvista which is right at the boarder of the indian reservation and i think we got the worst of it . and also our pools were complete mud
Great video! Thanks for sharing :)

Partial transcription: "Massive dust storm. Coming towards us. Holy cow. *whistles* Wow. It is huge. Heading our way. The sign of a monsoon. Wow. First big dust storm. *whistles* [...] It's heading our way. Wow. *whistles* Absolutely incredible. Oh boy, it's coming fast now. Oh boy. Oh it's moving fast now.
it sounds like a thunderstorm. that wind looked very strong,
Biggest dust storm we've ever had, I was right in the east valley when it hit at about 8 o clock pm
Thanks for posting! Can you tell me what it feels like? I'm guessing that it's like fine grains of sand blowing about? i hear a pitter pattering in all the videos people are posting.. and it's just wind and dust? nothing too harmful, right?
I was hanging out in my garage watching it as well... I must live right around the corner from you....lol....
I was at paradise valley skatepark when this happened. It was cool to watch.
@BestofVideoGames Thanks, I pulled over when it go REALLY bad and the wind was so bad it pushed my car with breaks on so I kept going to my uncles house, it flipped a semi
What a beautiful neighborhood
It was crazy how it was day and as you said it turned to night basically, I was walking my dog and didn't even notice there was a dust storm... Let's say I found out the hard way
This was the biggest dust storm I've ever seen. My entire house was filling with dust because a window was open
I live in south phoenix arizona i remember this dust storm lol this dude was driving next to me when it hit our area and his window wouldnt roll up lmao
Very nice job!
Wow.. that is CRAZY!!!! I bet little kids were freaking out.
fuck i live in north scottsdale and fell asleep after work and completely missed the entire thing. My entire backyard was grey when i woke up for a smoke and i thought i had gone into a coma and missed a war or some shit was nuts

wow imagine the world turns night in less than 10 minutes and will be day again several hours or days later
we got the rain and dust cloud in Scottsdale
when it hit us it went dark so fast, we lost power in Greenway parts so badass lol
I was at my computer when this happended, and the walls of my office (actually an Arizona room) are covered in Styrofoam so it always looks like its night here, so when my sister called I was sort of surprised.
I love this guy's commentary. xD
AMAZING!
What was this shot with, and how did you stabilize the footage? Nicely shot...
@TrailsofArizona I'm pretty sure it was on the weather channel as well :)
He actually wasn't whistling... Those were bursts of winds passing through. That's how the camera mic picked it up.
How long were you in it for? Great footage.
@BestofVideoGames
Isn't it had to breathe though with all that dust around?
Good video...Thank you...
dam thats like the dust bowl back in the day
Man, what a mess! Looks awesome, though.
Does anybody know how far it went, and when it settled down?
