Der 1. FC Köln (vollständiger Name: 1. Fußball-Club Köln 01/07 e. V.) ist mit ca. 55.720[1] Mitgliedern der größte Sportverein in Köln.
Der Klub entstand am 13. Februar 1948 aus dem Zusammenschluss der beiden Fußballvereine Kölner BC 01 und SpVgg Sülz 07. Ziel dieses Zusammenschlusses war es, für die Stadt Köln einen aus sportlicher sowie wirtschaftlicher Sicht attraktiven Verein zu schaffen. Das Gründungsmitglied der Bundesliga hielt sich bis zum Abstieg 1998 35 Jahre ununterbrochen in der höchsten deutschen Spielklasse und spielt in der Saison 2012/13 nach insgesamt fünf Abstiegen wieder in der 2. Bundesliga. Der 1. FC Köln bekleidet den siebten Platz in der ewigen Tabelle der Bundesliga.
Seit März 2002 ist der Profifußballbereich (Erste Mannschaft, U21, U19 und U17) als 1. FC Köln GmbH & Co. KGaA ausgegliedert, in der der Verein das alleinige Stimmrecht besitzt.

The club's nickname Die Geißböcke ("The Billy Goats") refers to the club's mascot, a male goat named Hennes after the veteran FC player and (later) manager Hennes Weisweiler. The first Hennes was donated by a circus entrepreneur as a Cologne carnival joke. Currently (since 24 July 2008) the eighth Hennes is the acting mascot. Another nickname, more common locally due to its ambiguity, is FC, a common German abbreviation for football clubs. Characteristic for the dialect spoken around Cologne, this is pronounced "EF-tsay", in contrast to the high language pronunciation of the abbreviation where the emphasis is on the "C".
Like many of Germany's other professional football clubs, 1. FC Köln is part of a larger sports club that also incorporates departments playing other sports, in this case handball, table tennis and gymnastics. The club's main rivals are Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen, and Fortuna Düsseldorf -- all clubs from the same general region, near the river Rhine. - กีฬา
