The detailed work in the flesh tones (and around the eyes) is astonishing. I could practice for years and I'd never master that. Well any of it to be honest.
As an old teacher used to say : "If you want your paintings to glow, be mindful of your greys". Your use of them is masterful, as is everything else :). Thank you for sharing your technique.
@@imacmill I'm learning to draw and the first time I learned this trick of making eyes look realistic, I was blown away myself and I still don't quite understand it fully. You add that highlight and suddenly it looks like a film of transparent liquid is over the eye. A similar thing happens when you learn to draw water droplets.
In a world dominated by quickly taken pictures expressing them as art; this stands out even more. This is what true art really is. lovely, truly really loved this. craftsmanship.
Wow. It was really fantastic to watch you paint this piece. There are really know words to say how incredibly talented you are. I will definitely watch more of your beautiful work 👏😍💖💯
I'm confused, how can u only get 6k view while some cringe tiktokers having millions of views by doing pranks. I glad to discover your channel, I probably never seen that much realism in a paint. Thank you for this video and keep the nice work !
This says more about the TikTokkers than about Scott Waddel's work. You have to accept this that most of us never bother to understand the better things.
being creful with transitions gives the smooth impression . lots of nuetral colors rather than sharp cool or warm .this is part of trick . 2nd most important point it using small brushes
Many instructors say hold the brush at its end, and use a minimum amount of strokes. Interesting. In your approach you seem to go directly into detail.
it feels too smooth and lacks texture and rhythm. it is also one of the less skill-required ways to paint a painting. Still gave a like tho, good nuance in the skin tones
@@lastbot7383 I find your comment really interesting. Can you explain and elaborate on "it's the least skill-required way to paint"? What would be a more skilled way?
@@kalilavalezina first of all there are different ways to paint a painting. You can do wet on wet like Sargent or you can do glazing like Bouguereau. I for a bit dislike some hyperrealistic styles where you get a big canvas and do a pixel-by-pixel copy (disclaimer I do not dislike this artist), because it is first easy to do unlike many people say, and second because of this painted process it lacks painterly quality or aesthetics. I like this artist's work in general, but I do not like this particular style which I think is overrated on the internet like those hyperrealistic charcoal drawings you see on social medias.
He blends very specific colors that are already related to each other by design, and mixed on the palette in advance, then blended very carefully on the canvas.
Don't know if mr. Waddell has any other tips, but for me, linseed oil, walnut alkyd and liquin, mixed with the oil paint, usually does the job... At least overnight in a cool environment... To my limited knowledge there is no alternative, if you want a quality result that will last. :) Pro Tip : "Take your time"

Every spect of paint is so precise like the tiny dots of white which make the eyes so real, like a tear could drop from them...

Reason for mixing properly... Just Truly PAINT what ya SEE!... Forget the rest till its necessary.... Be well all
Your understanding of color and values is amazing.✨
The detail, blending and highlights are exquisite! How one small dot of white puts moisture into the eye is breathtaking
You should check Carl kronberger portraits, he was 19th century painter and you'll like the details considering they were made like 150 years ago
Ha, I was transfixed by the very same thing. A single dot of white put the full realism into that eye (in my eye).

I have watched many many people paint portraits on TH-cam BUT you are by far the BEST. Wow what an incredible painting
Cesar Santos, Mark Carder and a couple others are this good as well. Probably some more but these are the only ones ive seen so far.
The subtlety of your transitions are impeccable. Unbelievable technique!!

The thumbnail made it look like this was painted on a tree, I was like how did they make it look so smooth.
That's what I thought too
His canvas is very smooth, he explained it in a video I think

Nice job, I usually don't like the blended look as much as I like the john singer Sargent style but this is done very well

The only thing that came to mind was, "Why are you painting on that poor old man's eyeball?"
Wow nice work! I paint in layers, but recently I've been wanting to paint like this without have to constantly wait for paint to dry.
Yeah, tell me how is that possible, if I try to do it in one layer I mess up badly
