I started as 14 yrs old, but left at 20, now I'm 50 and going back to painting. You're a great inspiration and learning over from a master like you is very enjoyable. You brought back my urge for painting. Thanks.
Amazing! I’m a 17 year old aspiring artist, and Andrew’s works always inspire me to become better. I’ve already seen DRAMATIC improvement in my art, and a large portion of this improvement has been because of your informative videos. Thank you, Andrew!
I agree, no one can figure out how much improvement there's been in my paintings here after this past year. I say, "I took some really good online courses and tutorials, and watched some amazing teachers everyday." I am so greatful for all that Andrew has taught and instilled in me.
Keep practicing…my uncle decided to start drawing out of nowhere after 48 years and never indulged in drawing at all zero..he picked up a pencil and started messing around and after a couple years he was able to draw portraits..also I’ll add that he did get sentenced to prison and had all day to practice..but the point I’m making is anyone can that really puts in that work..
I really appreciate this portrait you've done. Can see the love you have for the Māori Culture and people by just looking at the patience and attention to detail you had for painting this. My wife had two ancestors that had their portraits painted, one by Charles Goldie and the other by Gottfried Lindauer. Both portraits are hanging in Te Papa. Your paintings will last many lifetimes.
EVERYONE! GET THE PORTRAIT COURSE! I have been painting for years and I just purchased the course from Andrew. Took a few weeks but TOTALLY WORTH IT!! Learned more about portraits in his course than I Did with Years of College painting classes. thank you So much Andrew. I Love the Course and would love to see more.
I’m trying to think of a compliment that isn’t filled with a long list of expletives to describe my amazement. I’m so glad to have discovered your channel, Andrew. It fills a void of inspiration in my life that I didn’t know was missing. Thank you.
I cannot understand how that level of detail can get translated and past into your hands, that level of detail is astonishing, I am most definitely in absolute awe
My great friend, you are much to young to have the mad skills that you possess. I don't think of you in any other way that a modern day master at what you do. You astound me with every painting. Having seen them up close and personal in your studio made it even better. You make me want to be a better artist, even at age 74.
Perfection is the name of his art... his work is magnificent and impeccable. I could never say that it is a canvas, so much identification with the image in the photo. Congratulations!!
Magnificent portrait. It's a real joy to watch a Master Painter at work. I know I shouldn't call it work when it's a passion, but all the same what a pleasure.
I am a 71 year old aspiring artist - see Caleb Avila's comment below! I haven't tried any portraits yet but I have watched many of your videos Andrew. You are a genius. What AMAZING technique, what beautiful results.Thank you for all your generous tips and instructions.
Wow.. I didn't know paintings could reach this level of realism. I just started painting landscapes and stuff about a week ago... This really makes me want to learn how to paint portraits. Immaculate work man.
I have often heard said that artists can only do their best in either portraiture or landscape but never both. You bust this myth right out of the water. There is what I call the " Goldie Standard" which very few artists meet. But I'm sure many will agree with me that you have more than met this Goldie standard. Just Awesome. Thankyou for lovingly and respectfully capturing the true face of an awesome native noble Maori man immortalised for future generations to admire and inspire.
Splendid portrait Andrew. I especially was captivated by how you were able to lay down the crisp dark passages for the tattoo over wet paint. I find I get mud and struggle to get sharp dark marks over a wet base. The tip about reloading often is key to remember. Beautifully painted.
Love this painting. Maybe some day you could paint today's native Americans. Starting with the east coast. People need to know they are not gone. You have a great gift which gives you a great voice.
I love than you not only paint or explain sections mixed with moments of silence. No, you really share your knowledge by talking the whole 20 mins in great detail! Thank you!
I find myself throughout the video holding my breath whilst you paint stroke for stroke... its amazing how ''easily'' you work with a portrait and am constantly encouraged to continue to follow and learn because of your very clear explanation of technique . I agree with many of the comments below, you are an astounding ''young'' artist , and how blessed I am to take part in the course! Thanks ever so much Andrew !!👌🌷🎨
Wow.... I'm watching this painting take shape and every couple of minutes or a slight time jump, I find myself saying "Wow" and chuckle to myself with complete admiration for your brush skills. I have only done portraits in a Carbon pencil medium and have found my favourite part of the drawing is when I use a putty rubber to make a white eye highlight....this brings the face to life.... I have to say though, while I'm happy with my results, your work with a much harder to manage medium like Oils (For me anyway) is light years ahead. This painting is worthy of anyones wall, even if you didn't know Tuhoe. Please don't take this as critism, just an observation.... I think the mouth in the painting is ever so slightly at the wrong angle stemming back to your construction lines. If you didn't know him, you wouldn't know though..... Lovely work....👍
You're great Andrew! One can learn so much from you. You're my inspiration. I haven't paint for the past three months. I realized I was giving up....! I'm 74 years old and have been painting since I was thirteen, but been a single mother took me a while to realize that painting was my passion. I work very hard raising my child, at times felt like giving up. But deep in my heart I knew, and know I shouldn't give up even if there's a pandemic and a thread of a world war lll and nuclear blast to destroy our planet inhabitants. An artist is the future continuation of life moments never ever to be lost. Someone in the future will see what our lives were like and the struggles we went through. Catch the moment in time which will never be repeated to bring to the future generations. I think would be a great message. Thank you for sharing your talent and skills 🙂😊
Wow this the most amazing portrait painting I have ever seen , I love this painting the Combination of color and the way of using the Brush is absolutely amazing I really injoing when I see your painting
What a great thing to hear also about Tuhoe!!! Thanks for sitting for Andrew too!! what a great portrait it turned out to be!!! God blessyou always ! may you continue to share what God has done in your life.. I've ordered the book! Thanks Andrew! 🎶🌷🙏
*_WONDROUS-!!_* Great subject matter. You could see each and every day in Tuhoe's eyes. Andrew, your mastery of bruised and battered brushes is like the life Tuhoe ... and yet, the brushes, like Tuhoe, are still standing tall. BRAVO-!! D.A. (a fan and artist)
All who are aware of what is in the art world today, in Andrew Tischler we have a modern master. A term one might use only after a long passage of time and reserved for but a few. Tischler does not need this, he is a master of his craft here and now. History will in time rank you high with the masters of old Andrew, I believe this.
This is phenomenal! Your techniques are so effective and your explanation of applying the paint is magic. Inspires me to have a go, oils offer so many different approaches and the results are amazing !
This is good timing. I am painting a silver haired lady I dreamt of some years ago and your work will help me to remember the technique as I'm working, since I have no visual reference for her specifically. Bravo on the explanations, btw. God bless, brother.
This is the most amazing painting I have ever seen! You are a miracle yourself to capture this man and give him life onto the canvas, I could imagine he was breathing! How many years you must have taken to reach the level that you are at now! Thank you for posting part of your life!
Your creative process reminds me of a live demonstration by Steven Assael about 20 years ago. It was like watching a conductor with a full orchestra in motion. All my senses came alive. Remarkable. Now that I’m close to retirement, it is time to revisit the theory of oil painting. Thanks for providing access to your approach. Thanks for also providing a range of complexions from the human family.
Hello from Canada! I absolutely love your art, from beginning to end. I am just about to retire and have started to learn the basics. Your videos teach me so much. Thanks for sharing your talent and time.
Loved your old Studio Andrew , with your own Gallery space, truly an Artists dream ... I hope your Business did not get affected too much by the current circumstances.
A must for any artist's resource library. I have learnt so much and the presentation and information is so well presented I'm amazed at Andrew's skills. It makes me want to paint all day or even grab a wine and enjoy the videos.
You have an incredible mastery at seeing the subject and copying its exactness to canvas. What is more important, you have excelled in your paint mixing where most painters fail, especially if you're doing realist art. That's why I stick with impressionist painting due to it's very broad and forgiving paint mixing hues and application. Mistakes are easier to remedy and colours can be changed to set the mood. That said, I congratulate you for powerful realism paintings and thank you for sharing.
I just ordered the book DIRECTLY after watching this video. This is my first time seeing you and I’m BLOWN AWAY and FASCINATED by how well you do your thing. Thanks for sharing this with us man. You seem to be a really solid guy and a phenomenal talent. Cheers from Ontario Canada.
Fascinating video, incredible portrait and subject. I met Tuhoe about 10 years ago on the streets here in Tauranga, he has lead an interesting life by any stretch of the imagination.
solid dude, I've been painting acrylics for about 12 years, never got into oils due to the drying time and oil types and concentrations and cracking etc, but your process on spot on man. You give good valuable advice for beginners and that's important in a tutorial. smashed it.
I just watched again the section one of the full tutorial. I am so glad I got the full tutorial. I get to learn something new every time I watch it. Thanks again for this amazing detailed workshop. By the way anytime I watch any of your tutorials, and you finish your block-in, I always think you should say ”that’s how you paint alla-prima loose painting”, let’s continue for a hyper realistic painting. I am always amazed on how beautiful your block-ins are 🤩
Love the view windows bright room .... Great realistic features in his face, which appears younger, than your painting by 20 years🖼and his white background with tools on table is more true to his life, which also makes his face larger in reality, than background you chose. Thanks for the history lesson and great to see his face reflects his conversion in deeply profound humility ⚖️
Magnificent. Its so lifelike. It brings me onto the question, who is considered to be the best portrait artist currently alive ? I really cant imagine anything being better than this.
Absolutely amazing! The realism is breathtakingly wonderful. I envy those with even a shred of artistic talent because I can't draw, sketch, paint, or even color inside the damn lines! I can't get through a chapter of any book I ever attempted to read either and I have tried. Both these abilities would have been a blessing at certain points in my life when I had months and months of time to serve and absolutely no capacity to go anywhere other than where I was placed.
I think you done right by the sitter in this portrait. You showed great respect for the subject matter and it shows in your work. That was truly an awesome portrait, you have great talent my friend. Cheers!
Ummmm, this was some delicious painting! I was hanging on your every word and I learned so much! It came out fantastically! I now know why this was one of your favorite portraits. Just stunning!
Not surprising, you did it again! Absolutely brilliant! Love, love, love it! Amazing, how anybody could capture a portrait with such beauty as you have! Thank you for your close-up demonstration. Amazingly helpful. You're character with such confidence, you show no jealousy and no selfishness with your talent and knowledge fantastic. A non boastful person, very few and in-between if any. I admire you as a human being! Thank you. God bless you, and your career.
Congratulations to You & Rachel, & Welcome Hugo!! Glad you are getting back into the swing of teaching and videos, Thank You! Hope we get to see your new studios eventually. Blessings on your new home and lives. Peace
Wow. Why this video has only 269k views? Such talent must have at least 50M views per video. I'm a 48 year old architect, and I cannot do even 1% of what you are doing. It makes me depressed about my limitation but so impressed as well by your awesome talent.. Thank God that there are experts like you sir.
Wow! I think this is your best portrait video yet, by far. Showing the Loomis base structure to align things despite the head tilt was great. I do the lower division into thirds to find the mouth, but I hadn't seen the middle division divided up before; this will really help my eye placement. Your patience and care in the mid-tone stage set up your highlights so beautifully... and this is only improved further by a great narrated demo of how to do sparing fine details to achieve the high realism economically and in a way that doesn't overload the viewer. (And, in fact, challenges them a bit subconsciously, which only draws them in more). So well done, both on the work as well as the instruction. Cheers!
What a beautiful story of Tuhoe. I had to go check out his website. You captured how God has changed his life in the humility and peace in Tuhoe's eyes. Thanks for sharing this!
You are so humble, we thank for sharing your knowledge with us.I hope you also love paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, Baburao Painter, S.M.Pandit, Artist Dhurandhar, and Artist Hemen Mazumdar from India.
wow amazing. when i see the result put up agains his picture i thinks he got a bit short necked but wow thank you for teaching us how to paint better. cause its amazing!
I would love to see this channel upload glorious 4K/60fps for the best illustration on hi-res monitors! Amazing skill, you are a true master of your craft!
I started as 14 yrs old, but left at 20, now I'm 50 and going back to painting.
You're a great inspiration and learning over from a master like you is very enjoyable.

As I said before, your videos and a few other’s, gave me the courage to learn oil portrait painting at 53. You are the man Andrew.

I agree! He's definitely a master
I totally agree with your statement I want to be a better painting and your seventies. You're not the Lone Ranger. LOL
Perfection is the name of his art... his work is magnificent and impeccable. I could never say that it is a canvas, so much identification with the image in the photo. Congratulations!!
dude this is not possible
you have to born gifted with this talent

never ever seen something this realistic !
Magnificent portrait. It's a real joy to watch a Master Painter at work. I know I shouldn't call it work when it's a passion, but all the same what a pleasure.
When Portrait Painting is better then the original pic. It outstand human nature. Absolutely good work.
Fantastic portrait. You've done Goldie proud.

One of the reasons I see you as one of my mentors is that you draw your subjects free hand!
You're observation about sprinkling detail in an ocean of noise is extremely insightful, it's insane that our brain do a lot of the heavy lifting.
This painting made me shed a little tear for real. It's that beautiful. I'm speechless
Love this painting. Maybe some day you could paint today's native Americans. Starting with the east coast. People need to know they are not gone. You have a great gift which gives you a great voice.

Thanks Karen, I'm glad you find the videos informative and thanks for the "young" comment too. That makes me feel better! 😂
That's some insane art skills .
Breathtaking. I can't believe how good that looks, and I have seen it so many times in your videos. I should know better than to be surprised.
Your name will be listed among the masters. I am amazed each and every time I watch your videos. Thank you for sharing this great gift.

Truly a master painter. ❤
Tuhoes portrait speaks volumes of a well traveled man. Big fan, Andrew. Continued success.
*_WONDROUS-!!_* Great subject matter. You could see each and every day in Tuhoe's eyes.
Andrew, your mastery of bruised and battered brushes is like the life Tuhoe ... and yet, the brushes, like Tuhoe, are still standing tall. BRAVO-!!

dude sirrr you are a magiciannn. It is so magical how each progress in the process makes the image even more beautiful each time.
So awesome I just ordered your brushes and I built a pallet table thank you so much for your giving back to all artist
Truly an amazing portrait, Andrew, you captured Tuhoe's essence in this painting and that is a rare gift and skill to cherish. Thank you for sharing.
I'm lost for words..you have the talent of the Masters...unbelievable..it's like they are going to turn and speak.

Hey Grace! Thanks for the feedback, I'm so glad you enjoy watching my videos!
This guy is too humble his paintings are more off the charts and life like than the famous painter he describes....
Stunning as usual, thanks for vid. Lovely light in new space. Congrats again to you and rachel on your newborn baby, blessings from the kalahari
Kalahari sounds like an incredible place! Thanks for watching Jinjah!
@@AndrewTischlerArt kalahari is a magical place, clearest light, hardly any moisture in air. Thank you
Loved your old Studio Andrew , with your own Gallery space, truly an Artists dream ... I hope your Business did not get affected too much by the current circumstances.
this guy is really good and so knowledgeable and great at explaining his concepts
You are just as great as Goldie..amazing painting..very real..all the skin textures and colouring... I think he s sitting right there
A must for any artist's resource library. I have learnt so much and the presentation and information is so well presented I'm amazed at Andrew's skills. It makes me want to paint all day or even grab a wine and enjoy the videos.
Just from the intro I can tell this guy's got unbelievable talent. Can't wait to see the rest of the video.

Cheers from Ontario Canada.
This is pure art ! A talent that cant be put into words
Fascinating video, incredible portrait and subject. I met Tuhoe about 10 years ago on the streets here in Tauranga, he has lead an interesting life by any stretch of the imagination.
You are an amazing artist the painting looks like a photo, it’s so realistic and I enjoyed your work, keep it up.
Oosh, Isaac Tuhoe is a legend! Glad that you added his links in with your painting.
A portrait that is just waiting to TALK; and about to come to life! Wow!
solid dude, I've been painting acrylics for about 12 years, never got into oils due to the drying time and oil types and concentrations and cracking etc, but your process on spot on man.
I am always amazed on how beautiful your block-ins are 🤩
Well done Andrew, good to have You back again.
Have Mercy! You really bring his portrait to life.
