But I believe they would still be in sunken place.
My husband and I saw this movie in theaters on its opening weekend. The whole audience (us included) were deeply drawn in and emotionally invested to the point where most people were audibly reacting to certain moments. The strongest reaction came near the end when the red and blue lights appeared just as Chris was choking Rose. The whole theater erupted in anguished groans and cries of "NOOOOOO!" Then when Rod appeared, the reaction instantly transformed into cheers and applause. I think that speaks to the power of this film. When Chris escaped at the end, it really felt like a triumph we had all witnessed.
Bro I was so scared for him when the police pulled up cus I already knew how it would end, but then finding out it’s his bestfriend (who made me laugh throughout all the scenes he was in) made me so happy.
when u think about it the grandpa in the black guys head became the passenger after the flash from the phone so he had to watch his grand daughter die awesome justice
@jamey smith i know and the old white guy that was controlling him became passenger after the flash or do you mean he fully gained control and the old white guy in his head became obsolete
@jamey smith worded the wrong do u mean the old white guy in his head became obsolete completely after he gained control of himself again from being flashed
I remember this so clearly, the audience applauding and cheering and Rod stepped out the car and everyone howling in laughter when Rod delivered that punchline, it’s almost magical…
Understanding the Swahili song at the end makes everything sooo creepy and yet insightful, it says "listen to your ancestors" and "run.. you are running far away "
If Chris is ok with it, he could let his friend do the hypnosis and see Chris first hand paralyzed in Sudden Darkness. Or that sounds like a horrible idea which Chris should never experience again and they go see a therapist.
I remember that very well too. Most of the audience stood up and cheered so loud I couldn't hear the ending.. neither did they but all clapped so hard our hands were blistering
Emily Andrews You know that’s not how you get people to reply they probably won’t see your comment and the way you phrased it wasn’t what he said which obviously wouldn’t make it seem funny
@@risingsun_gt, yes. I've heard of irony. I've mentioned this in comment sections in different videos: is Rod really going to pass that kind of judgment on someone who had their heart broken?
He wasn’t even gonna kill her. He just wanted to see the truth and when he did, he saw her truth. When he let her live, she physically couldn’t lie to him anymore since she showed him her true face. That she chose to be 100% rotten to the core. Full of hatred and she was proud of the damage she’d caused to Chris, her victim. And that set him free from the relationship. And he stopped being a victim to the relationship, for good. just saying.
That's one way of looking at it I guess, I thought Chris took pity on her (on a "you're pathetic" sort of way ) and let her die of blood lose. Either way am glad she dead
Yeah, like a guy of any other race can choke unarmed, injured person to death. Without any legal consequences. If you try to kill unarmed person, especially the one posessing no threat to you at the moment - you aren't victim.
Whenever someone says they’re afraid to fall in love again due to previous experiences, they got nothing on Chris😂 he’s not gon be able to date for a bit
This revenge ark is a lot deeper than most might think. Rose has been deceiving black men for the purpose of these procedures for some time. Thanks to Chris, one of her victims finally surfaced to their previous mindset; and he is able to exact HIS revenge for what she had successfully done to him. Chris didn't need to be the one to take the shot.
No. So many people got it wrong. He choked her hard but couldn't keep on doing it. His grip loosened which was felt by rose and she knew she 'had' him in her love trap. That's why she smiled, at her 'power'.
@@chaitanyagupta6668 I see it as him not letting her manipulative "I love you" gaslighting stop him from choking her. When she then smiles to reveal her fucked up nature again he stops as he is now reassured that she is evil, and leaving her to slowly die on the road by choice mirrors his trauma from his mothers death (which is also reference earlier when they hit the deer with the car, reminding him of his guilt to what happened to his mother). He no longer feels guilt abut abandoning someone to die on the road, nor does he feel the need to make himself a murderer just to avoid it.
she’d “trained” Chris to love her when she smiled at him. So she smiled when he was choking her, to trigger his involuntary reaction to treat her gently.
Sad thing is there won’t be another movie like this for a long time. Edit: March 2022- love starting these controversial debates, at the end you realize we all not so different.
Sassgay Coochiha lol, I’m pretty sure it’s peoples actions that stirr up racism not movies. You just don’t like it cause it depicted white people badly. Your probably the guy who doesn’t like slavery movies either.
When Rose is smiling at 2:41 i thought that there was gonna be another plot twist, where this whole Chris's revenge scene were only on his head and the surgery was actually worked 😓
The Paranormalist Personally, I don’t think having cops arriving in the alternate ending scene would have been very realistic. It would seem more like another horror movie cliche. This ending does seem to make more sense (to me at least), because we see throughout the movie about how concerned and nervous Chris’ friend is about him. It seems more realistic that he would go to the house because he is worried about his friend, instead of staying home and doing nothing.
Ok I like this ending. But I fell as if it would be more of a punch in the gut if he was shot and she survived so she could continue doing it I know that’s messed up but.
nah, I'd say its highly unlikely that cops would randomly show up at a random rural house in the country like this. It's more likely that his friend shows up
This movie was fantastic. I really thought it was gonna be Chris and Rose discovering what her parents were doing and try to stop them. But when he realizes she's in on it too, my jaw dropped. Such a scary, shocking moment. Poor Chris. He was completely on his own.
THAT was when you realized she's a freak? Not when it became clear that she had lured black men to her family and subjected them to that kind of "slavery" for years? Girl 😂
You can’t say it like that girl. You know we use the terminology “freak” & “nasty” for bedroom talk in a good way. You gotta say crazy or sum. We would never take crazy the wrong way. Lol
I think Allison William did a spectacular job of playing the role of a manipulative evil woman. The fact that Rose tried to emotionally manipulate Chris into feeling sorry for her and save her, even tho she tried to kill him a couple of seconds earlier, was a testimony of how despicable she was. She tried to act on his emotions, but once she realized that she was about to die by being strangled by Chris, she decided to impart a final trauma, by showing her true face and smiling at him with malice. Chris was already traumatized enough by everything he went trough, but what she was trying to do at that last moment, was leave an impression on him, so when he is having nightmares by what has happened to him, Rose and her smiling malicious face would be there to haunt him. Not to mention that Chris is probably not gonna be able to trust a woman any time soon.
Goodness I didn't think about why she was showing her true self.that smile was creepy. Never seen anyone in a movie do that while being choked to death. Pure evil energy.
"Consider the situation... fuckin' handled." Given its simplicity and humor, this is one of my favorite closing lines in any movie. So cathartic and lightens the mood after some harrowing shit throughout its runtime.
The symbolism in this horror movie is brilliant. He ended up running like a deer being hunted in the final scene. And just like the earlier hit and run he was forced to leave. This time however he was in control. He left Rose to die alone just like she left the deer to in the beginning.
@King Julian. I was about to say the same shit. I've been here for like 2 minutes and I've seen like 20 fkn comments from this dude. god dam dude, put it to rest.
I think that silent Police car scene would have been better if he got loud and lively with the sentence we all know we want to hear "Nigga, I told you this would happen!!!"
First time I watched this, I seriously expected it to be revealed that Rose was actually in love with Chris. I’m kinda glad it didn’t turn out that way.
@@Tavernum Danny Glover in Predator 2, Ice Cube in Anaconda, half the surviving Marines in Battle: Los Angeles, Will Smith and Vivica Fox as well as their son in Independence Day, Omar Sy in Jurassic World. Some of those aren't horror movies of course, but still...
He wasn't really trying to choke her that hard though. He was in love with her before and he has too much kindness in his heart. He doesn't have it in him to strangle her to death even after what she did.
@@kathleenevans676 no he definitely was initially, which is why crazy ass rose was grinning at him, it was only then that chris let up, he didnt want her to have the satisfaction
By grinning at him she was basically rubbing it in that their whole relationship was fake and that she took advantage of him. Chris realised she wasn’t worth the effort as she would die soon anyway.
A better twist would have been the cop showing up and not being portrayed as a racist. If people were going missing, especially a minority that isn't common in the area, it's not unreasonable for a cop to keep casual tabs on any who show up and who they're with in case they go missing. For all we know, he's looking out for a potential hate crime.
This ending is the perfect example for brilliant screenwriting. Your story doesn't always have to be overly dramatic. This scene works so much better with his friend showing up instead of the cops. Too many people think that the only way to write a great ending is for it to be shocking and sad. Amazing writing, Mr. Peele! (Three Billboards still should have won though.)
I think this ending has more of a winning factor considering that not only Chris is possibly the first "subject" that managed to fight back and unearth the Armitage secrets and retain the thought of their sinister acts BUT being that he was supposedly Rose's favorite (even though she manipulated him into releasing her neck, plus the other shit in the film) it adds more to her fall as well. That dead, cold expression she has before slipping away in the road. It's almost like an unbelievable expression, years of luring Black men out and having their bodies become physically hostage to another man's brain and will. So many men that became unsuspecting victims only for the family to finally have picked the wrong man and it cost them everything. Well done Jordan Peele!
How'd she manipulate him into releasing her neck? I mean I know she smiled but I didn't fully understand what was it about that smile that made him let go of her neck?
You're right, being a white man if i was in a situation where I was choking someone and there was a dead body next to me, and a cop rolled up, i would be allowed to continue choking the person until they died and then then the cop would come up and high five me for doing my white person duty🙄🙄

The whole audience (us included) were deeply drawn in and emotionally invested to the point where most people were audibly reacting to certain moments. The strongest reaction came near the end when the red and blue lights appeared just as Chris was choking Rose. The whole theater erupted in anguished groans and cries of "NOOOOOO!" The Paranormalist, I liked your comment for the "more satisfying" part, not the "more realistic" part.
