Beautiful performance played from the heart, as always. Lots of character, ebb and flow, with significant rubato. It's very different from my interpretation recorded back in 2014. I prefer to approach this piece with more depression, agitation and rage. Were you imagining a particular scene and under a particular emotional state? I wanted to ask you what you were visualising and feeling during this performance? Cheers, from Australia.
This work is C's 1st Nocturne. It was written when he was 17. His younger sister, age 15, died in April of that year. We hear in this, sorrow, grief, anger, hope, resignation, ever trying to turn back from the minor and into the major. Finally, resting there at the end. We can only guess and hear in this piece something of what the family must have felt for the loss of the child not making it through the winter.
It's hard to believe that Chopin didn't publish this nocturne because he wasn't satisfied with it. This is my favorite of all of his nocturnes. Tiffany played it with such feeling. One of my favorite interpretations.
Perhaps he liked the ideas so much he wanted to make it perfect? But I agree, as a composition it doesn't feel to me like it has a weak part like a few of his published pieces, it is strange...
I had a thought today that perhaps he didn't publish this because it was something just for him and his sister that he played to remember her. Perhaps we may never know.
Im amazed how music as this was invented by a human being, and at the same time, amazed that a human can reach that beauty playing it. God bless you, Tiffany. God bless music.
OMG, I'm learning this Nocturne right now! It's so wonderful to hear how it is supposed to sound, as opposed to how I play it! You give me the incentive to really learn and feel the piece. Thank you so much!
@@garden209 Yes, and thank you for asking! It took me a long time to learn that piece but due to the beauty and magic of the composition, I perservered. Presently, I'm working hard to learn Chopin's Op. 66, Fantaisie-Impromptu. The polyrythms are driving me crazy, but the joy is in the journey, not just the destination. I hope you are having as much fun as I am, on your piano journey.
I wish I was there, listening to your beautiful playing while sipping a tea. It's wonderful to be able to play this piece perfectly. I admire you, Tiffany.
This is perfect. Best Op 72 /1 I've ever heard. I especially liked the left hand, so wonderfully smooth despite the big jumps and the dynamics too. Complete perfection.
I was listening to this video and my cat came to me, she sat next to me, and closed her eyes listening to you playing :) Even animals get touched when you play music :)
Interesting interpretation, you played the climax 2:35 - 3:00 with less "urgency" than a number of other pianists (e.g. Maurizio Pollini) and it gave the entire piece more of a thoughtful reflective vibe rather than sounding like a broody lament.
This is exactly why we who love the piano play our favorite composers! We feel them in our own fingers, and they have given us the liberty to interpret their compositions
hello, mi comment is only one: FANTASTIC. Very different from my version but we have a common line: we don't follow the sheet note by note like a horse with blinders, but we give to the nocturne more free interpretation
Tiffany, you are definitely progressing on the way you sound and produce your own individual voice on the piano. We can hear clarity on phrases and very personal expressive melodies with stronger intention and direction. This performance transported us deep into your very own interpretation of a very well known piece, like reading aloud one's favourite book, but in a totally new way. Well done!
Hello Ms Tiffany Poon, I don't normally comment, however, I must say, of all the different videos I have watched of musicians performing this piece, I find myself watching your performance over and over; it is very soothing and I admire your style. Although I play guitar, I have been trying to learn this piece on the guitar; it has been a challenge to say the least. Now, I believe your playing has given me the desire, and more inspiration to learn this piece. Thank you for your work and like you said "Keep Striving." Thanks again, Musically yours, Bernard
You play it as though you wrote it, directly from the heart. The thought process and the mechanism of performance fade and the nocturne emerges as an experience. Wow!
Wow, Tiffany! I’m learning this piece. Such sensitivity! I cannot ever imagine hearing it played better. You are certainly my ‘influencer’ for this beauty.
Absolutely stunning performance! The tone of that piano is extraordinary. It sounds like a premium, Old-World, hand-crafted instrument. I like the dark body of the tone with the crisp, gentle attack. I wonder what it is. Edit: I studied the name on the piano, of which I could only make out the last letters. I noticed the direction of the grain inside is vertical, which is uncommon. I also noticed the felt at the back of the keys is pale blue. I think I figured out that this instrument is by August Förster, probably model 190, measuring 6'3". August Förster makes only 120 grand pianos per year. No wonder this sounds special!
" Hope you enjoy Chopin Nocturne Op. 72 No.1" You don't need to "hope" that anyone enjoys what you play, like the sun rises in the morning it's automatic. You play with such a beautiful perfection!

I like how this interpretation was passionate, emotional, poetic. Just like Chopin intended. With the climaxes climactic and the dormant periods dormant but still unequivocally intense.
Dear Tiffany, I wanted to say thanks a lot for sharing your musical journey with us and for inspiring me to start my own vlogs as a classical guitarist as well. Then why is this nocturne op.72?
Wasakeene Opus has nothing to do with chronological order it is just to organize pieces into groups.

I would not say resilience to death. Perhaps it is more of a noble resignation from life.
It was written when he was 17. Amazing.
