At first I just liked their ballads and happy songs (I still do💕) and ignored their darker concepts, until I decided to read their lyrics and discovered their lyrics about social issues, directly inspired (i guess) by Seo Taiji's bravery when writing, which i admire a lot. Many people (including me) judged them by their style of music but never read their lyrics. For example, I didn't like "I-yah" at all, because it was very "aggressive" to me, it wasn't my style of music, until I read the story behind it and read the translated lyrics and I was like wooow. After Knowing that, I listened to it again and omG it became one of my favorite songs, I actually cried listening to it, especially when the song stops and Kangta has a slow, painful solo. The same goes for "Hope", even though I already loved it, I used to think it was a random happy song of hope, but it was their way of giving strength during the 98's Asian finantial crisis . @@quickclipsart1028 It was a different world back then. And KPOP had its own unique style back then too. Groups like bts and blackpink may not have had the worldwide success they enjoy now if not for the roads h.o.t. and sechskies paved back then... and thanks to shows that aired in the usa back then showing kpop. (for me, it was Music Video Heaven on the long since cancelled channel International Channel). Those of us from the first Hallyu wave, encountered the most prejudice but we chipped away at it with our love for the new world of kpop and kdramas we loved.. and promoted. I could go on all day lol...
@@quickclipsart1028 Hallyu refers to the spread of Korean entertainment outside of Korea. Initially it was when Korean dramas started getting popular in Japan and China... mostly Japan tho. For kpop it was when it started spreading outside of east Asia. For example, Seo Taiji had a song in the American movie “3 ninjas kick back” in the early 90s (ironically it was played during a scene where they went to Japan, but kpop wasn’t a thing back then so nobody knew lol)
I was the same ! first it was H.O.T then S.E.S then FinKL well you know the list lol when you're listening you can't stop trying to discover new song it was a wholesome era
First generation Kpop was so different , I just don't have a favorite because all are amazing! It just gives you back such a nostalgic vibe that can never change .
I didn’t find Kpop until 2008. Been hooked ever since. Only thing that has consistently bugged me is how mannequin like most of the girl groups seemed to dance and pose. Seems everybody was much more natural in first gen. Seeing Shinwa when they were young was fun.
@@visualbeauty3427 America. I am now a 70 year old pale beige granny. Shocked? My family and friends decided I had lost what few marbles I had left when I got hooked on Kpop in 2008. And Kdramas and other tv shows. I used to live where those were broadcast on a couple of odd stations at night. Where are you from?
Why are you only coming for girl groups and then compare them to shinwa when shinwa is a boy group. It’s 2021 a lot of things have changed since then, but don’t start insulting 4th generation and ruin it for the rest of us young teens that enjoy the 4th gen groups. Most of the 4th gen girl groups dance so good and have advanced dancing compared to 1st gen.
@@kiaradenese1272 they didn't compare them, they made two separate statements. And they can have an opinion about them dancing better then vs. now lol Why even let that comment "ruin" your enjoyment of 4th gen 😂
Ahhhh, seeing Turbo and Lee Jung Hyun in a compilation always makes me happy! I listen to those two artists every day; and have been doing so for almost a year.
perfect man, coming of age ceremony, candy, and hope still being my favorite kpop songs. and i really love how the whole kpop industry call s.e.s as ‘fairy’ cause their visual really looks like they’re from a fairytale
i didnt see one post trashing todays music. if someone says this gen was better for them.. just accept their opinion and move on. dont be so sensitive or act like current gen is untouchable. all opinions are valid unless they are meant to purposely hurt someone. and.. all gens had their pros and cons. i love h.o.t. - candy as much as T-ara - roly poly as much as bts - fake love as much as Treasure - going crazy and Dreamcatcher - Good Night. kpop is just.. for me... it has been amazing... non-stop.. for 25 years now. ok.. i wrote too much.. sorry.
@@angeloppa i saw a few comments taking about how today’s music isn’t really music and just found it funny that people feel they have to trash today’s music just to praise the music back then. i’m not being sensitive lmaooooo.
Yeah I don’t get the trashing of any generation of music. Newer Kpop fans trash older generations, and older generation fans trash the new ones. We should all just appreciate it for what it is. If one prefers one generation over another that’s fine but don’t disrespect the others.
surprised not to see the early TVXQ stuff make the cut here. I wonder sometimes if current kpop fans really know exactly what it was like back in those days when Cassiopeia was as big and boisterous as ARMY is today. I wonder what its like growing up with Kpop in a world post-break up. It's hard for me to even imagine. It was nice to see BoA get her due though. I don't think she gets quite enough credit for how much she actually did for the internationalization of kpop. If she hadn't busted open Japan for KPop and Korean artists, we'd be in a very different place. Kpop owes a lot to that girl and its nice to see her get highlighted
@sophia t if sorry sorry and such get to be here, then there's no excuse for rising sun, balloons ect to be missing. I cannot overstate how massive tvxq was in the early-mid2000s
You have to take into account that kpop wasn't as known internationally back then as it was today. It was known in Japan and China during first Gen but that was about it
Roora is maybe not on the list because they are not KPOP or because this channel didn't want to show the scandalous member. I expected Angel who lost its wings to be here, so I gut surprised.

@@shruthakeerthi4559 Have you watched that new YT documentary on K-pop? They interview the rapper but in the credits identifying him leave out the periods, so it just says "[Dude's name], god". I didn't know who he was but I figured he must be important.
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music they interviewed both the rapper, Joon Park, and the vocalist, Kim Taewoo. Leaving out the periods is pretty weird on the editing team's part because "god" is pronounced 갓 (gat) in Korea while g.o.d. is 지오디 (ji-o-di) , which is the name they went by. G.o.d. were pretty much the first boy group to leave the "teenage fangirls" target audience and made music to appeal to all ages, which is why their songs are so timeless. Candle light processions still sing 촛불하나 (One Candle), To Mother is considered an anthem basically
H.O.T - Candy is the best K-pop song for every 90s kids in Korea. I was born in 1993 and this song is still my favorite. it has that feeling of 90s mood and smell.
As a Nine Muses fan I can remember three of these songs because they covered them through their active years. Some other songs were covered by other artists and/or referenced in music shows and in interviews. Recently BTS was jamming to some second generation T-Ara songs ("TTL - Time to Love" and "Women's Generation")
thank u for putting so much shinhwa in here :) normally these kinds of videos either don't mention shinhwa at all or just have "perfect man" in there and that's it. people don't realize it but they haven't disbanded although they haven't been active. Please give their albums a listen, especially their latest one from some years ago :) I've been their fan for many years and they're honestly underrated performers.
Sechskies is my favorite. I'm so happy they reunited again under YGE. I love their songs so much. And btw BoA my Queen. I heard her on tv when I was 4!
The great thing about 90's KPop is that even though they adapted the sounds that were trendy during those times, they still feel like KPop and it tends to resonate with their fans locally as well, the concept and genres were unique and full of diversity.. especially the dances that they would do and the music itself.
Many of us (new kpopers) have discovered these songs through our faves covering it right? I discovered Shinhwa's Perfect Man when JK covered it... Wow Shinhwa's songs and choreo was awesome and modern at that time Also I noticed that girls are not white washed and have natural tan complexion wow they look natural
Turbo has many hits such as My Childhood Dream, Twist King, Love Is, Cyber Lover, X, White Love and not counting their ballads like December and Jazz Bar. Its not only Black Cat Nero.
TURBO, Seo Taiji and Boys, Park Ji Yoon, Lee Junghyun (who is the first 1rst generation artist that I knew), S.E.S , H.O.T, G.O.D, Click-b, BOA, Son Dam bi, Black beat, Shinhwa, Deux, Koyote and Seschkies are my favourites ^^♥ I had a period where I listened only 1rst generation groups and solists 😂
quite shock that "I Know" by Seo Taiji and Boys did not make the list, its a very iconic song and one of the main reasons why K-pop is a thing today, but otherwise, decent list
yes but many koreans dosent think they are idole. they are just taiji boys. something is different. 1st gen are hot finkle sechkies ses may be. taiji changed korean culture. before taiji, every singers sang trot song. i still remember when watched i konw M/V in TV. that was tataly new one.
@@압둘라-d9uNot true. There were many dancing pop singers before Seo Taiji. Ex. Firetruck(80s boy group), Kim Wanseon. There was also rock music in 70s-80s. Saying that there was only trot before Seo Taiji is completely false.
How about "Sweet Dream" by Jang Nara? And My Lecon by JTL? Those songs were popular as cellphone ringtone in my country back then even most of people didn't know those were kpop songs
I also recommend: Two of us - Chae yeon Steal away - Park Ji Yoon Go away - Park Ji Yoon Illusion - Park Ji Yoon Pure love - Koyote Betrayal - Baby VOX Run to You - DJ DOC Favor - Chae Yeon Ignoring you - chae yeon😊
I know quite a few of these just because Mamamoo often sing it when they're at car, they include it in their medley (YHY Sketchbook), or they just involve these songs in their daily jokes.. Plus Solar is a huge fan of BOA.
Rain and Seven I remember i didn’t into kpop at that time yet but I know Rain and Seven‘s songs. Their songs were really famous in my country. I once brought Rain’s CD album too.

@@quickclipsart1028 It was a different world back then. And KPOP had its own unique
style back then too.
@@angeloppa hallyu wave?
@@quickclipsart1028 Hallyu refers to the spread of Korean entertainment outside of Korea. Initially it was when Korean dramas started getting popular in Japan and China... mostly Japan tho. For kpop it was when it started spreading outside of east Asia. For example, Seo Taiji had a song in the American movie “3 ninjas kick back” in the early 90s (ironically it was played during a scene where they went to Japan, but kpop wasn’t a thing back then so nobody knew lol)

I remember during the time when I just started out listening to Kpop, I wondered what 90s Kpop sounded like and I fell in love with S.E.S and H.O.T
Thanks for being open-minded musically!

K-pop as we know it today wouldn't exist without these artists. They're the real founders and foundresses of K-pop.
Can you do a simillar video for 2nd gen kpop please?
They already put it in the pinned comment, you can check it
First generation Kpop was so different , I just don't have a favorite because all are amazing! It just gives you back such a nostalgic vibe that can never change .
The first Gen had elements of western pop, hip hop, and r&b at that time. 90s and early 2000s music was a great time in music in general.
Honoring the times and artists when it all started. This is the foundation.
YES TO THE INTRO! Baby Vox one of the most iconic 1st gen groups with an equally iconic discography
I didn’t find Kpop until 2008. Been hooked ever since. Only thing that has consistently bugged me is how mannequin like most of the girl groups seemed to dance and pose. Seems everybody was much more natural in first gen. Seeing Shinwa when they were young was fun.
Where you from?
And they can have an opinion about them dancing better then vs. now lol Why even let that comment "ruin" your enjoyment of 4th gen 😂

perfect man, coming of age ceremony, candy, and hope still being my favorite kpop songs. and i really love how the whole kpop industry call s.e.s as ‘fairy’ cause their visual really looks like they’re from a fairytale
y’all realize you don’t have to trash today’s music to praise this, right? lol
i didnt see one post trashing todays music. if someone says this gen was better for them.. just accept their opinion and move on. dont be so sensitive or act like current gen is untouchable. all opinions are valid unless they are meant to purposely hurt someone. and.. all gens had their pros and cons. i love h.o.t.
@@splashoftrash oh ok *shrugs shoulders* 😎

I cannot overstate how massive tvxq was in the early-mid2000s
wasn't tvxq early second gen?? (they were considered the pioneers of the same too)
Tvxq was the most popular from 2nd gen
You have to take into account that kpop wasn't as known internationally back then as it was today. It was known in Japan and China during first Gen but that was about it
I've been a fan since around 2019, still a minor but I especially love the 1st and 2nd gen music
But they forget to mentioned Milk,RooRa,Cool,DJ Doc, Fly to the sky and many more
Roora is maybe not on the list because they are not KPOP or because this channel didn't want to show the scandalous member. I expected Angel who lost its wings to be here, so I gut surprised.
@@edoppelle K-Pop doesn’t only means groups, they were Band, Hip-hop,Ballad, R&B so many genre included....

G.o.d. were pretty much the first boy group to leave the "teenage fangirls" target audience and made music to appeal to all ages, which is why their songs are so timeless. one thing about kpop, it tends to respect its past (not always). so many current groups cover old skool kpop songs.. i love that
As a Nine Muses fan I can remember three of these songs because they covered them through their active years. Some other songs were covered by other artists and/or referenced in music shows and in interviews. Recently BTS was jamming to some second generation T-Ara songs ("TTL - Time to Love" and "Women's Generation")

The great thing about 90's KPop is that even though they adapted the sounds that were trendy during those times, they still feel like KPop and it tends to resonate with their fans locally as well, the concept and genres were unique and full of diversity.. especially the dances that they would do and the music itself.
