A masterclass is for learning and excavating. It’s not a competition and should not be judged as such. We all have to do this work. There are very few places where opera singers are permitted to be imperfect and the masterclass is one. Getting coached in front of an audience is not easy. Everyone willing to do it deserves respect for allowing us to benefit from the teaching just as much as them.
What is with some of these comments!! She's on her journey as a musician just like many of you are and were. She was good enough to get accepted to this program. She has a lovely voice, and it's clear to me that she's put lots of time and work into it. So what, she's there to improve so what's wrong with her doing so? Its brave of her to put herself out there like this (on the internet! For young singers to learn from and for all you snobs to see and criticize!) Someone said she shouldn't be in music.... And we wonder why people think we're elitists. Dear lord. Anyways, lovely job! I love seeing this process and these videos are a great tool.
Yes sadly TH-cam allows ‘armchair pundits’ to pontificate and proffer acidic ‘critique’ . Strangely none of these “experts” ever seems to have examples of them giving the perfect performance.
I always love to hear her comments. In a positive way she informs. Some of you are rather harsh towards this young singer. Give her a break. I see improvement within one master class! Criticism should come from a loving place, honest, but loving
Which of you people commenting about wobble, bad sound, bad teaching, finding something else to do, etc. have actually sung at Carnegie Hall and did a better job than her? Thank you! She has a beautiful voice and lots of charisma. I wish her all the success in the world!
It’s amazing how Joyce addressed an unrelated subject and all these other improvements can from the student instead of just going after singular issues. Love the approach! I wait for each new teaching series!
Sehr schöne Stimme und auch guter Umfang. Der Wobbel ist ein technischer Fehler und sollte korrigiert werden. Sie ist noch jung. Da nützt leider kein interpretatoisches Gesumse, sondern klare Technik.
I wish Renee Fleming worked with her instead of Joyce. DiDonato is great at living in the land of "concept", but that's not going to really solve this student's dysfunction...
A student who can't understand that what he/she is doing is not good, not clean, not in rythme, with a bad pronunciation, with bad sound, telling nothing, ... Why is he/she doing music ?! Make another thing ! I don't understand !
I think she has a rich sound defenitly. But one aspect of the voice is wrong and not the whole voice. Pobably a bad teacher, who didnt understand voice teaching damaged this voice. Very interesting the staccato exercise beginns to repair. Onset open, without clousing the throat.
A youtube commentator who can't understand that the purpose of a masterclass isn't to give armchair criticisms to the student but to help the student improve doesn't have much business on commenting on videos of a masterclass.

Merci beaucoup pour cette magnifique leçon !
Interesting how the wobble got much better without the word “wobble” having been said
magnifique voix, quelle présence et quelle diction!
We are delighted that you enjoyed this performance.
Once she got less nervous and stopped trying to send the sound her wobble practically went away.
Thats not a wobble.
Maybe disable comments.
She has a good sound, but a technical problem with the wobble. A good teacher can solve it.
The first problem is that she is a soprano.
@@1393PVWWO THIS.
clapping the hand will not solve it.

Bravo Madame DiDonato
Natural quality but agree, long way to go yet. And the wobble has to go! Maybe nerves?
I don't think she is a mezzo.
What is she?

OMG, she's not a mezzo, her wobble and very bad diction.
I wish Renee Fleming worked with her instead of Joyce. DiDonato is great at living in the land of "concept", but that's not going to really solve this student's dysfunction...
i am not a singer but a dancer. I simply love her comments. To me they seem rather practical rather than conceptual.
Seulement un vomi de voyelles sans émotion

ceci est vite dit. quel langage! un vomi...

T J these kind of “bad” thing no one gonna say it in master class. Only students vocal teacher and coach will tell her.
If you don't understand maybe should do another thing.
