    What strikes me about ww2 is that unlike other wars where the combatants feel the carnage is exaggerated, most ww2 vets think the wars been pacified in the movies and docs. Makes you really think.

      That’s probably because the scale of the fighting. Today, most actions are done in small groups and guerrilla type warfare. A sort of hit and run type of fighting. Back then it was still closer to trench warfare. You dug in and shot until you ran out of bullets or enemy combatants. Also the Allies weren’t too familiar with the terrain they were fighting in either. They had recon back then but the info was more or less from spies, dated maps, and pictures taken from planes, not the sophisticated satellite imagery that is used today. That is kind of weird though. War is war, its all terrible.

      Idk..the depictions of ww2 seemed so brutal. A conflict that swallowed the world.. Entire countries were razed to the ground.. and I’m not talking 3rd world…atomic bombs falling! A maniacal demagogue that tried to take the world with him?? Naw..that’s all the depiction I need.

    My parents were born into the Great Depression. They lost cousins and older friends to WWII and my dad lost his fingers in boot camp when a m1 garand misfired before he was sent to Korea. My family weren't warriors but we tried to be. I joined the Navy during the gulf war in 91. Then things got political and I left after 4 years. After 911 I was still able to re enlist. I should have but didn't. 20 years later it haunts me.

    We love the your videos with much inside details to made the stories come to life for your audience. During WW2 our father worked on British merchant marine convoys supplying war materials to England. During 2 separate trips the ships were torpedoed by German submarines. He and some of his other comrades were picked up from their life raft by another ship. After escaping death twice this way, he decided to jump ship in New York. However by coercion he was inducted into the US Army April, 1943. Father served in Al Levy's unit, the 288th Field Artillery Observation Battalion. Could you bring this part of history alive for our family and friends sometimes in the near future? Thanks!

      They were given things to survive 1-2 days at least. Even then, the list is kinda long. 18 items are on the list I found. Some of those items they wore, the ammo pouch, the trousers and jacket, the helmet. Then they had their first aid, dinner rations, canteen and gas mask. The entrenching shovel, rifle with sling, sidearms and holsters, cleaning kits for the firearms. Stop watch, etc. They had a lot, a lot of little things…. I think they were carrying 60 extra pounds total, not just in the backpack.

Thank you ladies for being the support work being programmers, typewriters, and factory workers. At the same time, it was the men who sacrificed their arms and limbs and lives for the safety of the society that you live in today. It was men in the front lines on D Day. Men. Yes. During OIF, they discouraged us from taking any war trophies, specifically any Iraqi National flags, any article of cultural attire, daggers, AK’s. We were permitted to swipe Iraqi Dinars which became worthless almost overnight and was used by the locals for toilet paper or bargaining chips for soldiers(hey American! Friend! You want Saddam dollars yes? I give to you for $5 American yes?). But trophies still slipped through. I personally took Iraqi money, AK-47 magazine, MRE tobacco bottle filled with desert sand. The only thing I have left after my multiple moves, is my original combat knife I took with me.

    This isn't about what soldiers carried, it's more of a summary of D-Day.

    My dad was born three years before the outbreak of WW2. Sure. Sweden was neutral under the duration of the war, but they did sell weapons to the allies and was the first country to rescue people from the concentration camps

      Weapons to the allies?… more like steel, coal to the Germans

    • @Chisszaru
      @Chisszaru 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@junkfish2007 they sold weapons to the allies. They sold tons of anti aircraft guns to USA and the UK. Sweden don't have coal, so you're lying there. They sold weapons to the allies and Switzerland bought iron to Germany thru Sweden, so Sweden never actually sold anything to the Germans

    So Many mass casualties, but even operation D-day was nothing compared to operation Barbarossa! ⚰️☠️
    Soldiers often bludgeoned their enemies to death with their rifle butt's, up close and personal once out of ammo.
    Nasty! 🥶

      they were out of the bomb's range when they dropped it, so really nothing happened to them
