    A four season tent, but with no bug mesh on the vents...
    I'm still going to purchase one as I want to downsize in terms of weight and footprint from my Black Diamond Mission 3P, primarily used in winter. But come on such an oversight if used in warmer conditions. Other than that it looks brilliant, a potential Hilleberg beater.

    You guys need to push your tents more in the mountaineering and camping community’s . I’ve been involved in those activities for over 20 years and have only just heard of you, and it was by accident. I’ve used a lot of tent manufacturers and recently my go-to tent has been the Hilleberg Jannu, however from what I’ve seen your Summit Star is an absolute contender for such camps. I’m a photographer and I always have my dog with me - the Storm Star will be absolutely perfect for me, I’ve also ordered the Mountain Start for friendlier conditions. Don’t limit your Horizons - Hilleberg push their products in both the Hunting and Mountaineering communities.

      I agree. I've been backpacking & foul weather trekking for decades. I only discovered KUIU when I started deer hunting 3 years ago.
      Their sleeping bags and tents are good to go.

    I spent the better part of 13 days in this tent hunting mountain goats with Bolen Lewis this past October in Coastal BC. At one point in the hunt we were in this tent for 52 straight hours. We had wind, snow, sleet and tons of rain. This was an environment where staying dry/getting dry is not a matter of comfort, it was a matter of survival.The tent was dry. The condensation was minimal, The size was big enough for two guys (I'm 6'-4" & 200 lbs), The separate vestibules are awesome. It gives you your own space when you are being pushed to your mental limits of confinement.
    I would recommend this tent to any backpacking hunter. I plan to buy one for myself.

      This 4 year old comment absolutely sold me. I've found there are 2 types of waterproof out there, there's waterproof for most places, and then there is coastal northwest North America waterproof. I hunt in the OR Coast Range and this last week's elk rifle season we had hail day 1, then torrential rain (with sporadic wind storms) for the next 4 days straight. I found quickly which gear was which type of waterproof. I definitely have this on my shopping list now.

    Man.. the only thing I wish this had, was asymmetric vestibules, and with that, asym ventilation at the top. That way you always have at least one entry in good/better conditions, especially for cooking. And cross breeze for ventilation not relying on wind in "just" one direction. Also if the weather changes you're not as screwed as with a symmetric design. But man.. I sooo want to try this tent and compare it to my beloved Fjällräven Abisko Dome 2, which I see as the gold standard in really clever design and features, especially in ventilation and liveability. I'm seeing s lot of things about this tent, as I've been looking at it over and over since it's release, that I really like. Testing it here in Norway would be nothing short of amazing! What say you KUIU? ^^

    I received this tent on Monday. Returned it on Tuesday. First, the quality is great. First rate. However, for me, the hardest part was connecting the C clamp type connectors to the poles. I could not do it. I tried to squeeze the clamp open. Seemingly, I did not have the hand strength to do that. Otherwise, I lacked the understanding about how the system worked. After trying different ways to open the connector, out of frustration I gave up. Next, removing the poles from the pole sleeve was difficult. Pulling the pole from the sleeve required force. In so doing, the pole came out but the tip of the pole, that was attached by the rope, remained. I pulled that portion out and the tip just sprung back into the pole. Probably not the way it is supposed to work. Most likely operator error. I liked the tent. I hoped this would be a simple build. For me, it was not. 🤷🏼‍♂

    very good presentation - everything I've seen or experienced with KUIU so far has ranged good to great - I completely understand Jason's reasoning for his marketing scheme, THAT said it's going to be a challenge in today's world of "run to the outdoor store and shop, shop, shop" particularly with the fitting challenges

    I suggest more material that can go all around the base of the ten to make snow skirts.....Ferrino makes them that you can roll up the skirt and buckle them up or roll them down.

    From TH-cam Video sites it seems several Brits like this tent for its ability to stand up to ridiculous winds in British hills.
    I feel it is better designed than the similar HLLEBERG ALLAK 2 and certainly equal in quality ti the ALLLAK 2.
    I have your YUKON rain parka snd really like its thoughtful design features like pit zips and neoprene cuff areas.

    I have the MS2P tent and when I saw this in March that you came out with a 4 season tent right after I got mine in October 2015 BUMMER! I will say that I have enjoyed mine minus a few runs in the netting which I have no idea how they got there... cause I treat the thing like gold! So it held up okay I suppose... Im heading to Kennaday Peak WY on a elk hunt this September and will be there for 10 days. That being said, can you give some insight on condensation? Cause mine during a mild fog was as wet as a Brazil Rain Forest in that thing the following morning, and it was 38-45* here in TX during that time?

    • @kuiuultralight
      @kuiuultralight  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure you have all of your vents open; the thing is with fog, though, it is going to soak your tent no matter how ventilated it is. Because the moisture is quite literally contained in the air, you can't keep it out without making the tent airtight, and that creates problems when you run out of oxygen after an hour or two ;) Ventilation does its job best when the warm, moist air you're expelling from your lungs can get out of the tent into the cooler, dry air; that way it doesn't condense on the side. But when the outside air is moist and cold, and the inside air is moist and warm, there's no dry air that can ventilate into the tent to keep the moist air out--ALL of the air is moist, so letting in cooler air doesn't help you in that condition. Fog is the worst condition for a tent!

    • @scottlandb6579
      @scottlandb6579 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it sucked for sure and thank you for your response so quickly! Let me ask do yall sell just the netting? Im good right now but I am worried about another season with the netting? Thanks again!

    • @kuiuultralight
      @kuiuultralight  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We don't sell just the netting, but you could easily patch it with almost any similar material; our netting isn't anything particularly proprietary. When Toray comes up with the netting of the future, we'll incorporate it :)

    can't find the interior dimensions anywhere. How long is it inside when set up? And where is your company based out of?

    • @kuiuultralight
      @kuiuultralight  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kurt--the tent's interior is 83" long when set up. It's 42" wide at the foot, and 56" wide at the head, so you can sleep shoulder-to-shoulder. We're based in Dixon, California, just a few minutes outside of Sacramento. Stop by the showroom if you're ever in town!

    • @kurtpenner2362
      @kurtpenner2362 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KUIU Ultralight Hunting Thanks for the reply. I think you are still looking for feedback and I have to point out that I would find this 83" length too short for my height. My current tent is a true 90" inside and I use almost all of that. If you ever feel compelled to make a Plus size version of this tent (like the REI Half Dome Plus) then I would be most interested.

    • @sunnysideamps

      I have a question about the floor dimensions. The video mentions 46" wide at feet, and 56" wide at head end, but above you state that the interior width at the foot end is 42". So, is it 46" or 42" ? Thanks!

    • @kuiuultralight

      No. The tent won't stand up without the floor (it needs the horizontal tension), so don't do it. You'd be better off opening the vestibule flap.

    • @kuiuultralight
      @kuiuultralight  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, here you are on this video too--you really care about this! Actually, I do have a couple of clips from a real world test, but they're not enough to create a full video piece around it--they were just a couple of shots that the guys grabbed to show conditions. Interested to see them anyway? If so, I might toss a couple of images and stills into a video timeline.
      Other than that, we could put you in touch with one of the many guides using this tent--Jason and Brendan's most recent sheep hunts have not been in heavy snow conditions, so I don't have video content from either of them that would be helpful to you.
