I was happy with how it was resolved with Ruby, she never got to process her emotions, and she came back stronger for it.
She was wrestling with a combination of guilt, and dealing with her choices not resulting in how she hoped.
I also don't think the gods were banished, the tree spirit created the gods, and once they were older and wanted to do bigger things, the tree out of 'love' let them go out into a new space to create their own world, which is remnant.
I like how The tree listed all the things they developed, Destruction, Creation, Knowledge, and Choice. The same gifts the brothers left for them. In a way, they realized that the world was out of their control, and did was the tree did. But gave them a way to call the gods back.
I also think it makes sense if you think of Alexs wish being to restore Jaune being this: The tree has been waiting a long time, because if it wasn't for Alex poisoning Jaune, and him being afraid of the tree from what the cat told him, he would have gone their with them, and likely have been restored and sent back. It got to the point he actively stopped the Paper Pleasers because of that.
