Chorzów (1922-1934 Royal Steelworks) is a city in southern Poland, in the Silesian Voivodeship, located in Upper Silesia, in the center of the Upper Silesian Industrial District, a local economic and cultural center. The decision to grant city rights was made only on July 17, 1868. In June 1922, the town of Königshütte was annexed to Poland, giving it the official Polish name Royal Steelworks. The name of Chorzów was given to the city on July 1, 1934, when the communes of Chorzów and New Hajduki were incorporated into Royal Steelworks. The history of the city is closely related to the development of industry. Mainly mining and metallurgy, but also energy and chemistry. Today, the former pillars of the industry no longer play a leading role, because as a result of economic transformation, the workplaces were restructured, as a result of which the Chorzów mines were closed or merged with other mines, and the scope of operation of the steelworks was also limited. The post-industrial gap in Chorzów's economy is supplemented by small and medium-sized enterprises, mainly service and commercial enterprises.
