@jillianclark4076 You made it to that age, but unfortunately, without wisdom. This interpretation is nice, but it doesn't even approach the 1961 critically acclaimed masterpiece, interpreted by the king. Elvis's warm tone is timeless. Everything here is mediocre at best. If you actually had an ounce of intelligence, you'd begin to understand that. But you really don't have a clue.
Mr Guthrie, I'm 69 years old and just found your music, which I love. Sorry I missed out in the 60s and 70s when I grew up, but I plan on enjoying it during my 60s and 70s and the rest of my years. Thanks again !!!
Im fixing to be 74 and grew up with music like this and listening to it now it sure brings a whole different vision. Im glad I grew up when I did. I GOT to see the best of everything. I feel for all these kids that are growing up in these times now.
Exactly!!! I'm also 74, went to Woodstock, and feel so bad for my kids and grandchildren growing up without the awesome freedom we had!!! But I've made it a point to SHARE THIS CULTURE with them. PEACE & LOVE: God has it all there waiting for us on the other side
What days? He's still performing! We saw and listened last year, he puts on a great show! Musically fine, and his storytelling is just perfect! Long live Arlo!

I grew up in the sixties. Always loved Arlo Thanks for doing my favorite Elvis song. It was wonderful A good folk singer can do any song and sound like it was written just for them.
Two legends singing and playing another legend, all done with class and humility and appreciation for the music. There's lots of bad stuff here on TH-cam, but it's performances like this that somehow make you forget all that bad stuff.
I have loved this man my whole life for all the reasons we all know. Truly a beautiful soul and amazing talent. Hoping for one more chance to see him in 2023!

My brother and I are big fans of this. My brother is in the hospital right now after suffering a acute stroke. I can't go see him due to Covid. He is having a rough go. My nephew played this for him at my request and I find I'm watching it daily right now. It somehow brings him closer.

Such better times than the agreesive insanity most are forced to be around these days. Listen and learn folks.❤
I saw him tell this same story and perform this song at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in 2003, ten years after this video. It was life changing. I notice a lot of the people in the audience here are older folks, who would all know the words to this song, but in 2003, most of his audience was younger folks, and we all knew the words too. A chorus of tens of thousands of people on a hilltop under the stars. We had the lighters going and everything... It was the most perfect demonstration of folk music I've ever seen. Thank you Arlo.
Just found this clip, 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 What an absolutely beautiful performance and such a fabulous take on one of THE classic songs ever! Thank you Arlo for your humour and a terrific version. Thank you Pete for your banjo accompaniment. PRICELESS. Paul 🇬🇧
I’m a new guitar player. Well new is perhaps misleading in that I had my 79th birthday on 22 April 2022, having retired only a couple of years ago, so I’m hardly new but my guitar playing is. My wife of 56 years bought me a great acoustic guitar to give me something to do / not to interfere with her daily routines. The great Arlo has been my inspiration! It’s taken a while but I’ve practiced this song and the way he plays it and it’s more or less come together! I start my practice with with it every day. I’m now trying to work on his other songs. Thank you Mr Guthrie!
Mr. Mike, Picking and hopefully grinning. I used to play a little guitar and over the years I gradually gave it up and even gave my old guitar away. I was talking to a friend the other day and told him I missed playing guitar and that I wanted to buy me another but I was worried about pain of starting over. However, I'm feeling inspired now!

Words can't explain how much beauty flows within and without this video. Thanks to the late great Jackie Guthrie for uploading this (this is her channel, but it was put into Arlo's name a couple of years ago). For years, this video popped up in my suggestions but never being a big Elvis fan, I never bothered to watch it. One night, on a whim, I finally gave it a chance and, man, am I glad I did. It evoked emotions in me that I had forgotten could be produced by mere music. The video in its entirety is magnificent. There is something so pure about it that it rids me of any guilt I feel watching it when I should be doing something else more "productive". There I was, some years ago, watching this with wet cheeks and an open heart; here I am now, midst of a mental breakdown, hiding at home with COVID-19 spreading about Australia, a nation who fails to take it seriously (we never went into lockdown/quarantine), and this song pops up in my suggestions. I decide to give it another chance and, sure enough, the same feeling I experienced all those years ago comes right back. I may not have any tears now, but I have a sudden drive, an ambition, an inspiration to be more like people like Arlo and Pete. Peace and love is what they have preached all their lives, and it sure as hell has had a significant impact on the world we live in today.
Thanx for your story "). I'm listening to it after having open heart surgery a terrible amount of pain yet this song, these people "Helped Me Make It Through The Night"! Blessings to you ~
Same. It's a little bitter-sweet for me though. When I hear this song, I think of the love I have for my son and the love that his beautiful fiancee has for him. My son is 30. The last 15 years of his life have been quite traumatic because I am an alcoholic. We've experienced terrible incidents because of me. My son is an accomplished classical guitarist, has an honours degree in music and is now studying law at uni. I caught up with him and his beautiful lady on boxing day 2021. Caught up with him and his lady today. Both occasions were happy, although, both times, I could sense he was tense initially. My son works part time for an organisation that cares for troubled youths. Today I said, "You've got the perfect background for the job." He responded, "Yeah it really helped me with the interview." I love my son with all my heart and soul. I thank him for always coming back to me. "Like a river flows surely to the sea Darling so it goes Some things are meant to be Take my hand, take my whole life too For I can't help falling in love with you." I know the moment of conception of my child. I have always loved him. I will always love him. Arlo, your song makes my heart burst with tears of sadness but mostly with tears of joy.

Simply put, Arlo is a National Treasure. The way he commands a crowd, his story telling, and his musical persona, is epic. He is so unbelievably engaging. I saw him play at Bethel Woods (NY) in August 2019 at the top of the same field that he played 50 years ago (to the day) at the Woodstock Festival and he was magic. The funniest line he delivered to the audience was “please don’t eat the brown ANT-acid” ... it was hysterical! He knows how to folk it up and helps the audience with lyrics so that they can sing along. It’s never about him, it’s about people. He sounded wonderful and it will be a memory that I’ll remember forever. Peace and love Arlo!

Arlo has a great understanding of his audience. He really knocked this old tune out of the park and revived its soul.
I do!!
In my 69year old opinion about the music I've heard, this is the BEST rendition of this song!
Best ever
Love to listen to him
@jillianclark4076
You made it to that age, but unfortunately, without wisdom.

Best ever? To a low IQ weak mind perhaps.
Mr Guthrie, I'm 69 years old and just found your music, which I love. Sorry I missed out in the 60s and 70s when I grew up, but I plan on enjoying it during my 60s and 70s and the rest of my years. Thanks again !!!
Arlo is still one of the most fun and funniest performers there is. What a blessing he is.
Arlo does a good job but give me Elvis singing this any day!! 💕💕

That he is.

I also just found this. I keep playing it. Listening to Arlo sing this song makes me feel that there's still a lot of joy to be found in this world. X

Oh this music is awesome from the vocal to the voice i love it so much, so pretty, Are you a lover of good music like i do?
In love with him no matter what
One day I heard Arlo sing this song... and I've been singing it ever since. Thank you, Arlo.
I also realize how special and beautiful this performance was but what a wonderful person Arlo Guthrie is and how much I miss those days
What a great rendition..
What days? He's still performing! We saw and listened last year, he puts on a great show! Musically fine, and his storytelling is just perfect! Long live Arlo!
@@MyCleverHandle "those days" was more then just arlo & folk music...a sense of a certain type of freedom & real hope that major changes were going to happen. I been listening to this rendition regularly since i discovered it about 5 yrs ago. Came across it tonight new year's eve 2023. Still brings a tear to my eyes and a smile to my face. Bless you Arlo Guthrie

Indeed, what is a Folk song but a song sung by the Folk. It's not a protest, it's a song of and for the people.

So awesome. Wish I could have been there.

I just retired and am trying to learn playing the piano and guitar (again, last time was almost 50 years ago). Haven't figured this song out yet.

@@anelladambrosio2513 hello
Oh, how meaningful! Thank you for telling us this! I think of Jackie, and of Arlo's beautiful rendition of this song; he had to be singing to her!
