We are going to do a similar experiment but with 30 chicks in spring. Want to compare mortality rates, feed, growth, taste, and profitability of selling them finished.
We're still raising Cornish Cross, but our first flock of ABC chicks are just about to start laying. We're hoping that within a couple of year, the ABC birds will be our main source of chicken meat. We've sampled two ABC at 12 weeks and they were delicious 😋
Wing bands punch a hole in the wing and leg bands do fall off. It's like getting your ears pierced, not too bad I'd say. I was so young I don't even remember the pain ;)
@@pearlymopar I never realised the wing bands went through the wing the ones that I saw used just went over the wing like a band in either metal or plastic like the leg band but shaped for the wing
I like that you are doing this comparison. Thank you for showing us what Feed you use. I had my chicks on 22% up to four weeks and then I switch them to 30% game starter feed for 10 weeks before switching to cracked corn soaked in milk. I didn’t notice too much of a difference, but it was an interesting experiment.

Walker farm family recommended your channel. To see the difference between American bress and Cornish cross.
Looking forward to the comparison

Have you thought about crossing the two?
I did try that for a little bit, I have a couple videos on it but I decided to focus my time on make the American Bresse better
Punching holes in feet seams a bit extreme surly you could just use wing bands or leg bands to keep track of your stock?

How about I visit in 14 weeks and do the taste test since I haven’t eaten either but a few times 👍🏻👊🏻
So your coming to our house for thanksgiving? 🥳
@@The.Recreational.Homestead I mean… we have to mark Michigan off our list sooner or later 🤷🏻♀️
I like cornish cross birds.

Do you keep your chicken plucker outside?
😂 could probably put it away now, I let someone use it and didn’t want to put it right in the barn just in case.
