Her performance here is exquisite! I got lost in the emotion of the song through her incredible acting. She conveys so much through her eyes. She's a treasure! Linda is good too. But, I have a soft spot for Colleen's version of the character.
I think Coleen definitely takes the role to heart. She sings as if she's the character, timid, and lost, but with spirit and fire. She is vocally quite talented, and brings the song to life with her acting. Makes me think, "whoaa" every time. ....
God I love her. I love the innocence she brings to Lucy. I'm a fan of casting girls with this "innocent" quality even more than the "Sex" quality because it makes this role SO MUCH SADDER. Beautiful. I wish the directing of this production wasn't so over the top though.
the minute someone tries to "play" sexy it becomes a farce, an idea of sex. The tragedy of Lucy is indeed her innocence & hope in a world that is literally hell.
She was Elphie for at least the two o'clock show on Saturday the 20th, and she was omfg!amazing. I was bummed that I wouldn't get to see Victoria, but then she did Wizard and I and I was hooked. My favorite Elphie, hands down.
to all the haters! I've seen her do this live on Broadway in the show and she was amazing! Linda Eder is amazing as well but you are basing it on a video and not hearing her live. plus she was in Wicked in the national tour and she was spectacular in that too!!
+mtbwaylover And I am sure most people comparing haven't seen Linda Live either- Most are probably comparing Linda and Collen's professionally recorded versions.
+Darreyl Henderson yes I know this is considered filmed live .... however, they still edit it before they aired it on tv. So you aren't getting her actually live in person. If that makes sense.
When I saw Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway last month, every time Deborah Cox opened her mouth, I just kept thinking, "Why isn't Coleen Sexton doing this?!"
I have this DVD as well and I love it. Not a fan of Hasselhoff but he's good in this one. Coleen Sexton is breath-taking in this. She was the understudy when I saw Wicked a couple months ago.
I absolutely adore coleen....she brings so much personality to the the character (not to mention an awesome belt)... to put it simply she is awesome...
As much as i love Linda...Coleen has the power and the look for 'Lucy'...not to mention Coleen gives the character of Lucy the naievity and freshness that the character needs in order to make it work. Love her performance
To the two commenters who say they have met Sexton. I literally hate you both! I wanna meet Coleen Sexton in person! As a singer myself, I've seen better vocal technique, I definitely have, but I am in awe of her acting ability. Acting is my much under acknowledged passion, and this woman has played two roles that I would give my life and my ashes to play; Lucy from Jekyll and Hyde, and Elphaba from Wicked.
Shes is incredible, we are all open to our own opinions, but those who say she sucks..... lets hear you try! Shes incredible, shes shines, shes gives everything so much energy! what a talent
LUCY: I peer through windows, Watch life go by, Dream of tomorrow, And wonder why The past is holding me, Keeping life at bay, I wander lost in yesterday, Wanting to fly - But scared to try. But if someone like you Found someone like me, Then suddenly Nothing would ever be the same! My heart would take wing, And I'd feel so alive - If someone like you Found me! So many secrets, I long to share, All I have needed, Is someone there. To help me see a world, I've never seen before, A love to open every door To set me free, So I can soar! If someone like you Found someone like me, Then suddenly, Nothing would ever be the same. There'd be a new way to live, A new life to love, If someone like you Found me! Oh, if someone like you Found someone like me, Then suddenly Nothing will ever be the same! My heart would take wing, And I feel so alive - If someone like you Loved me... Loved me!
YES - it was great- I saw it on Broadway 96 times! Its my record! However, my memory is tarnish by the last few months with david hasselhoff -- He was soooo horrible, i would leave crying every night! How can they have done that (david hasselhoff) to this show! he was so bad! it brought everyone down!
actually, she's currently the stanby for elphaba on the wicked national tour, which is different than an understudy. a standby usually performs sporatically, where a understudy can never get the opprotunity the perform the role.
I've listened to Linda, Lea, and Coleen's rendition of this song, and I prefer Coleen's over the other two. She sings this song with so much power in her voice, and holds notes longer than the other two.
sympathy-tenderness is one of those asides-a part where a character talks to audience without being heard by the other characters on the stage. So it's just her feelings, not talking to Jekyll...=)
Linda Eder was never known for her acting ability, no argument there. But strictly from a technique perspective, Eder is consistently superior, she owns this role. Why do you think so many other singers want to be favorably compared with her?
i love this song so much she sings it so beautifully with so much feeling and sadness in the beginning i can really relate to this song cuz as her i want a certain great sumome to love me but i have ruined my rep like she has =(
The point I was trying to get across is that you can't expect the acting of a theater person to be the same as a film person- the styles are different. Film can be subtle- Theater usually has to be exaggerated. Someone commented on the acting ability in this DVD- my point was don't expect the same subtlety you would get from a major film actress, because it's not going to happen.
@LyndonSamuel1980 I think it only reads like that because we're seeing it close up through the camera, if you were there live in the theatre, those huge gestures would only read half of what they do now bringing it down to a more realistic level
I personally found her interpretation very interesting. Unlike Linda Eder and the other actresses I've seen play Lucy, she has an interesting mix of naivete in with the rest of her character. She doesn't seem quite as jaded as the rest, probably because of her age.
MsFESTER11: Don't judge her like that. She got the role she deserved, that was the director's choice. Not yours. the next time you want to make a comment like that, maybe you should know what you're talking about first.
You have to consider that they are singing, which is the main thing you're really going to see a musical for (the music) and some things just aren't possible to do AND sing at the same time-plus considering how far most ppl are from the stage when they are performing, I'm sure a lot of the smaller gestures etc you would look for in a normal theatrical production would get missed anyway-she's acting like she would in a theatre.
If I had a voice like Coleen Sexton I would never stop singing... ever!!
Her performance here is exquisite! I got lost in the emotion of the song through her incredible acting. She conveys so much through her eyes. She's a treasure! Linda is good too. But, I have a soft spot for Colleen's version of the character.

Holy cow... that's a shake-the-house performance! As someone already said, with her as Eponine, I don't believe there'd be a dry eye in the house...
@@siribaimusic agreed reminds me of Fantine, innocent then thrown in the harsh reality of how the world really is
@@tomgallowitz all too true. Eponine too.
I agree. Colleen's Lucy has that youthful side of her.
She was Elphie for at least the two o'clock show on Saturday the 20th, and she was omfg!amazing. I was bummed that I wouldn't get to see Victoria, but then she did Wizard and I and I was hooked. My favorite Elphie, hands down.

^This comment.
+mtbwaylover But she is singing Live.....

What haters I'll find them and hunt them down
The best Lucy ever !!!
Definitely see Eponine when sings alive and is back in reality
I love this woman. She has an absolutely stellar voice.
And this song is one of my favorite's from Jekyll.
Wow. Amazing.
i cannot get over her voice!! its soooo good
When I saw Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway last month, every time Deborah Cox opened her mouth, I just kept thinking, "Why isn't Coleen Sexton doing this?!"

Understudy. Who was better? Lol
I absolutely adore coleen....she brings so much personality to the the character (not to mention an awesome belt)... to put it simply she is awesome...
Coleen's voice is so gorgeous. I'd love to hear her as Eponine from Les Miserables.
i've watched this about eight times at different intervals today...there's something so innocent and beautiful about this performance
I love this song! it was played at my wedding reception for the first dance!
the hoff felt her emotions through this song this is so brilliant and so beautifull i love the hoff...........
I really loved her voice. If only the Jekyll had been Bob Cuccioli I'd watch this DVD a thousand times XD
Man...I get goosebumps and butterflies when I hear this song! I love this show..it brings so much variety and challenging but wonderful songs.
*Claps* Yay! One of my fav songs. :)
Why is this song so amazing?
I just want to belt it out all the time.
She is absolutely hands down my favorite Lucy ever. Her voice is flawless!
I really liked it ... she is gorgeous and has a heavenly voice!
simply amazing. she has such a purity to her voice.
amazing! colleen is perfect in that role ! absolute par de force! fab!
As much as i love Linda...Coleen has the power and the look for 'Lucy'...not to mention Coleen gives the character of Lucy the naievity and freshness that the character needs in order to make it work.
Love her performance
She is stunning! Gives me goosebumps everytime i hear her sing!
i love this song and i think she sings it beautifully!:)
Why the heck are there 21 dislikes on this video!?!? Colleen is amazing!
She's amazing. And has SUCH a lovely voice (and is gorgeous). Thanks for posting! I want to get this movie now.
God coleen's voice is absolulely stunning!!!
I'm singing this in my audition for peter pan this week, wish me luck :)
It’s been 10 years, how was it then ? 😂
To the two commenters who say they have met

i could listen to her and never get bored man !! shes amazin!! i want to see this on broadway :'(
Am I the only person to think that Coleen Sexton would make a good Eliza Doolittle?
Nope, not the only one! Her cockney dialect is great.
beautiful xxx omg i love this song and she puts so mucb energy and emotion into it :)
2018 still my favorite song
Gosh, she is so angelic!
I love her sooo much! She is gorgeous!
This song brings back bittersweet memories...
beautiful song!.. love the ending!
When they played this on HBO, I think I watched it about 20 times. I wish I had it on DVD.

That is soo amazing you got to see her do Elphie!! I am so jelous!

coleen sexton! your voice is awesome!
Am I the only one who really compares Lucy to Eponine
+ZoeK Right?
no, I do too.
See a bit of Fantine too
No your not alone (sorry I know this comment is old)
she makes it look so easyy
I've listened to Linda, Lea, and Coleen's rendition of this song, and I prefer Coleen's over the other two. She sings this song with so much power in her voice, and holds notes longer than the other two.
I love her voice so much.
She sounds like an angel
she is stunning
Colleen Sexton should play Fantine in Les Miserables!
Now thats how that songs supposed to sound....kudos to Coleen :]
sympathy-tenderness is one of those asides-a part where a character talks to audience without being heard by the other characters on the stage. So it's just her feelings, not talking to Jekyll...=)
Why would you tell me this?! I am now so jealous of you! I have always thought Coleen is so an amazing, talented artist!
Linda Eder was never known for her acting ability, no argument there. But strictly from a technique perspective, Eder is consistently superior, she owns this role. Why do you think so many other singers want to be favorably compared with her?
she is wonderfull! the best!
Exactly, broadway venues are big, you have to play to the back of the house. They paid money and deserve a good performance too.
****Correction*** Coleen Sexton was the Standby
She put away that thing so smooth(1:57), I didn't notice it until after a FEW viewings. Damn, I want to be THAT good. =D
Definately Coleen's best
Make that someday today. Go for it!!
Awww....I love her
i love this song so much she sings it so beautifully with so much feeling and sadness in the beginning i can really relate to this song cuz as her i want a certain great sumome to love me but i have ruined my rep like she has =(
REALLY? I think hers is probably the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. (Honestly). Just my opinion.
favlucy+favplay=AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Agreed.
My school might do this musical next year, and I want to play Lucy so bad!
3:00 - 3:10 makes me wanna cry, its so perfect!
goosebumps
Beautyful!
@LyndonSamuel1980 I think it only reads like that because we're seeing it close up through the camera, if you were there live in the theatre, those huge gestures would only read half of what they do now bringing it down to a more realistic level
I love this song, and wish I could find a link to purchase the DVD. I want to see this musical SO badly, its not even funny. *Sob*
I can't decide if Linda or coleen is the beter part for this role!!
I personally found her interpretation very interesting. Unlike Linda Eder and the other actresses I've seen play Lucy, she has an interesting mix of naivete in with the rest of her character. She doesn't seem quite as jaded as the rest, probably because of her age.
Wait wait.. this woman was Elphaba in Providence right now? I saw that last week! I had no idea this was her!
MsFESTER11: Don't judge her like that. She got the role she deserved, that was the director's choice. Not yours. the next time you want to make a comment like that, maybe you should know what you're talking about first.
Coleen has been cast as Brooke Wyndham in the new touring production of Legally Blonde: The Musical
You have to consider that they are singing, which is the main thing you're really going to see a musical for (the music) and some things just aren't possible to do AND sing at the same time-plus considering how far most ppl are from the stage when they are performing, I'm sure a lot of the smaller gestures etc you would look for in a normal theatrical production would get missed anyway-she's acting like she would in a theatre.
agreed
Shes just the most perfect Lucy!:)
Linda Eder was the best sorry and the best to play Jekyll only was on the Boston version of the Album.. Whos name is Anthony Warlow
I like them both =p so there.
@xxDancingBabyxx its on youtube. just type in Jekyll and Hyde the musical part 1
My friend is Teal Wick's cousin (she's playing Emma in the touring company), I so wish I could meet her!
@xlaginger wow! lucky...i wish i could meet her. She is my role model.
COLEEN 4 PRESIDENT HAHA
Brava!!
You're right. It's just a different style. To each his/her own. :)
YUP.
I'm not sure when.. she did in London.
