Made me cry. My dad loved Mark Knopfler's music. Was missing him something fierce this morning and looking for a lil connection? I guess. These arent bad tears. Bittersweet but not bad. The music is beautiful. Thank you.
I've been playing guitar for 27 years, listening to music with a hungry mind for near 40, this is one of the best things I've ever seen and heard on the guitar. You have an unbridled passion for the instrument and a sense and instinct for what sounds great musically and not just showing how good you are. An absolute delight to listen to!
He never disappoints! 1. Bass line. 2. Rhythm guitar. 3. Vocals. 4. And a good bit of percussion. 5. Oh yeah, and lead guitar, too. ~All from his two hands~
This is absolutely ludicrous, I sat with my jaw on the floor for the full 7 minutes, I've played guitar/bass for over 15 years and this is some of the greatest guitar playing I've ever witnessed. It's not just the technical excellence, or the insane finger picking and hammer-ons/pull-offs, but the passion in which he plays and the unique approach he takes to artistic representation of the song. Bravo Lucas, a phenomenal cover.
There were times when I actually burst out laughing, I can't really explain why, except that the talent I was witnessing was so unbelievable - so, in your words, 'ludicrous', that laughter seemed the only possible response. I can't even imagine how human hands can do that.
If you practiced 25 hours a day ,eight days a week, five weeks per month for 100 years … still wouldn’t be able to play at this Godly level!! My respects sir Lucas
Just came over from the Mark Lewis video who showed a clip from this video as a pinnacle of guitar playing and after watching this video i can agree. Just masterful control of your instrument. Truly impressive.
I've watched hundreds of guitarists with very close examination on their techniques with my eyes and ears. You have a skill level I have not seen before. You pay attention to the transitions between chords and such that the vast majority of expert guitar players do not hear. That, plus your education and practice, and your dexterity, are your strengths.
Been playing since 1993, and then I watch this and realize I haven't even scratched the surface of what guitar playing can be. This rendition is so dexterous and energetic. Mind blown.
@@lucasimbiriba Really great. The only one to held an "ALIEN PERFORMANCE", u r worthy to keep it up ^_^. Can u make such ALIEN-LIKE *Sweet Child O' MIne - GNR* Performance... Please bro... my humble request🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I have been playing for over 28 years. This was the best performance I have ever seen. I am amazed at your dexterity and stamina. I bet it hurts to play it that well. My hand burns just watching.
Well said! I’ve been playing since 93 and my forearms are on fire after watching him! I think my finger calluses just toughened up watching this! And the energy he emits! Fuck man, I wish I loved anything as much as this dude loves this song! I would bow if I were in his presence!
No words, mate! Incredible is the minimum I can say. Mr. Mark and the creators have been absolutely defeated! Typical case of the master been taken by the disciple. I just don’t get the negative likes here… sure people full of envy!
The most impressive, and I mean THEE most impressive thing about this, is how you absolutely stay rock solid on time. Most covers on TH-cam have people rushing too much because they want to get through the tune instead of enjoying the ride (or practicing to a metronome).
There are two things I love about this rendition -- and they have nothing to do with technical proficiency, the playing style or even the skill of the artist himself. The first is the passion -- the raw emotion that starts off at 10 and quickly rises to 11 and beyond as the song goes on. I've listened to several finger style versions of this song on TH-cam and while most were close to note perfect and technically sound, they also bored me to tears. In this rendition, he drops a few notes here and there, but it doesn't matter. At all. Because for seven minutes, there is nothing more important to the guitarist than this song. It shows. And it's electrifying. The second thing is that he arranged a unique and dynamic piece of music while still staying true to the original (or maybe the added fills were completely improvisational, I don't know, but my point stands either way.) To quote Simon Cowell (and I can't believe I'm actually going to quote Simon Cowell), he "made it his own." Simply stunning, sir. This is one of my new favorite videos -- and by far my favorite rendition of his song. Consider me subscribed.
@@agentsmith110111 I know, right? The passion is what separates this version from the others I've seen on TH-cam by a wide margin. Most of those renditions put me in sleep mode -- this one puts me on the edge of my seat.
"Check out Guitar Lucas... He knows ALL THE CHORDS!" Man, this is sooooo good! I listen to it at least once a day for inspiration! Master level talent!
When you can look away from your guitar while playing like this you have A+++++++++++ TALENT. I can only imagine I would be that good but I gave up then started playing again 13 years later after a severe Harley wreck. You sir are amazing!✊👍👍🎸
There's tons of videos on YT by guitarists so proud that they can play Knopfler's solos in this song. This dude does it in the middle of.a full chord melody without omitting a single note.
True dedication . I'm impressed , I'm a slow learner . Then again to follow with I sing slow. . maybe it's just me with a more detailed sense of relaxing a crowd. Your do well don't get me wrong , just bring it down between the chords . Slow it down a notch it's not Rap music my friend . Of course it's only what you want it to be . At the same time . Imagine if it's your original and how you would want someone else to play . Talk to me .
More impressive than the virtuosic playing is, to me, the complete mastery of, and adherence to, the rhythm. So many talented guitarists let the beat fall away when they get into vamping, fills, and solos. That you didn't let that happen even once elevated this performance to a master class.
Never seen a person play rhythm, lead, lead 2, and drums at the same time before. Also have never witnessed somebody so effortlessly sweep notes and chords across an acoustic guitar like that... great job sir. I'll definitely be returning to your videos
Flamenco players are usually twice as good as your regular awesome guitar player..and the techniques they use are just as difficult as they seem. That's what very healthy and solid nails sound like with proper finger technique on those sweeps.
@@elizabethmacavoy1324 Good point, and no doubt. He was playing the melody, which is sung in the original, and playing accompaniment to that at the same time. As well as the lead guitar and rhythm.
Good Lord! What an unbelievable rendition of this classic! I've been playing for over going on 40 years and still can't come close to this level of proficiency with fingerstyle. Great work, sir!
There are not enough words in my vocabulary to express my admiration for the talent and dedication that it takes to play like this. I’ve been playing guitar for over 50 years and understand that to lay this way is not just hard work, it’s a God given gift.
This is 100% THE BEST Sultans of Swing cover I’ve ever heard and seen in my life. He sounds all the syllables with perfect pitch and timing exactly like the vocals in the original recording all while not missing a single note of the guitar in the original song. This is RIDICULOUSLY IMPRESSIVE. And then, just when you think the song is about to end, all HELL breaks loose!! HOLY CRAP!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That solo section that starts at 3:20 is something else. The way you incorporate all the other elements around what is essentially a guitar solo blows my mind
A lot of the posts below talk about about this being a cover. It's not: it's an audacious arrangement that brings the original to new places and new highs... some of the chordal harmonies are crazy. Amazing stuff. I like the mix of flamenco meets chicken picking meets rock.
I struggled for years to learn how to play the lead guitar parts for this song, which I can do pretty cleanly but never all the way through without some flaw. Now I just watched you do that while simultaneously playing the vocal melody AND basslines. I'm humbled and awed.
Brother, i have been studying and practicing music for 50+ years. When i see someone playing at your level i wonder why i wasted any time pretending that i had competency. The thing that blows me away is how full your arrangement is... You present a beautiful, deep chord structure that you then begin to dance around with vestiges of the structure occasionally reminding us where we are. Meanwhile the melody begins to form around rhythmic suggestions. The natural dance of your hands tells me that you've put in your 10,000 hours. Very impressive! 🎉❤
Growing up my guitar heroes were Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, and James Burton. I learned their styles, and developed my own style. This man though......My mind is blown. Have listened to all his videos, and there's no doubt he is in the top 10% of the best. At 68 years old, I'm stoked that someone still comes around and blows mainstream players out of the water. Oh to have good fingers again!
@pelin2222 What? Sorry, your lack of punctuation threw me off. I see what you are saying now. I disagree. The difference between him and you is dedication to the art. That is not Talent. Worship more. It is sick that you are willing to accept that you are incapable because you were not born with it...absolutely disgusting copout. Just admit you are lazy and not that interested....honesty feels good.
Lifelong musician here. This is a flaming example of voicing a melodic line (among other great things). He doesn't just play his notes, he sings them. Bravo!
Finally I found a person playing that actually is playing with their soul and not just mind. So many on here that play with soulless action you don't see them feeling the music like they should. Great video!
Holy Smokes, did I really just witness that? Some of the most incredible playing I have ever seen!! I don’t think I have ever seen anyone Rock the fingers style quite like that
Aye, he is incredible. If you want another treat, check out Luca Stricagnoli... he plays 2, sometimes 3 guitars at a time fingerstyle. Pretty unique and mind blowing as well. There is some real talent out there on TH-cam. My favorite is Thriller. th-cam.com/video/zJ_pDcjICtw/w-d-xo.html

I've played Guitar for 25 years, and I've listened to excellent Guitar players for 35 years. I've never seen anyone play like this before. You attack and accent the notes when the music requires it, and you can employ subtley and add a light dusting of harmonics, when necessary. With no disrespect to the amazing Mark Knopfler - I think you have a vision for this music that takes it above and beyond the brilliant original song. You add flourishes and embellishements, without affecting the flow of the melody - a skill that I feel Mark Knopfler would admire.
Bravo, bravo, bravo. As a lame amateur I listened in rapture. By way of an old man's tale, I bumped into Mark Knopfler just off Deptford High Street just before they came famous. I was in a band also and we ducked down a side street and talked about music for half an hour. Within weeks Dire Straits had become so famous I wouldn't have got within a million miles of him. But it was an encounter I will never forget. He was a lovely and humble guy and just a natural enthusiast for playing music. God bless him for all the joy his music has brought.
That was the most incredible acoustic playing I've ever seen! And I've seen Tommy Emmanuel live front row multiple times. It was unedited and so clean. I'm blown away. I don't think there's anyone on the planet that can do a better cover of this song than that.
@@blacktiger8686 LEO? are you talking about Leo moracchioli from frog leap studios. The guy that does covers of songs but a metal version? That's the only leo I know on TH-cam
This is hands down the best cover of this song I’ve ever heard. As a guitarist I am in sheer disbelief of how immensely talented you are man, so inspiring 🤘🤘
I never comment but just wanted to say that this was unbelievable. Most finger-style guys keep beating up the guitar and over do things to an obnoxious extent, but this, this was so tasteful. Bravo.
I’ve always favored the acoustic guitar over the electric I’m almost 60 now and never have I heard a more outrageously talented player than this guy! Man what an entertainer! He does everything the singing, bass, lead, rhythm, percussions,Spanish flavor! He’s truly a one man band! In a word AWESOME!!!
Man, you might be the very best acoustic 6 string guitar player on the planet! Every time you put a new video, I can't click fast enough. This sultan of swing was just mind blowing! Peace.
He’s not just mastered the guitar. He’s mastered the feel, the emotions, the dynamics, speed and the most important of all doing justice to the songs in his own style. Simply wow. So much hard work dedication mixed with immense talent. God bless in abundance. 🎉
Mind blown. Truly incredible. In fact, next time you hear someone misuse the word ‘awesome’ in a sentence when describing something mediocre, give them the link to this video so they have some context for genuine awesomeness.
I will never understand people who say these things. Maybe guitar is not your thing? I see stuff like this and dig in. Owning a guitar for 40 years is not "playing" 40 years. There are 8,760 hours in a year. 350,400 hours in 40 years. Even if you practice an hour a day for 40 years...you still only have less than 2 years of experience. Practice more. Even 20 minutes a day you will start seeing huge progress. Not to be confused with noodling. I've owned a guitar for 30 years...I still suck...mostly because I never practice.
@@remoevans7847 If I asked you why a chicken crossed the road....and told you "to get to the other side" would you laugh? Maybe you just need a sense of humor? Or maybe...it is a tired and dumb joke. I really like the part where you say "nobody cares" like you are the spokesperson for everybody. Go play your guitar...You do not care about my opinion...no need to bring everyone into it to try validating yourself. 40 years playing? I suspect you are old enough to behave better than a teenager.
Yet another "Sultans" cover....I damn near didn't click the button. Ive been surprising and impressing other guitarists for 40+ yrs, Ive learned to celebrate all kinds of players. But damn. lol It's really hard to get just pure delight out of me these days! You brought so much happy into a sick ol man's day Thank you so much! Subscribed.
Mickey I'm the same way. I don't like any of this new music that kids call music. I'm getting to be a old man myself because I don't feel anything of the music that everyone is listening too. I stop listening to anything that's after the 90's.
Absolutely nuts. I had a couple of reactions that are very unusual for me when watching music videos - a few times I just started laughing out loud at how ridiculously good it was. Sooo good. Barn-stormingly brilliant. Thank you sir!
@Joe Biden Says: but combined who knows? You seem like a knowledgable, dare I say, intelligent person. Rather than attempt to give me a history lesson, why not respond to my comments to this outstanding piece of showmanship/musician craft. Or add your own perhaps. Plus.

During the roughly ten years since fingerstyle guitar has become very popular, I've seen so many covers of "Sultans.." - both in person and on social media sites. I also learned it myself. During all these years, I don't think I've ever seen a version quite as good as this one. Some were very good, but this is at the top shelf, for certain! It must've taken him several months-if not an entire year-to perfect this one. Indeed, it is extremely impressive, and full of feeling too; not just robotic.
Man, those dynamic peaks and valleys are so good. The moments when you get quiet are the most exciting parts; there’s just so much kinetic tension building that make the explosive parts so satisfying. And then the solo! Ahhh, the solo! Yas!
this is absolutely EPIC. my god! the fullness of the sound, the fills, the tension/release....jesus christ man! i've been playing for 25+ years and my brain can't comprehend how you are making your hands do the things they are doing here. damn dude! put this level of dedication, creativity and natural-born genius into selling cars and you've got a real future ahead of you!
This is ART, art in purest form... a man dedicating his life to craft himself and to reach the absolute perfection... this is nothing more than an art...
As far as I’m concerned, the ability to perform, create, & share/express one’s feelings through this thing called ‘’music’’ is the ONLY saving grace for human beings as a species. This gentleman is quite possibly one of the most important, otherworldly embodiments of shared emotion that the human race will ever have the right to lay claim upon. My life is infinitely improved for having come into contact with what Lucas is capable of doing. Superb!

I’ve been listening all sort of music for 40 years, been to few hundred gigs, but this?! Absolutely incredible, I hope Mark Knofler will send you an invite on the spot the day he watches this video. Bravo!
Truly a remarkable version of this song. Flamenco in Rock form. Truly different and by a Maestro guitarist. Thank you for the distinct priviledge of hearing this incredible rendition. A friend always !
Hey Lucas, You’re one of the finest improvisational finger style guitarists I’ve ever seen. You must have been born with a guitar in your hand. I’ve played for over 40 years and people say I’m pretty good, but I’m completely humbled watching you play. Your entire soul is involved in your playing, where most guitarists memorize things and copy them, you seem to instinctively know where you’re at, at every moment. You’re improvising chord positions and fingering to allow you to play lead, rhythm, and vocals in the same position. Amazing! That’s a natural born talent I envy. I’ve learned some very hard songs and can improvise on them but what you do would scare the crap out of me. It seems, your fingers know the notes, then your soul takes over. Nothing written down, just a feeling and a path. You’re incredible man. Thank you for making my Christmas night.
My god the frets on that guitar are still smoking from the way Lucas played up and down the neck of that guitar! Incredible is not enough of a description of this performance! There is good, there is great then there is this mastery of perfection! Incredible!!!
It's been a year and this is still incredibly impressive. I know that I will never be able to play at this level but I'm happy that I can listen at this level.

This is exactly what I wanted to say. He captured the vocal, the guitar rhythm and lead AND percussion grooving with some bass notes. By himself. With one acoustic guitar. SO original . Wow.

I've been listening to original live versions of this song as well as tons of covers and this one just blows me away!!! Genius!!!

Just came over from the Mark Lewis video who showed a clip from this video as a pinnacle of guitar playing and after watching this video i can agree. Just masterful control of your instrument. Truly impressive.
Welcome, Andrew!🎸
Was thinking Mark got Dave Grohl in his video. 😁
Mind blown.
Thanks; Jonathan!

Well said! I’ve been playing since 93 and my forearms are on fire after watching him! I think my finger calluses just toughened up watching this! And the energy he emits! Fuck man, I wish I loved anything as much as this dude loves this song! I would bow if I were in his presence!

He knows his guitar like he knows him, it's incredible, I fuckin' love It! 😂
The most impressive, and I mean THEE most impressive thing about this, is how you absolutely stay rock solid on time. Most covers on TH-cam have people rushing too much because they want to get through the tune instead of enjoying the ride (or practicing to a metronome).
It's all video manipulation and pitch correction. He's not even playing. jk

@@jabbingkal9494 I was just wondering what someone could say to that guy to insult him. He knows he's great.
You got it!
The only other person I have seen put this much energy into a song is Roy Clark. They both are beyond human in their skills. Well done!!!
Absolutely agreed! I think Roy Clark was fabulous and underrated.
With all due respect to Roy , he's not in this league and he'd be the first to agree with me .
The second thing is that he arranged a unique and dynamic piece of music while still staying true to the original (or maybe the added fills were completely improvisational, I don't know, but my point stands either way.) To quote Simon Cowell (and I can't believe I'm actually going to quote Simon Cowell), he "made it his own."
Simply stunning, sir. This is one of my new favorite videos -- and by far my favorite rendition of his song. Consider me subscribed.
Thanks, J! I truly appreciate your thorough analysis. Welcome to this channel🤟🏼❤
Solid comment, the passion just destroys.
@@agentsmith110111 I know, right? The passion is what separates this version from the others I've seen on TH-cam by a wide margin. Most of those renditions put me in sleep mode -- this one puts me on the edge of my seat.

@@toddbushie1657 where's your video playing this song. Put your version out there. We'll listen.

More impressive than the virtuosic playing is, to me, the complete mastery of, and adherence to, the rhythm. So many talented guitarists let the beat fall away when they get into vamping, fills, and solos. That you didn't let that happen even once elevated this performance to a master class.
Totally agree. It’s the rhythm that houses the soul of the song and this has it. He left none of it out.
My feelings exactly. What rhythm!
Never seen a person play rhythm, lead, lead 2, and drums at the same time before. Also have never witnessed somebody so effortlessly sweep notes and chords across an acoustic guitar like that... great job sir. I'll definitely be returning to your videos
I almost hear a singer in there too! This was an outstanding performance.
Amazing.
Yes it was..he got a lot out of the acoustic. More than I have ever heard. Not an ordinary feat.
Flamenco players are usually twice as good as your regular awesome guitar player..and the techniques they use are just as difficult as they seem. That's what very healthy and solid nails sound like with proper finger technique on those sweeps.
Look up Tommy Emanuel, or Luca Stricanoli, there are lots of players who are exceptional fingerpickers, or Mike Dawes, they too will blow your mind

A lot of the posts below talk about about this being a cover. It's not: it's an audacious arrangement that brings the original to new places and new highs... some of the chordal harmonies are crazy. Amazing stuff. I like the mix of flamenco meets chicken picking meets rock.
A slight rearrangement is still a cover.
@@criddlegakes2650 “Slight”???

Brother, i have been studying and practicing music for 50+ years. When i see someone playing at your level i wonder why i wasted any time pretending that i had competency. The thing that blows me away is how full your arrangement is... You present a beautiful, deep chord structure that you then begin to dance around with vestiges of the structure occasionally reminding us where we are. Meanwhile the melody begins to form around rhythmic suggestions. The natural dance of your hands tells me that you've put in your 10,000 hours. Very impressive! 🎉❤

I got shiver at my back watching him play.
How do I thank you?
I am blind and found you.
You are the first arist that I can see you play in my minds eye.
I was a promising musician prior to loosing my sight.
I appreciate and thank you for the tens of thousands of hours of practice you have given to us.❤
plenty of accomplishmed muscians who have lost their sight.
how do you comment if you are blind??

Better question, how the freak you want him to answer you? 😂

It's insane enough with the incredible guitar playing as it is. But how you manage to "translate" Mark Knopfler's singing along with it into your cover was absolutely incredible. As a keen guitar player myself, your covers are humbling. 🙌🏻🙌🏻💯
Thanks, Jake!🤟🏼❤
It seems total magic , I mean your guitar skills Lucas Imbirida ...!!
I was thinking the same Jake
This is exactly what I wanted to say. He captured the vocal, the guitar rhythm and lead AND percussion grooving with some bass notes. By himself. With one acoustic guitar. SO original . Wow.
I didn’t know that such clean precision was possible whilst also not being clinical or sterile. This has surgical accuracy and soul for days. Amazing work.
Beyond words...except to say Lucas is the most aggressive & most unrestrained guitarist on TH-cam!
Highest appreciation for this guy! 👍👍👍!!!
🎸🤘🏼❤️
Obrigado Lucas ... deixe seus dedos falarem!
Mind blown. Picking up the pieces off the floor as we speak.
100% sold his soul to the devil.
😈🎸❤
When Lucus made a deal with the Devil, nobody knew what Lucas got.
But the Devil got guitar lessons.

Haha I came looking for this comment! Absolutely brilliant guitar player
I'll go with this: best acoustic performance I've seen on TH-cam ever. Sultans of swing is one of my all time favourites and I'm always skeptical looking these. I am glad I came across this. Keep up the amazing art of playing, you are something else in the best way! 👍💪💪 Best. Version. Ever.
Thanks a lot Joaquin! I appreciate that ❤🎸
This arrangement is absolutely amazing, complex and agressive, yet fluid and nuanced. The fact that he did it on a steel string makes it even moreso, both in sound and feat. The ending really drove home the epicness of this performance. Hats off to you, sir, and thank you for sharing.
@@HendrixColtrane thanks a lot, my friend!
You also need to see Igor Presnyakov play it- wow.

This absolutely one of my all time favorite songs by Dire Straits, and I have been a long time fan of them. with that being said, I just got chills watching and listening to this expert cover.
The precision you put the accents with, as well as being able not to lose the sense of rythm while playing something high paced like this is truly BEASTIAL
I'm deeply impressed, sir
Out of watching people like Steve via, Andy McKee, don Ross, Hendrix, Eddie, dimebag, randy r, and many more my life, this is one of the most impressive things Iv watched. I rate you sir an 11/10. Bravo 👏
Thanks, Scott!
If the only thing the Internet ever gave us was this, it has served it purpose. Beyond awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
No seizure!! I'm actually impressed!
Fingerstyle like this is properly amazing, most people take too far so that the song becomes unrecognisable but, in your version, I knew exactly what song this was the whole time! Well done for not being overtly technical for the sake of being overtly technical!❤️
