Fun fact: Of the many numbers retired by the Yankees, O'Neill is only the 4th player (joining Ruth, Maris & Reggie) to start his career with a different team.
I talked to LaTroy about this at the All Star Experience last year. He laughed when I brought it up, and said if he knew about O’Neill beforehand, he would have picked a different number. I then got his autograph and he jokingly wrote 21 and crossed it out, and then he wrote his Rockies number, 32.

He IS legendary in NY. He was a cornerstone of their 90s renesaince. He was consistently good and earned the adulation of the fans. He was clutch as well. Saying he wasn't legendary is saying that you didn't see the send off he got in Game 5 of the 2001 WS.

I'm just seeing this video for the first time and it's funny that Hawkins actually wore 21 and then he wears 22 which end up being the number that Roger Clemens wore when he joined the Yankees, but that's nice that he actually wanted to honour Roberto Clemente so Yankee fans shouldn't beat up on him too much, but he did perform pretty poorly when he was in New York and he had a little bit better career in Colorado. But I think ever since he got traded from Minnesota as a top prospect, he just went downhill from there. Plus I believe he was a New Yorker as well which is kind of sad.

No. They do it right. And there are no retired numbers that aren't deserved. Also your math is off, because 15 numbers between 1-30 are still available. All Time
1 of Thee Greatest Leaders of All Time
and His 1990’s was a decade of dominance that kind of flew under the radar in the ROID POWER Era
Again:
Started & Finished 90’s with 💍 💍
5x Champion and was Key Core Player on both teams
Even if Cincinnati tried to get
Glenn Braggs muscles some AB’s
Put Paulie in NYYankees HOF❕
Should strongly be considered for
MLB HOF
I Love some Paul O’Neal 💪
Yea , Monument Park is The Ultimate for a Yankee imo
More so than the # retirement
But somehow it’s been made not to be .
I don’t think Tino Martinez should have His own plaque
But…. He definitely did some BiG Things following up Donny Baseball
It’s really too bad Mattingly retired after He finally got His 1st Playoff appearance
Where HE RAKED 💪
1 more season would have been perfect
Donny Baseball retiring a Champion
But of course , not sure that would have happened, being Tino had some of the BiGGEST AB’s that season and especially in the playoffs & WS
But I’d bet on Mattingly coming through in The Clutch
Every time 😏💪
Any time... on any channel... you hear that royalty free music that played at the start.... you bout to hear some sad shit
Now don't u Yankee fans feel stupid for booing Latrell Hawkins
Implies others are stupid... Calls LATROY Hawkins "Latrell"
@@snerdterguson yea, my Damm spell checker did that "Latrell" thing
@@Damuthafuccka lol.
Yankee fans gonna yankee
Paul was clutch and the leader of that Yankee dynasty. The fans retired his number.
With all di respect to The Great Roberto Clemente
One league wide retired number is enough.
O’Neil was a very good player but not great. Lou pinella was better
