Man Brian you have no idea how happy and sad I am to watch this video. If I just watched this clip 10 years ago. I had so many unlucky attempts to grow sequoia trees. But your let the seeds in the jar method is awesome!!!
I was just in my garage looking for a cooler to put some Rose cuttings into and I found a batch of seeds long forgotten! I found a pack of Paulownia Tormentosa seeds...I would guess to say they are from 2010! I am going to try this method so I have visual confirmation! Thanks!
@@BriansPermacultureProject I added a couple drops of Hydrogen Peroxide in the water, to disinfect and energize them. ...I will come back and let you know if there is success...they are from Whatcom Seed Company
Amazing video! I did this with paulownia tomentosa recently from two pods which would be probably about 2000 seeds and in about a week to 10 days every single one sprouted! Got a seedling that is growing well right now and even though it is October they grow well in the winter. Thank the Lord Jesus for plants they are so fascinating.
@@BriansPermacultureProject Just wanted to give an update thank you for this method it worked out very well with every single seed sprouting and growth is now insanely fast as I gave liquid fertilizer every few days!
@BriansPermacultureProject Can I ask where you got the seeds? Almost 20 years ago I bought Paulownia seeds from that same company (label looks the same) and grew several awesome trees. I've moved across the country since then and would like to try again.
Hi Brian. I think reading the book "Seeds" by Baskin and Baskin (1998). Would help you a lot with understanding some of the botanical intricacies of seeds in general. At least that's what it has done to me.
Hi there, and thank you for the reference! I read "The Triumph of Seeds", by Thor Hanson a few years back, but it was more on the popular press end of the spectrum. It sounds like Baskin and Baskin is more of a technical read? If so, I look forward to reading it!
Huh, oh really? I had decent luck with my moringa seeds germinating in plastic bags wrapped on paper towels and left in my pantry for about a week/two with no heat. The trick to keep then from molding is dipping your cloth in some camamilla tea. And thanks for the sprouting info! I've got your variety and a couple other hybrids I'd like to try and sprout here soon

Hallo again ! I have the jar outside the window in close jar container (it's not shield up, it breathing well) direct into sun ,is that wrong did you tried in direct sunlight?🤔 And if you tried what results you had ??
Hi Willow Pine, I have had them in direct sunlight after they leaf out in the jar, but I prefer to have them in cell trays by then. I don't have any experience with having the seeds in direct sunlight.
@@BriansPermacultureProject hmmm . Alright i will try it to see that way and i will update my results.. something I want to mention this days here is raining and have sun some times together sometimes separately for example Monday make sun here and Tuesday start raining then later in the day the sun came up again (weather is crazy nowadays here ) so its not clearly direct sunlight!
@@BriansPermacultureProject Well after 15 days in water and direct sun outside I don't see any of 30 seeds to do something... Actually one seed their wings start to become one and make like yours White tail but i don't know if that is good sign I'm waiting for your reply! Thanks!
Hi there, I haven't tried that, because our dry season is sooo long. During the worst drought years a few ago, we basically got ONE real storm, for a total of 5.8 inches of rain for the year. So in trying to get them established without irrigation, they would need to be able to survive for 300+ days without water. I do have some that are separate from the main group, and got a lot less water because of that. They survive with very little water, but they do not thrive at all.
@@BriansPermacultureProject i will last time i didn't make it the seeds germinate but when i plant them in the soil with heat lamp on them nothing happens maybe i was to inpatient will see this time that i have more knowledge about it !
It's not a heat lamp, just a grow light (that runs quite cool). No UV; it's just a red-blue spectrum, so the color is very strange. I'll look up the name/model when I have a chance.
@@BriansPermacultureProject thanks i will wait for an answer if you like... Im waiting seeds to come and i will try my luck with this... Is this lamp necessary? Or it would work if i have in my window.? Here we have sunny days that's why I'm asking Thanks!

It has worked for all my seed starting needs. I don't try to optimize it by getting the exact right spectrum for the exact growing stage of the plant, with timers, etc. etc., but turning it on and leaving it on has worked well enough for me.
Why do you sow these? They'll become invasive all these trees will sow themselves out. Most Paulownia growers buy plants that don't form seeds for that reason.
Thank you. I harvested a ton of seeds from a beautiful specimen I found in Oceanside,CA
I will use this method.
