You touched on a concept that I think still plagues Chinese brands. Lack of pedigree creation. There seems to be little effort to develop a sense of continuity with model lines. Compressed development times are impressive technically speaking but they fail to organically create a following or fanbase for a particular lineup if the model name changes every 10 months or there's brand inconsistency with so many collaborators. Branding of models is often an exercise of 'creating an ongoing history' of a particular line. BYD seems to be doing a better job but I really don't know if most Chinese brands understand this or care about it.
While I understand that some people may dislike it, I still think this brings a lot of value to the table, given all the specifications and even the design, which although somewhat polarizing (it's a bit large), is still very cool. I'd definitely like to see you with this model again, in future videos. I'm talking about your Seamaster ;)
While Huawei does partner with a lot of smaller automakers, some are definitely better than others. BAIC's Stelato has to be one of the worse instances of poor quality, while Seres' Aito seems to be extremely successful despite Seres arguably being a C-tier automaker. Aito's M7 and M9 were even the 9th and 17th best selling SUVs in China in 2024, in a ranking including non-premium and non-electric vehicles!
Saw a burgundy red one of these in the Huawei flagship store in Hangzhou last week and without knowing who their car manufacturer partner was l could already tell it wasn't really a premium vehicle. The exterior door handles felt particularly flimsy and had a worrying amount of vertical flex just when pulling on them to open the door. I certainly wouldn't want to pull them too hard if the car was parked overnight in freezing conditions. The trunk lid didn't align properly with the bodywork and the rest of the car looked and felt like they just threw a lot of tech at it to mask the less than premium build quality.
@@justifiedmasagony3635 The models from NIO, Zeekr, Li and my personal favourite the Hongqi E-HS9 all feel on par with anything made in Germany. I say this as a BMW driver if l had to make the switch to electric, my next car wouldn't be made in Germany.
I think the projector screen in this vehicle is supposed to solve the problem of LCD/OLED displays taking ceiling space away from the panoramic sunroofs, which I think it does successfully. However, while the rear half sunroof is good, the front half is awkwardly placed too far back for the front row to enjoy, and the projector screen's storage hump blocks most of the view for rear passengers too. They should get rid of that front sunroof entirely and use the ceiling space for a screen instead. I wonder if this model will last long enough to receive an update, as the sales are terrible.
I think electric car manufacturers in China should consider having you as there ambassador... just to avoid some costly and persistent mistakes, I agree with the project system should simply be a OLED/Mini LED display..
I was seriously considering buying this but after this very objective review I'm reconsidering. It might not be great on the not so perfect roads I've got in my country. 😊
I honestly don’t recommend S9 at all, it’s like a beta product if you really want E class competitors like Denza Z9,Z9GT or Nio et7 are good options because at least they don’t…suck
I know it's because Huawei wants to keep the same design between their joint ventures, but it's still extremely unusual to me that different brands from different manufacturers look the same. Reminds me of when Chrysler put the pentastar and same design language onto three different brands with Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth back in the day. Edit: Also had that same exact thought at the end, Xiaomi doesn't work with a million different budget automakers and their first car was a smash hit, so why can't Huawei do the same?
Chinese automakers seem to have a peculiar talent in giving weird, awkward names to their brands and cars (Zeekr, anyone?). Stelato looks just as a misspelled Italian word, and reminiscent of Stellantis group name too
why don't they include french or english in their infotainment screen and gauge cluster even if it's for chinese market? they sell smartphones all over the world in multiple languages
I like the idea of this car, but it does not seem to compare well to the big German three. All features and technology inside may be great, but one very important feature is missing: brand image. The interior design is a bit plain, a Mercedes-Benz has presence. And about space inside: my Hyundai Ioniq 5 seems to have just as much space in the back. The wheel base is the same, and the trunk is at least 100 liters bigger. And I have the same lay-down seats, although my Ioniq 5 has this on the front seats. I am not in the market for this class of car, but I cannot see why this would be a better option than a Mercedes or BMW.
Disappointing design quirks for an expensive car. No reason to buy it instead of Luxeed S7. I wonder if Huawei would make their own luxury cars in the future. Xiaomi is making their own?
When I was in China I went to a car mall with some Chinese friends and colleagues and was surprised they all said they’d never buy a car by Huawei as it’s too close to the CCP… they wouldn’t even sit in it lol. kind of ironic since everything else in their life is also, but thought it was interesting that’s where they draw the line. Must know something I don’t.
