I saw it decades ago in New York. Costumes are lovely, dancers excellent. So caught up in the story, I find I must watch again for the technical brilliance.
This ballet is really growing on me. I find it very enjoyable. 3rd time around.. Entertaining. It has atmosphere, I find myself becoming immersed in it. That to me is a sign of a good production. The actors and dancers are wonderful. Costumes and props. Criticism is a cheap comodity. Creativity is rare. It is a lovely ballet. Thank you. ☺👍❤

The essence of Coppelia is really contained in Hoffmann's Erzaehlung, Act 1. Delibes emphasizes the romance too much. The performance here is outstanding, however.

Who is the girl playing the role of Coppélia?
Charline Giesendanner; she's still in the ballet company; can't find when she joined it after the school but probably the same year as Ganio in 2001 or one or 2 years later. She has the rank of Sujet which is two ranks under Etoile (Etoile, Premier Danseur, Sujet, Choryphée, Quadrilles in descending order). She must be around 30 ans could if the direction of the Dance and the General manager decide so be promoted later to Etoile after having passed the grade of Premier danseur. Each year the ballet dancers have to pass a competition before a jury to get promoted, but for the étoiles which only a decision of the management and requires that a position be available as the number of them is limited. Recently new Etoiles were nominated due to the retirement of elders; the age of retirement in the company is 40-42 at the latest and mandatory.
C.Giezendanner, encore élève était déjà très professionnelle ; n'a jamais été dans les petits papiers des directrices successives pour être nommée - au moins - soliste - première danseuse tandis que d'autres, de moindre qualité, sont aujourd'hui à ce poste depuis longtemps...

Coppélia is the doll's name! If you're referring to Frantz, he's danced by Mathieu Ganio - who's happily married to a man I'm afraid ;)
